Hello Luis E. Arana,
This is Efrain Hernandez-Arana. My Arana ancestors were from Puerto Rico and I do have some information on them. Can you tell me more about your father, and his parents? Do you know his birth year and the year he died? In what city or town did he die? You can write to me in Spanish or English, to eh37@juno.com
Arana is the spanish name for spider. It is a name that comes from the Basque area of Spain. My grandfather William Anselmo Arana was born in Doyle Colony, Santa Cruz, California. His forebearers are supposed to have come from Spain in to Mexico and then up to the Santa Cruz, California area. At the time of his family arriving in the Santa Cruz area the town of Santa Cruz was named Branciforte.

A message to Lizeth89

I received today your 4 messages asking for information about Arana families in Guatemala. I do not have knowledges or data about the Arana families in Guatemala. In the 1980's the President of Guatemala was Arana. In 2002 and 2003 three persons Arana wrote messages on this ARANA page asking for information about the Arana families in Guatemala. I do not know if they are still using the same e-mail addresses. They were: Hadid Arana, andreandme@msn.com; Teresa Arana, xxshorty2203xx@aol.com; and Veronica Perez-Arana, veroarana@lycos.com I hope someone could give you more information. Sincerely, Efrain Hernandez Arana

NOGALES, Amanda A., 96, died peacefully in her sleep Friday, October 13, 2006. She was born June 4, 1910, in La Luz, New Mexico, to Cristobal and Delisia Arana, one of eight children. She married Gregory Nogales in 1926 and moved to Douglas, AZ. She raised five children, Ernest (Phyllis), Stella Fortier, Molly (Joseph) Rodriguez, Robert (Margie) and the late Gregory (Carol). A well-known chef in the area, she had her own restaurant and headed the kitchen staff at the Gadsden Hotel before moving to Tucson in 1979. Amanda was called Mom by many young people who needed a helping hand. It was not unusual to find a new face at the kitchen table or asleep on the living room couch. Her door and heart were always open. She was a remarkable woman of great strength and faith. In addition to her children, she is survived by 16 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, grandson, Joseph II and son-in-law, Robert Fortier. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 19, 2006 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. Burial will follow at Our Lady of the Desert. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity.
Published in the Tucson on 10/17/2006.

Marcos, Marcos, and Allende. I have to search on my records, but let me tell you how the Arana's families came in to live in Hatillo. From my mother's ancestors, the first Arana who came to Puerto Rico in 1795 was Juan Gabriel De Arana Mayrene. He came from Cadiz(Andalucia),the son of Benito de Arana(originally from the Vasque country(nothern Spain) and Ines de Mayrene.Benito had merchant boats and by those days noene could go out with the Mercantile Boats of not laving from Cadiz, up to those days controlled and escorted by the armed Galeons. By the time Juan Gabriel left Cadiz, the Spanish goverment had not too much power and practically not pretecting the merchant boats as before. That was the opportunity for people like Juan Gabriel to leave the country. It was told with him was another boat with his brother as a captain, and that brother decided to stay in Venezuela. Those are the Arana descendants now in South America. Juan Gabriel continued to Aguadilla,Puerto Rico,as a captain of his own boat. It was not easy going from Spain to the Americas. Juan Gabril married Maria de los Dolores Ferrer Sotomayor in Aguadilla, and had three sons and two daughters. From Aguadilla the moved to Camuy( later that area was organized as Hatillo). In Hatillo Juan Gabriel was one of the orginers of that Municipality. I have his speech the day Hatillo was officially declared a municipality. His sons were Juan Cornelio Arana Ferrer, Antonio Severo Arana Ferrer, Francisco Arana Ferrer, and two daughter,Maria del Carmen and Juliana Martin Arana Ferrer. I am from the line of Juan Cornelio Arana Ferrer and also from the line of Antonio Severo Arana Ferrer.. Your Uncle Marcos, probably is from the line of Antonio Severo Arana Ferrer. I will continue telling you more about these ancestors in the near future.

Luis, I was trying to type fast and you can see veveral errors. Next time I will do a better job. Three children of Antonio Severo Arana Ferrer were Antonio Evangelista Arana Marquez(one of my mother's grandfathers), Domingo Arana Marquez( many of the Arana in Hatillo are from the line of Domingo), and Maria Saturnina Arana Marquez(one of my mother's grandmothers).
Hello Juan Carlos,
It is a nice thing happening to us, that we can demonstrate interest in knowing each other, the Arana's descendents.
Yes, your father was my first cousin.
Yes Eduardo, but later I posted a new message: " Correction to my previous message" indicating my message was to you,Eduardo Arana Jr.
I plan to meet you on February 17 at the Edison's Parade in Fort Myers. I found a picture that in 1923 your grandfather Juan Carlos sent to my mother, his sister, with a message: :Santurce,P.R. 9/09/23, To Carmen Arana de Hernandez, Lares, P.R., Te envio este retratito como prueba del cariño que te profesa, tu hermano que no te olvida, Yeye." He was about 20 and my mother was 27 years old. Gabriel was not my aunt Rosa's son, she took care of him since Gabriel Arana Arana her brother who was my uncle died. When aunt Rosa died in 1980 old the family pictures and Felipe Arana Silen's Diary passed to the hands of Uncle Felipe and Aunt Socorro Arana. Two months before uncle Felipe died in 1998 I called him and we talked for about 35 minutes. His mind was very alert and he was happy I called him. He told me that during the last five years relatives had visited him at his Roosevelt's home and had taken all the family pictures.
Thanks for your message,we will continue talking soon.
Efrain
