my name is edwin arce jr the son of the senior one. my family is from aguadilla and aricebo. my grandfather's name is fernando...i believe his last name was ferrer because he hated his dad so much he changed his name. well the tradition went on and my father was not to fond of the old man we call papito. so he changed his name to arce. thank god, arce is so much better. anyway this is the lowdown. im in the united states marine corps and i have found that there are more than just one, but 12. some are from p.r and some are from peru. one is from bolivia. another from argentina. i am originally from queens ny and god i hope this goes through. there is a town in spain, where our name originates from, that is named arce. my sister also found a keychain when she went to europe that said the arce name came from an archduke that controlled a small regiment of spaniard soldiers. in commemoration they name the town after him. i dont know when the arce name left spain but it did go to puerto rico first when the spaniards took over the island from the taino indians. from then it reached into other countries. its just recently that i started to realize how wonderful our name is and how special we are. i hope that any of this info. can help with any of your research and i would apprieciate if anyone could send me any information.
