I have a Shambeau family in my line that has me totally floored & I am attempting to find some information. Here is what I know:

My gggrandmother was Lucie/Lucy Shambeau/Shambo born in VT on 4/19/1844. In the 1860 census she was living in Williston, VT & working as a servant. Also living in Williston at that time were two other Shambeau/Shambo women that, I suspect, were Lucie/Lucy's sisters - Maria(h) Shambeau/Shambo born about May 1842 in VT and Mary born in 1843 in VT.

Lucie/Lucy's family name may have originally been Archambault. Her parents, according to a census, were born in Canada & I suspect Quebec, perhaps a small town
along the Quebec/Vermont border. I also believe that Lucy had a brother named Hiram Shambeau who was born about 1840 and died in Virginia in 1861 during the Civil War in the US.

Lucy married John Scott Miller, born 1/27/1838 in Alburg, Grande Isle County, VT and they were married in Altona, Clinton County, NY on 9/5/1864.

Lucie/Lucy & John Scott Miller lived in Clinto County, NY until about 1875 when the family moved to Wilson, Kansas.
Lucie/Lucy died in Wilson, Kansas on 9/9/1879. After her death, John moved the family back east. He eventually remarried and died in Franklin County, NY.

Hiram Shambeau, whom I believe was Lucie/Lucy's brother. married Victoria Miller who was the sister of John Scott Miller & they were married about 1861 & he died in Virginia of typhoid fever. They had no children.

I am interested in the parents of Lucie/Lucy and here is what I have researched:

LDS Microfilm of Williston, VT - Vital records - nothing

Clinton County, NY marriages - nothing

Altona, NY Town Clerk - nothing

Williston, VT Town Clerk - nothing

State of VT in Montpelier, VT - nothing

Kansas vital records - nothing

NYS Vital records - nothing

I do have the pension papers from the Civil War for Hiram that give me no clue as to whom his parents were, however, they do say that he was born in "Lower Canada" which I do believe is Quebec.

I have the pension papers from the Civil War for Robert Scott Miller which give me no information on Lucy.

Copy of the last will & testament of Robert Scott Miller - no mention of Lucy.

Death Certificate from the State of VT on Maria(h) Shambeau listing parents & next of kin as "unknown".

Altona, NY Catholic Church - nothing (I do not know if they were even Catholic.)

I know someone on ancestry.com has my Lucie/Lucy and John Scott Miller and they have Lucie/Lucy as living in Massachusetts & I know that his information is not accurate and have e-mailed him informing him of this.

Can you possibly help me with this puzzle? I suspect both Lucie/Lucy's parents were from Quebec and came across the border to live in Vermont. I have contacted the State of VT for any Shambeau deaths from 1844 (after Lucie/Lucy was born) until about 1880 and the only thing that I can could come up with was Maria(h) Shambeau's death certificate.
I have no earthly idea of whom Mary Shambeau/Shambo may have married.

Thank you for any help or ideas you can give me.

Carolyn Myers e-mail: tmyers@tds.net
St. Marys, Georgia
USA

Tom,

I, too, am looking the Shambo/Shambeau family of St. Albans, VT. I believe my gggrandmother, Lucy Shambo/Shambeau belongs in this family that you found in the 1860 St. Albans, VT census. My Lucy married John Scott
Miller of Alburgh, VT and died in her early 30's in
in Kansas. Lucy was born 4/19/1844.

I do not believe that the family went to Fall River, MA like someone has on ancestry.com. That person is not correct. But, as to where they did go, I have no idea.
That person has a lot of first names that are not accurate.
My aunt, Leona Hale, of Spokane, WA may have contacted
you previously as she has been looking for our Lucy also.
Short of going up to St. Albans, VT (I live in Georgia)
I don't know what to do to find them. Also, they did not
come from Germany as someone posted...they came to VT
from Quebec.

Hello, Andre,

If you are still willing to help, I do have a request.

I am trying to trace my Archambault ancestors back to Europe. I have gone as far back as Antoine Archambault who was born around 1816. According to the 1851 Canada census he was born in Canada and at the time was living in Dunham, Missisquoi, Quebec. His wife was named Atilo/Atila(?), but may have also been known as Nettie. They had at least 5 children: Rosila, Louis, Antoine/Antoni(?), Peire (?) and Joseph(?). It looks like he may have had an unmarried sister, Louisa, living with him. The 1881 census lists his last name as Archambeau.

Do you happen to have any information on them in your database? Any clues you could lend me would be very much appreciated!
