Thank you so much for the info. on this interesting family .The Archers are a difficult family to sort out as the early families all had large families and many with continuing christian names. Many had a lot of influence in early Australian History and were pioneers in Tasmania,Rockhampton, and northern NSW I am searching to find a common link[if there is one] between these groups of Archers

Whether this helps or not I don't know, but Eidsvold amd Gracemere in Quennsland were founded by the Archer brothers, Charles, Thomas, William and Colin, who came from Larvik in Norway. They were the sons of William and Julia Archer, who originally came from Scotland.
Colin Archer returned to Norway and later became famous for designing and building the polar ship "Fram", which was used by Fridjof Nansen for his North Pole expidition and by Roald Amundsen for his journey to the South Pole. Charles also returned to Norway and died there in 1861.
I believe Thomas eventually settled back in Scotland and one of his sons became a well-known playwrite and critic in London. The only reference to NSW, I can find, is that their mother, Julia, apparently sent all her sons to uncle James Walker to teach them to be self sufficient. He had a large farm inland from Sydney. This information is largely from the book "Båtbyggeren Colin Archer" ("The Boatbuilder Colin Archer") by Tor Borch Sannes.

I was looking more closely at your info and "everything fits" if we look at the records of Etta Pearl with parents Joseph and Elizabeth. Pearl would have been 2 when her father died and she would have been "five" when she became an orphan after her mother also died. And she had a sister who was 2 years younger than her (age three) when they were orphaned. and because pearl lived with grandparents the two girls were able to stay in touch-but What happened to the brother Percy? is it possible that he died too? I have never heard about a brother? Or perhaps when the father died he was shipped off to live with a male relative (an uncle or something)-Pearl at age 2 would not even remember him. It all fits. Thank-you from the bottom of my heart for the long, long awaited leads.

My grandma was Pearl Archer and she married my grandpa Charles Gelley and they did live in Winnipeg at that time(1912) but... my grandma pearl was an orphan with one sister. I do not know the name of her sister, but apparently as adults they used to visit all the time so they must have lived near each other in Winnipeg. According to my Mom,(Pearls daughter) pearl (grandma) was moved from pillar to post as a child and was more like a servant than part of any family so that does not sound like someone who lived with her grandparents?Seems as if Grandma Pearl never felt loved. Pearl was five when she became an orphan, and her sister who was age three was lovingly adopted by a childless couple.Apparently at age 5 grandma was no longer considered cute. I always got the impression that Pearl lived with "relatives" after she was orphaned but I can't imagine grandparents making their own grandchild feel so unloved? If you have any more info please let me know since I have hit nothing but dead ends. I think we have the same Pearl ARcher though -thank-you so much for the leads. any more info would be so deeply appreciated.

I found a photo of woman, guessing the age 30. On the back was written Miss Mary C AArcher M.D. massacred 1898. I found an article that mentions her murder in Sierra Leone in 1898. I believe she was a member of a Methodist Church effort in Sierra Leone. I cannot look up the census record, because I have no idea her age or place of birth. I wrote the Standard Times Press News Sierra Leone and the Methodist college, but have not recieved any response. I want to return the photo to the family. If some one has information or is a family member, please let me know.

Mel Dove

Here is what I have found on this family:

Thomas Archer, b. 1847 in Alabama, married Emily Elizabeth (Sometimes referred to as Lenora) Ammerine, who was born June 1849 in Alabama. Thomas had several brothers and sisters: John C. Archer, Willis H. Archer, Salina Archer, Benjamin Archer, Mary Archer,Elizabeth Archer, Epsey Archer, and Phillip M. Archer. According to the 1850 census, Thomas was the child of Phillip Archer and a woman named "Winnie". I don't know if Winnie was her real name, but that his how she was listed in the census. As for Thomas and Emily Ammerine Archer, they had several children: Phillip Archer, Benjamin Archer, Pat Adolphus Archer, Thomas B. Archer, Thorn D. Archer, Moses Rhea Archer, Emily J. Archer, and Victoria Archer. Moses Rhea Archer married a woman named Rhoda Frances Rhodes. They also had several children--Leonard, Marshall, Jewell, Beulah, Ruth, Paul, Thelma, Hazel, Lois, and Selma. My husband's grandfather was Leonard M. Archer.

I have an Adolphus Archer b. May 26, 1878, married to a Martha V. that I have come across in my research. They had a son named Jerome, who was born in 1896 in Heber Springs Arkansas. Adolphus was a brother to Moses Rhea Archer, who was my husband's great grandfather. I have just recently started researching this line, but so far have found many hits in the census records. I have Adolphus listed as the son of Thomas Archer, and Emily Elizabeth Ammerine. This family lived in Alabama, and Thomas' father's name was Phillip Archer, who was a baptist preacher. In the census records, Phillip is listed in 1850 as having a wife named "Winnie". Let me know if you want any further information, and I will be happy to share.

Re: Isaac Archer b. abt 1800

I have a Isaac Cornelious (cornelius) in my tree. He was born abt.1818 in Tenn. and Married Margaret F. Williams on 29th of May 1838 in Lawrence county Alabama. They are living in Lawrence co. in 1850 and have 4 children at that time. Her mother is living with them Sarah Williams and I believe a nephew, Francis Vandover. Sarah died in 1858 and John and Caroline are living with someone else in the next census, however I have what I believe is a photo of Isaac as a very old man. My Grandfather says he remembers him, which is consistent with he story that he lived to be close or over 100. I cannot find census records yet to confirm this. If there are any questions reply here or through ancsetry.com

Eric,
I don't have any particular info to add to yours and I'm not really related to you other than way back. Harriet Reeks was the daughter of George Reeks. George had a sister named Frances Reeks who married John Mills and I'm decended from that line Do you need info on the Reeks family? I didn't realize that Abraham remarried after Harriet died of an "accidental suffication. I found the family after Abraham died with an Ann and assumed she might have been his sister. Anyway, contact me if you need any info on the Reeks as I've got a good deal of it.
Linda Honeycutt
Taylorsville, NC
