I am looking for any information on a William Archie who died in Sumner Co. TN in Oct of 1895 as a result of gunshot wounds. A transcript of the trial lists his wife only as Mrs. Archie and a son named Will (short for William?). I don,t know her first name or William Archie's (the one murdered) age. The son Will was about 15. Any info on these people or anyone related would be appreciated. I know there are a lot of people who are researching the Archie family. Maybe we can share information. Thank you.

I'm very interested in your great grandfather Walter. My husband's great grandfather was named James Ellis Archie. Family stories say he had a brother named Hardy and another named Grady who came from middle TN to the Reelfoot area of TN. I found where Walter and Vera are buried in the same cemetery as Hardy's first wife, Roxie. I think there may be a connection, but have been unable to find any proof. Any ideas on Walter's parents names, siblings or any other info that might help me out?

Convictions on Information Instead of Indictment, Is Plea

The five negroes who robbed and murdered W.H. Archie on March 9, 1911,
were sentenced Monday morning by Judge W.R. Taylor of the
district court to be hung.

John Henry Prather, who fired the shot, had pleaded guilty,
while Bob Johnson, Elijah Turner, Charley Posey and James Holmes,
his accomplices, had all been tried and convicted by district
court juries. June 21 was set as the date for the hearing.

I hope you are still looking for Archie's. I am and I keep finding more of them. Just can't make any solid connections between them. I am concentrating on William Archie who married Eveline Roark (believe it should be Emeline) May 13, 1854 in Sumner Co. TN. Hardy Archie's name apears on their marriage record. Is William Archie a brother, cousin to Hardy? Anything you know about this William Archie would be helpful. My e-mail is jone936@bellsouth.net.

The 1900 Sumner Co. TN Census lists Hardy Archie, age 70, his wife Melissa, and 4 grandsons living with them. The grandsons are Hardy J., Walter C., Noah and Roy (they must be twins). If family stories are correct, Noah Archie was a cousin of my g-grandmother Mattie Archie Jarrett. Another connection is that a Hardy Archie witnessed the marriage certificate of William Archie and Eveline (Emeline) Roark in Sumner Co. TN in 1854. I am specifically looking for the parents of Mattie Archie at the moment. Any help would be appreciated. I will share whatever I have on these folks. Thanks.

This lady is my g-grandmother. She was born about 1875 in TN according to her death certificate. It also says her father is Will Archie born in TN and her mother is unknown. She married William Jarrett in Sumner Co. TN in 1890. I can track her family after her marriage. Before her marriage I can't find anything definite about her. Other names mentioned are Nellie (also indexed as Mamie) Archie and Sarah Archie. Her sisters? The Archie family is found in Macon Co., Trousdale Co., Sumner Co., Davidson Co. If anyone has any information on this lady or knows who her parents are, etc., please contact me. Maybe we can help each other. Thanks.

I have found archies, archeys, archys, and archers in Davidson, Sumner, Trousdale, Wilson, Macon counties. At the moment I am trying to determine the parents of Mattie Archie who was my g-grandmother. Her death certificate says her father was Willie Archie and her mother Miss Roark, both born in TN. William Archie and Eveline Roark were married in Sumner Co TN in 1854. A Hardy Archie was a witness. Brothers, cousins? Maybe we can help each other. I am hitting a lot of dead ends.

Does anyone know anything about the William Archie who lived in Sumner Co TN in the late 1880's up to 1895, about 2 miles south of Hendersonville, maybe near Mansker's Creek? He was shot in Oct 1895 by a W. J. Bell and died a week later. The trial for W. J. Bell was held in Gallatin in Oct of 1896. Archie had a son named Will who was there when his father was shot. Trial transcript lists the dec'd Will Archie's wife as Mrs. Archie. What was her first name? Any help appreciated on this incident or anything about this branch of the Archie family. Thanks.

I believe there must be a connection to your Archie's and mine. William Archie was born in TN about 1822, married Emeline Roarke in Sumner Co in 1854 in Gallatin. Could John Archie be William's brother? I have seen the names your mentioned but I could not connect them to William Archie. I have traced the Archie family in Sumner, Trousdale, Wilson and Davidson Co. Do you know if William Archie is buried in Obion Co,?The 1910 cenus shows Emeline being widowed and living with her daughter Sarah Archie Denton in Obion Co. Mattie Archie was either half or full Cherokee? Do you know anything about the Cherokee roots? Thanks for your response. I look forward to hearing from you again.

I can't provide much info on william archie. I am still trying to confirm if I am reseaching the correct one. However, my William Archie married Emeline Roark in Sumner Co TN in 1854. I am trying to document the Cherokee heritage that comes either thru the Archie or Roark family or both. Mattie Archie was the daughter of William and Emeline. Keep looking. There are a lot of Archie's out there. If I can find anything concrete on either of my names I will put it on the boards in hope that I can make further connections. Thanks for your reply.

Sounds like we are from the same neighborhood. We were slaves of the Archers from Huntsville. My family settled outside of Huntsville. Changed surname from Archer to Archie by the early 1900's. Good listing in the 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920, & 1930 census. Keep up the research.

My father was born in Atlanta in 1914 and the family moved back to Nashville in the 1920s. His father was William N. Archie born in Nashville in 1880. He married Ada Davis and I think had two sisters. Do you know of any connections.

By any chance is your Archie related to a John Park Archie who was married to Roxie Ann Sullivan? They had a daughter named Alice Ruth. I'm sure theirs more siblings but i just started working on this side of the family which is my brother in laws side. Seeking full name of the husband of Alice (Amey) Archie Haynes. Alice and her first husband had three children by 1916 and lived in Dorchester, MA. One of the children was a daughter named Barbara who was mentioned in a newspaper article in 1914. I have been unable to find this family in the 1920 or 1930 census. My grandfather is Walter Cleo Archie, His fathers name was Walter C Archie, mothers name was Molly Vera Jackson-Archie. He had 5 brothers named Bill, Elvie "keat", Mark, and Raliegh. This lady was my g-grandmother. According to her death certificate, she was born around 1875 in TN,not sure in which co. She married Will Jarrett and had many children. They lived in several counties in TN. Wilson, Sumner, Davidson and probably more. She died in1934 in Davidson Co. and is buried in Donelson. Her death certificate lists her father as Will Archie. I believe her mother was Emeline Roark (this name is spelled several ways). If you can provide any information on these people, please contact me. Thanks.

Ggrandmother was an Archer. But, I have heard the name Archie. They were from east Texas. Can't prove just hear-say.
Her name was Katherine (Cassie) and married a Tyler, then married a Farmer. Like to know anything. Have ran into a brick wall. Thanks.

He was a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church and was a deacon and a Mason. He retired from the City of Austin in 1983.

Your grandmother was my greatgrandmother Nellie Bea Witham's sister. I too am searching for info on Mary Francis Archie (my ggrandma) I have her and Joshua's children listed as Nellie Bea, George Wesley, Johnny Bob, Fred, William, Lela and Lula (twins), Frank, Wendell Howard, Marlin and an unnamed infant that died at birth. Nellie was married to Luke Smith and died in childbirth with Nellie. I have some more info on the children and am having roadblocks with Mary Francis and Joshua.
