Thanks Aidan,

I live in Canada but have a couple of very distantly related Dale relatives in County Derry--a couple of unmarried ladies. Their mother was an Ardell born in Clare but descended from Richard Ardell of Tipperary. My interest is really in trying to help these ladies with their family tree and I hit a choke point with Richard Ardell.

Peter Robinson's wife is Iris Collins but I have no idea whether or not she is descended from the Clare Ardells. Maybe I will email him and ask.

Ron Dale

Ron

Hi Ron
No - just browsing the name out of idle curiosity. My mothers parents were teachers in that primary school and the Ardells were the only CofI family who attended. She has said a number of times that Peter Robinson's (present 1st minister of the Northern Ireland Assembly) mother was one of that family. I was trying to find out if that was indeed the case - by Google search. Unfortunately I wasn't able to confirm that. Do you have any idea?
regards
Aidan

I am tracing Richard Ardell, born in Tipperary. He moved to County Clare ca 1850 where his son Lancelot was born. Lancelot had two daughters who moved to Philadephia: Elizabeth and Louise Ardell. Elizabeth married Alexander Dale of Caraloon, County Derry after 1920 and they moved back to Derry where they stayed.

I would like to hear from any Ardells who have done some research on their Irish roots or who knows of other members of this family.
