Here's what I believe to be facts from a family that preferred to remain fuzzy w/ details....
My grandfather was named Bartolo Arena. He emigrated from a town called Caropepe (or something like that) Apparently, the town is now known as Valguenera (or something like that) with his father Pietro in the early part of the 1900's ( maybe 1905 ish). Pietro was married to a woman named Ida. Bartolo married Lucia Di Noto ( or Di Note... My dad couldn't remember his mom's maiden name for sure) Lucia's parents would have been Carlo and Maria (also Sicilian but not sure what town... my grandparents met in America) Bartolo and Lucia had 7 children: American names: Pete, Charlie, Ida, Mary, Sandy, Vincent (Jim) and Joe... My grandfather and the "boys" worked "pick and shovel" per my father. settled in Rochester in the area of the Public Market
