I've learned a few things about the Arencibia name since my last post.

It'a Basque, and we are problably distant relatives. Here is some information you might find interesting, but it's in spanish, though you can translated it with google translate if you don't understand spanish.

http://temascanarios.blogspot.com/2010/11/origenes-del-apell...

Here is a Arencibia group on facebook.... http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=8813926657

Hi I also have a Arencibia in my family tree. My great great grandmother name was Felina Cabeza Arencibia she was born in Pinar del rio, Cuba. Her parents were Pastor Cabeza and Rosario Arencibia. Maybe we are related to each other? Do you know where in the Canary islands did they live in?

If you wish to speak to me through email my email is: garciagabriel445@gmail.com

Isidro Arencibia, son of Bartolome Arencibia, Gran Canaria

I am looking for information on the Arencibia family for my daughter-in-law.

Her 2nd great grandfather was Isidro Arencibia born in Valleseco, Gran Canaria; date of birth is unknown but I estimate at about 1870. He was the son of Bartolome Arencibia and Francisca Guerra, both of Gran Canaria. I believe he had a brother named Victorio.

Isidro emigrated to Cuba and married Ramona Val (daughter of Jose Val and Maria Beltran). Ramona died of tuberculosis before 1934. Their children were: Francisca (m. Ramon Diaz), Julio, Maria (1909-1996), Ramona (1914-2000, m. Manuel Borell), Manuel, Emilio (died about age 35), Bartolome (died very young), and another daughter, name unknown who also died young. Of the children, Francisca, Julio, Maria, Ramona, and Manuel are known to have emigrated to New York in the 1950s-1960s.

If anyone has any information about this family, I would appreciate your help.

Denise

Arencibia

Just wanted to add that the Arencibia surname is not Spanish, but Basque. I found out a few years ago, while researching on the internet.

My father lived in Spain and was surprised that he was not able to find our Coat of Arms, but the reason was that it's not Spanish.

The Arencibia's came from the same house. We are all related. Seems that many left the Basque Country and lived in the Canary Islands and from there migrated to Cuba and other parts of America.

I'm not sure. My grandmother (Mercedes) was one of 5 sisters named Arencibia from Cardenas. Her sister's names were Caridad, Maria M.(94 years old), Juana and Ursulina (89 years old). You need to see if your friend's grandmother is in some way related to one of these women. I will forward this info to my cousin in Santa Rosa and see if he recognizes the name. He took our family tree back to the 1700's. (He's a retired school teacher with time on his hand.) He visits Cuba every year.
