My grandmother, Ferne A., was born 3/26/1895 in Missouri. Her maiden name was Dovel; her mother's maiden name was Argo. She was raised by relatives. She married William Fuller, had two sons, Jesse and Virgil. They were living in Kansas in 1915. She left her husband, moved to Illinois, married Charles Knize, and had two children, Robert and Lois (my mother). That much of her past I am sure of. The rest is iffy: I’m guessing that she was adopted at age 5 by George and Mary Sapp, who listed her father's birthplace as Virginia and mother's birthplace as Illinois. I guess Mary could have been her mother, and George her adopted dad.
At age 15 it seems that Ferne was living with Jessie and Lalasha (sp?) Gibson, who listed her as their niece. They listed her mother as having been born in Indiana, which is likely an error.
