I'll have to dig out the pension record. For some reason I had only the death date in my genealogy program.

If you interested I have Joseph Arie's (samuels dad) ancestry back a couple of generations.

The name Arie is a mutation of the original spelling "Ihrich"

If you email me at cralbrec@hotmail.com I can give you details.

Hi Baxter,

Did you try pulling his pension records. He did file for a pension on Oct. 23, 1889. So he was still alive at that point. I don't know why he doesn't appear in the census records after 1860 but it does happen.

Mike O.

Mike, I know that Samuel died sometime before 1889. Can you tell me do you find him back home in either the 1870 or 1880 census'? Check out the site I have set up for him on Find A Grave. I'd love to know more about him. Write me at my email address or through Find A Grave. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Hi Rhonda,

It has been quite a while since we talked but I thought I should let you know about two new books that have come out on the Westfall Cemetery. I am very pleased to say that they are mine. A little over a year ago I sent samples of the books to Heritage Publications and they offered to publish them. The first book is on the Westfall Cemetery Layout according to the actual cemetery records and the second book contains all of the obituaries (383) that I could find. In the place of missing obiturires I put in census records, civil war records, birth, marriage and death records and anything else I could find. The Galesburg Library now has both of them in their library. They are also on Amazon.com and the Heritage Publications web sites. I hope you are able to check them out and that they help anyone doing research on the Westfall's and all their related lines.

Michael Osler

Hello, I can help. Your grandfather Arthur W Arie is the son of Milton Jessie and Denice (Fulton) Arie. Milton Jessie Arie is the youngest Brother of William Arie and also the son of Joseph and Nancy Humphreys Arie. I am descended from William and Miltons Brother, Thomas W. Arie. I have this family line all the way back to Germany. Arie is a mutation of the original Spelling of Ihrich.

Hi Ronda -

I don't think we have spoken before. I am a G.G.G. Grandson of Alexander Westfall. I have been working on the line for quite a while.

In regard to your questions about Joseph Arie. He is buried in the Westfall Cemetery and so is his son William. William's wife Valera is buried there too. I have William's obit. and I know who all of Joseph's children are. The only think I don't know is how Joseph is related to George W. Arie. Other Arie relatives buried in the Cemetery are George W and his wife Ida Bell Myrick, George Ervin and his wife Rachel F. Mitchell and Mrs. Raymond (Nellie Arie) Pine.

I have Nellie's and Raymond Pine's obits as well.

My line is Alexander, George, Frank, Harry, Lois Westfall Osler and then me.

Mike Osler

Hi Rhonda -

Thank you for correcting me concerning Joseph. According to the Knox Co. Gene. Society's record, Joseph was buried in the Westfall Cemetery but now I can see that he wasn't. That explains why he isn't in the plot records either.

It makes sense that the line went Joseph, William C. and then George W., I just didn't have any proof that it did.

So, your the daughter of George E. and Rachel F. Mitchell Arie? Their parents were Sylvanus and Mary Cherrington Mitchell.

Sylvanus was the son of Lewis and Elizabeth Reeves Westfall Mitchell. Elizabeth would be my G.G.G. Aunt. My line comes down from Alexander's son George.

Thanks again for the information on the Arie's.

Mike Osler

Re: Joe Arie

The short of it: My mother-in-law grew up in Bonham and spent her young adult years there. She mentioned knowing Joe Lee, Edna and their parents Jesse & Jessie who ran a malt/coffee shop in the 40s-50s. She always referred to Joe as "Joe Lee", and the rest of the family members only by their first names. So I assumed Lee to be their surname. Trying to research her story, I went looking for Lees of Bonham and came up empty. I later learned that the family name was Airy, Ayers, or something like that.

Is Edna still living?

HI Rhonda,
My dad is Ray W. Arie, Jr., his dad was Ray W. Arie, Sr., Ray Sr's Mother was Paulina Logan and his father was John Williams Arie. Paulina's mother was Rachel ANN Arie and John Arie's father was William C. Arie.......i can only assume that there was some cousins marrying in there somewhere. Because paulina logans mother was an arie and john W's father was an arie???I know the William C. Arie as far back as his father Joseph Arie.......Now....was Rachel F. Arie YOUR grandmother? I am assuming that Rachel ANN Arie and Rachel F. Arie are two different people....any info you have on this matter would be very helpful to me. I hope this isnt too confusing.....thanks
Melissa
if you like we can email as well.........hullon@pld.com

Hi Jason, you called several years ago to find out if we were part of your family tree and found out we were. I still hope to meet you and your father, Frank. Is it possible to get a copy of your findings? Do you get down here to the island? Also, I have a half brother named Kenneth who is now located at Ft. Drum, NY. We saw Jimmy Lee and his family when we went to my high school reunion this past summer. Have you heard from Joann? She is Jimmy Lee's half sister. She may be in the Houston area.

Finding my Family

I am looking for information on the name of Arie. My father was Joseph Foster Arie and he had several brothers and sisters from around the Louisiana area. I know his mother an father were Helen Joe Arie and I know that his grandparent's names were Mary Joe Arie. Helen an Joe were suppossedly married in Desoto Parish and all the children were born there. One of their children died as an infant, his name was Randolph Arie. There were several others named as follows. George Lewis, Jessie James, Gilbert, Mary Inez, Katie, Mary Eveline. I know that Helen passed away shortly after giving birth to the youngest daughter, but I haven't had any luck with finding anything. Any help anyone might be able to offer would be very much appreciated. I have found out that Joe is buried in Leonard, Texas at the Leonard Cemetery. I have been told that Helen was from Red River Parish, but still nothing turns up for some reason. Joe the father was a tobacco farmer. I would like to have a copy of the marriage record of Joe and Helen if you can help me to find it. I will gladly pay for the records if anyone can tell me where to find them. I would also like to know if the grandparents were really what I have been told. Joe is supposed to be full blood French and Mary is supposed to be full blood Indian. I have pictures of them that I have located recently, but I have not been able to link them to Louisiana as of this time.
