Hi Dan--Hope you're still there. This is actually James QUINN Arledge (Q looks like an O), son of William Arledge and Sarah Bradley. He was born 23 Apr 1830 in Highland Co, OH and died 30 July 187. Married to Mary Frances Kennedy and father of Merrit Alva, Charles Franklin and John Milton Arledge.

Hope that helps.
Hi Vera! I just found your post. I can give you a lot of information about this family--Henry Irving Arledge (1879-1964) and his wife Eliza Edmund "Eddie" Lilly. He was originally from Winn Parish, LA but lived in Lincoln Co, AR where I believe she was born. Not my immediate family but I am an Arledge researcher.

I'd love to have a copy of the photo.
Hi Phyllis. I didn't know he married Dolly but she is listed as his closest contact on his WWII Draft Registration. He was married earlier to Cora McNair and possibly Lina Williams. It's actually Joseph Madison "Cortez" Arledge born 22 Dec 1876 son of John Franklin Arledge and Sally Joiner. I have his Arledge history if you need it. Please let me know if he married Dolly and had further children.

This is not my branch of the family but I am an Arledge researcher.

Thanks!

Pam wilsonpam@mindspring.com

I'm lloking for some information on my husbands grandfather, his name was David Lee Arledge and he was born in 1865 in Louisiana and died in 1929 in Texas, he was married to Mattie Elizebeth Smart and they had 2 children, Irene Smart Arledge and Edward Milton Arledge. They later divorced and we were told that he had remarried and he was living in Corpus Christi, Texas and had some more children. I'm working on our family tree and need to know the date of birth and death of him, and also the names of his parents and their dates of birth and deaths and where they are buried ,and the names of his other children if he had any. Any information that anyone could provide would sure be appreciated. Nightsweet.

MOSES7 ARLEDGE (WILLIAM6, JOHN5, WILLIAM4 ALDRIDGE, CLEMENT3, CLEMENT2, JOHN ALDRICH/1) was born Bet. 1773 - 1774 in Fairfield, SC; 1792 tax list in Fairfield; HOH 1820 in Fairfield Co, SC, and died Bet. 1828 - 1829 in lived in Fairfield and perhaps Kershaw Counties. He married HULDAH ???. She was born Abt. 1774 in had seven children.

Notes for MOSES ARLEDGE:

Not to be confused with the elder Moses Arledge, brother of William Sr. (and thus an uncle to this Moses), who died in 1790 and was married to Susannah, with no known children.

In the 1792 Fairfield Co SC tax list, Moses Arledge had more land than any other Arledge: 25 acres listed as 2nd quality and 425 listed as 3rd quality. [Chester Bulletin 9-1990 p. 82]

17 March 1799 Deed from William Arledge Sr. of Fairfield to William Arledge Junr. of Fairfield for 50 acres part of tract granted to Matthias Fellows 22 Nov 1771. Wit: Asa Bell, Moses Arledge, Elijah Arledge.

A Moses was listed as a head of household in the 1800 Fairfield County, SC, census, with one male and one female under 10, and one male and female 16-26. This would put his date of birth after 1774.

Listed in 1810 in Fairfield County: 183 ARLEDGE, Moses (21010-30010-00). Puts his birth range at 1765-1784, with a wife, 3 daughters (b. 1800-1810), one son b. bef 1800 and two b. 1800-1810.

In the 1820 Fairfield census, Moses was also listed (210001 23101).

Graham Louer wrote: "These three Moses (1800, 1810, 1820) seem to be the same person. The couple evidently had (at least) 5 sons and 6 daughters. Assuming all 3 are the same Moses, their ages can be narrowed down: both Moses and his wife were 16-25 in 1800 (thus born 1774-1784) and so in 1810 were both actually 26035; but, because they were 45+ in 1820, they must have been [just] 45 [at that time].... Thus , IF THE CENSUS IS CORRECT, both ... were born in 1774-1775. Assuming that Moses is of the Fairfield Arledge clan, he was therefore presumably on the 1790 Fairfield census in one of the Arledge households, conceivably as either under 16 or as 16 and up."

Graham uses a process of elimination to rule out Moses as the son of Moses, Isaac, Joseph, Amos and Clement. Therefore, he says, "This Moses was not, I think, in any of the enumerated Arledge households in 1790."

Also, I might add, I feel strongly that since the use of the Moses name began with Elizabeth Thomas [Arledge Fellows], that this Moses is surely a grandson of Elizabeth. This would lead us to look at known sons Moses and Isaac, and presumed sons John and William. Moses seemes to have died childless in 1791, and his brother Isaac seems to have also been childless except for his foster daughter Harriet. John raised a large family in Edgefield Co, SC. William is the most likely choice.

Graham Louer notes that a Moses Arledge is listed on the 1792 Fairfield Co, Tax Roll, with 25 A of second quality land and 425 A of 3rd quality land. He would seem to be very young to have this much land, unless inherited.

20 April 1798, Fairfield Co, SC: buyer at estate sale of Henry Rugely. He, with his wife Jane, his mother Mary, sold 350 a. of the original grant on 10 Jan. 1775, and on 5 Oct. 1811, Robert Shirley of Fairfield Co. sold 150 a. to Robert Shirley, son of John Shirley of Laurens Co., same described land on Raburn Cr. wit.
I have a word doc for the Samuel (b.1798-1800) and Molly Arledge who left Fairfield Co SC, moved to GA and then to ALABAMA by 1845. Samuel did not stay long in Alabama, leaving children and wife behind to move to Marion Co Tennesee. Go to the sites and you will probably find Elizabeth somewhere.

susanaldridge2000@yahoo.de

letter from Pam WIlson-
Posted by: Pamela Wilson (ID *****8820) Date: July 23, 2006 at 10:38:14
of 162

Dear family, friends, and (more or less distant) cousins in the Arledge family--

I am pleased to report that I've been able to update many of the family tree reports of some of the major branches of the Arledge family tree that were long overdue for updating. This is the first major overhaul in many years. I was amazed at how much new material I had amassed. These include:

Descendants of Isaac Arledge of Fairfield b. 1721 who settled in SC in mid-1700s:
--Descendants of Isaac Arledge Jr. (d. 1847) and Lydia Arledge
http://www.geocities.com/wilson_pam/isaac1847.html
--Descendants of Amos Arledge (all branches) of Polk County, NC
http://www.geocities.com/wilson_pam/amos.html

Descendants of John (b 1706) and Elizabeth Thomas Arledge who settled in SC in mid-1700s:
--Descendants of William Arledge of Kershaw/Fairfield SC
http://www.geocities.com/wilson_pam/wmkershaw.html
--Descendants of John Arledge of Edgefield District, SC
http://www.geocities.com/wilson_pam/edgejohn.html

I've also reinstalled a search feature on the site, so you should be able to enter a keyword and find all the relevant pages on which that word appears.
from
susanaldridge2000@yahoo.de

I have Pam Wilson s file on the Areledge family in Coosa, Elmore, Chilton counties ALABAMA. The name of my ancestor got changed to Aldridge, but pronounced Al-ridge. Samuel had about 15 children in GA before coming to Coos Co which later got devided up. ELmore was part of Coosa, for instance. Please say the name of your aunt and how she is related.

part of 1850 census material comes from the Comer Library Sylacauga, AL-
This census transcription was supposedly from the Luttrell collection at the B.B. Comer Library in Sylacauga. The Gen web Archivist removed the explanation about the Bible source materials from the info Wanda submitted. Carolyn Luttrell was a genealogist who did a large amount of work in Coosa and Tallapoosa Counties. The library named has a large amount of information she collected over the years. Bible records are mostly in her Talladega Miscellaneous Families Books -the families had ties to both counties. “Carolyn Luttrell” internet search returns many hits, all genealogy or history related.

Some notes I have added, especially about the Hardy family and the Ingrams. I am continually working to add info to this census. But please prove all information for yourself. I still have to transcribe Robert Hardy´s will- he died in Coosa Co. 1842 and is buried at Primitive Pond.

I am doing reserach on my grandfarther Mose/s Elijah Arledge and wife, Mallissie Jane Akins/Adkins Arledge, circa
1800-1945. So far, the most I have gotton are deadends.
The way to go is DNA, Linda Allred Cooper at lacooper@mindspring.com is handleing the ARLEDGE SURNAME PROJECT. The test is inexpensive and is not painful, all you have to do is swab your mouth, send the test in and wait for the results. Would all you ARLEDGE men consider this, because it would reduce a lot of searching and we would know who was related to who. My nephew and one other ARLEDGE has taken the test. We need a lot more
to do it.
Thanks
Sandra ARLEDGE Turner

My grandmother was Mary Ann Arledge who married to John Hubbard Glass. They lived in Jemison and had nine children (5 daughters and 4 sons). John died in 1930. Mary Ann passed away in 1965. My mother Virginia Glass was the youngest of the children. I was told by a cousin that the Glass name was shortened from Glasscock. My grandparents are buried in the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Chilton County. It's possible that we might have a link here. I'm trying also to do my own family tree. I would appreciate any info. I wanted to find if I had any ancesters that fought in the Civil War.

Hi Teresa--

Yes, I have a good deal of information on the Arledge family who came to Winn Parish between 1850-1860. The patriach of this family was Martin Arledge (1812-1889), married to Sarah Curry (1817-1885). Sarah's sister Mary Ann married Martin's brother Jonathan Arledge--they and their children migrated west to Burnet Co, TX. I have lots of information on the children, grandchildren, etc. of these two brothers, as well as their ancestry. I also have notes on many Winn Parish deeds and records involving this family.

Please email me at wilsonpam@mindspring.com for more information. I also maintain the Arledge Family History Project website at http://www.geocities.com/wilson_pam.

Thanks! I look forward to hearing from you and exchanging information.

Pam Wilson

Arledge Family in Alabama

Seeking info for my 102 yr. old great aunt, who is searching for her grandfather. Looking for any info on Arledge family, mid 1800's living in Chilton/Baker and surrounding counties in Alabama. Other surnames, Glass/cock, Comer, Littlefield, Dubose, Martin, Cost.
The Arledge family had a plantation that provided food during reconstruction of the South after the war. Arledge ranked high while in service. It is said that his wife (Comer) was crippled from a buggy accident whick Arledge felt responsible for. Nickname might have been Hance, or Lance.
For all I know this Arledge could have lived in Georgia and his wife from Alabama.

Phyllis Crim Johnson

Milly@hiwaay.net
