My name is Mary Coleman Adams, my grandmother was names Mattie Hawthorn Frazier and she had a brother named Charlie Arline. I live in Kountze,Texas adn all my mother's brothers and sisters were born here. They are all dead now and we dont know much history. I was married before to an Arline and his daddy was named Lemuel Arline from Hillister, Texas. There is two deserted cemetaries in Kountze that I knoe of , one called Old Olive Cemetery and another where a bunsh of Samual are buried. The existing cemetery is called Trinity Valley Cemetery and thare are lots of old graves in it dating back to the 1800's. I am researching the black Arline's in Hardin County Texas. From what I have found, the family came from Decatur GA area. I do know there are Arline members buried in an abandoned cemetery in Kountze TX. I want to located living members of this family. I hope they will be interested in their family tree and know the name of the cemetery that the family is buried in. I located on an 1870 census Arline, Delpha 50, Anthony, 18, Roxey, 17, Mack 15, Haman 10 Dod (DAD) 10. Jacob Arline lived in Hardin TX 1870 with Mary (Mahaley Sapp) 45, Clate 23, Abe 20, Gus 19, Ellen 18, Mandy (Amanda) 17, Ruben 14, Tamer (Tamilin) 13, George 12, Tom 8 Infant Arline 6/12. This family traveled to Texas with their daughter Susan Arline Hawthorne. She married Anthony Hawthorne of GA. They can be located on Hardin Census. Anthony was in GA and property of the Hathorn family. Must have located to Texas soon after Emancipation Proclamation. He married Susan Arline abt 1870 in Texas. However, evidence leads me to believe they married in GA and their first child Lem Hawthorne, born 1873 GA. Lem married and lived in Leesville LA. Came back to Bmt to die in 1966. I would most interested in what information you have on this family. I would like to write a history on black pioneers.

I am a caucasian Arline descendent. There were Arlines in Southern Georgia near Bainbridge Georgia. There is a little town called Climax Georgia. You might want to try there.

In my ancestery had a Malinda Arlin who lived in N.H about 1815. Reportedly had a son Charles Wesley Daniel Arlin who later changed his name to Daniel Davis. Daniel is listed in 1850 census Barrington, Strafford, NH withwife Mary A (Corsen from family history). Children - Juliet, Daniel W., Hannah?, Joesph. She was reportedly an Abinakie Indian. But name may have been Abigail and corrupted to Abinaki. She was reported to have spent time in Gonic, N.H. Trace can supposedly found at Olde Town, Maine.

My ggrandmother was Margaret Arlin and i believe she was from N.H. She ended up in CA and married Josh Abbott. Later married a man with the last name of Cherrie or Cherry. Is any of this familiar? It's hard to find Arlin's with this spelling.

Hi,
I guess we are very distant cousins. Margaret Boothe was the daughter of Jesse Arline of Gates County North Carolina. Jesse was the son of John Arline of Gates County.He is first known on the tax rolls in 1788. I have the Arlines traced back to 1695 to the first known Arline which was Jerimiah.He was located in Nansemond County VA. Margaret was also known as Peggy. In her father's will, he left her at the time of his death his negro girl Virginia and one hundred dollars in cash. Margaret was Jesse's fourth child by his first wife Milley Williams. It was noted that Jesse and Milley were married in 1799 and that in 1819 that all of his four children were still under 21 years of age. I would imagine Margaret was born about 1808 but I don't have any for sure info on that. Hopes this helps.

If I remember correctly I have some info on wills that the Arlines have. I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a blood relationship between the white and black Arline's.

yes I believe it is possible that pearls parents are from the east coast.
I was told that their parents came to texas to get married because where they were from it was not appropriate for a white woman to marry an ex slave.

My name is Valarie Saunders, for the past five years I have been trying to trace my roots. I am a member of the Arline Family. My great-grandmother was Joanna Arline (whom I have a picture of) she was married to Rev. Garrison Saunders (associate pastor at Middle Swamp Baptist Church) from Drum Hill, Sunbury area, other than what I read in Ms. Johnson message I was at a dead end. Their children were Minnie, Ruby, Lila, Aleez, Howard (Jack), Oscar Allen, all deceased. Oscar Allen was my grandfather (D. 1998) his first wife was Annie Kilby (D.1960), daughter of Jeannie Roberts and Miles Kilby. During the 1920's my grandfather moved to Waterbury, CT. His sisters Lila and Aleez went to New York City. The other siblings remained in Suffolk (Skeetertown), VA which is 11 miles from Gates County. Maybe Jesse Arline and Milley Williams were the parents of Ann "Nansey" Arline who married Graham Collins of Gates County, North Carolina in the 1820s.

My Arlines relatives are from North Carolina. (See message on message board). I find it interesting that you mention two sisters named Pearl and Ruby. Joanna Irene Saunders had two daughters named Minnie Pearl and Ruby, although they remained in the North Carolina, Virginia area. It was said the black Arline women from those parts had indian and white blood. Is there any chance your Arline relatives moved to Texas from somewhere else?

My name is Geneen N. Johnson and I have been working on a study which includes the Arlines from the Drum Hill area in Gates County. These Arlines are cousins of my Great-Grandmother Pinkie Rodgers, but I am trying to figure out how. I have a Kedar Arline and Lilda Rodgers who had a daughter named Alice Arline in 1855. Kedar may have been a slave of Jonathan Williams of Gates County, who had a daughter named Milly Arline. I believe Kedar may have been bequeathed to Milly in Jonathan's will. Alice's children were Henry, Preston and Joanna Irene. Preston moved to Ahoskie, NOrth Carolina. Joanna Irene later married Garrison Saunders. There was also an Aunt they called Tarley Arline or Grantar who was born about 1840 in Gates County. I do not know who Tarley's parents were. It is rumored this set of black Arline women had some white and indian blood and I am trying to confirm this. If anyone has any information, please leave me a message.
