I forgot to mention that my ZINK family, Andreas and his sons, Joseph, Bernhard, and Franz arrived here in Baltimore... then it appears that Andreas located to Manchester, York Co., PA. Joseph, my 2g grandfather lived in Harford Co., MD, in 1860, and then He and his wife (Marie Adam) and Bernhard and his wife were found in Needham, MA before settling in Marietta, Lancaster Co., PA and their father, moved across the river from Manchester to Marietta, Pa... where my father was eventually born.
Ironically, at the present time, I live just a few miles south from where the Isabella docked in Baltimore in 1855

Hi Bob;

I know that you posted your message in 2000, so you may no longer be monitoring this site. I am named after my ggrandfather, Gregor Armbruster. He came from Baden-Baden, Germany as a young man to fight in the American Indian Wars during the mid 1800s. I believe that he was part of a Missouri outfit. After his tour of duty he returned to Germany where he married and had two sons: Charles (my gfather) and another son (I don't know his name). Gregor and his young family (Charles was age 3) traveled back to St Louis, MO where they settled. I believe that they had son more children but I don't know gender or names.

My gfather, Charles, married a woman whose first name was Anna (I don't know her maiden name). They had several children, including my father, Joseph. My father enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and served in the South Pacific. After his tour of duty, he married Helen Jane Grommesch who was from Seattle, WA.

Does any of this sound familiar to you? I do have a cousin Bob Armbruster who grew up in St Louis. His parents were my uncle John and aunt Tee. Are you by chance my cousin?

Greg

Hi Greg

Thanks for your email. Your cousin, Bob, is actually my father, and his dad, John, was your uncle. I remember him talking of your dad, Uncle Joe and have seen him in old pictures that we have.

A few years ago, I had spent a lot of time tracing our Armbruster genealogy back and had actually found microfilm German birth records of Gregor and his parents. I have not spent much time the past few years doing this, but am sure I will pick it up again at some point.

One thing I've wondered is whether anyone has ever seen a picture of Gregor. There are pictures we have of Charles and his wife (Anna Kaehne), but no one that I know of has ever seen a picture of Gregor.

One interesting artifact we do have is Gregor's discharge papers from fighting in the Indian Wars. My Uncle Jack was given the original document, but I have a scan of it and would be glad to send it to you.

We have other old pictures (some with your father) which you would probably be interested in too. I'd be happy to scan them and send them to you.

If you're interested, I can assemble all the information I've found and email it to you. In fact, it would be great to pool the information and photos we each have to share with our families.

My email address is bobarm@swbell.net. Feel free to email me back.

Thanks again for your email.

Bob

Re: Karl/Charles Armbruster from Baden, Germany

Sorry for the delay. Just read your last submission. According to the site I mentioned, there is a Karl Armbruster who by emigration record applied to leave Germany in 1858 from Windschläg (by Offenburg, Baden) with parents listed as Sebastian Armbruster and Clara Fischer. I know the Fischer history. Quite a few people from this town emigrated, many settling in Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri. I'm familiar with Windschläg and also Appenweier which is close by. There are some Armbruster's in Windschläg, but even more so in Appenweier, so that might be where Sebastian was originally from. I've yet to research that. Karl's birthdate was listed as Feb 9, 1832, which is fairly close to the age your Karl is listed in 1860. However, this Karl was single at the time. So, perhaps there is a marriage record in St. Louis for yours between years 1858-1860 when the census was taken. There's two volume books for earlier marriages in St. Louis. Do you have access to those? If he's listed there, you might be able to find out the church he was married at and Wilhelmine's surname. If not, I'll do a look-up when at the library or local FHC next time.

Carol

I can't seem to find the census that you are referring to. Was the name mispelled? Where were they located then?

The Karl Armbruster I'm referring to is listed in the emigration site: "Dream of Liberty - Offenburg emigrants to North America". Birthdate and parents are listed on that website.

I've yet to confirm his birthdate, but I do have his parents with 2 other children listed in my database. The marriage date I have listed for his parents is two years after his birthdate. That makes me wonder if he was actually born in Windschlag or just lived there with his parents after they were married. I need to check those films again.

Emma Armbruster - Linn

Jacob Joseph Linn married Emma Armbruster on 10 Sep 1867. They had Magdalena, Anna Elizabeth, Bertha C., Adolph Joseph, and Emilie Eliza. They disappear after the 1880 census except for Emilie living with her uncle Henry in the 1900 census. They were in the Mascoutah, St. Clair County, Illinois area.

I am wondering what happened to them, did they die or move? The only other Jacob & Emma Linn's I have found have been in PA but were there at the same time as these were in IL.

Hi, I am looking for more information on, or looking for descendents of those listed. Please. Specificly descendents of Caroline (lena) who married Paul eilers in 1886 in Manhattan. Lena and Paul Eilers had a son William James Eilers b. 1888. William married about 1918 in NJ and had a daughter Ruth Eilers b. 1921. I believe they moved to Washington. Would like to find Ruth or her descendents. Aso I cannot find out what happend to Josephne Armbruster. I can find her in the 1880 Fed. census in NY NY. Then I loose her. Ken

Hi, i asked my mom....who is an Armbruster and she need's to know some dates. If they are newer dates then it could be one of her brother or sister's kid's and if it's earlier than now then it could be a different family. So...could you give a few dates of the Walter Armbruster you are talking about? Most of her Armbruster family members are here in Ohio. At least the one's we can trace. Thank you.
