RE: John Henry Armer

Greetings,
My great grandfather was Henry Armer and great grandmother, of course, was Lucinda Armer. Henry Armer was a rancher in Gila County. Henry and Lucinda had a number of children including my grandfather who was James "Bud" Armer. My dad was also John Henry Armer. (It's very confusing to keep the generations straight with so many duplicated names.)In addition my oldest brother is John Henry Armer, age 75, living in Phoenix, AZ. My son, and only child, is Sean Armer Cox and lives in College Station, TX. (I live in Lenexa, KS and work in KC, MO.

Do you know John R. Armer? John is the Sherrif of Gila County and he and his wife Claudia Sue have a ranch in the area of great grandmother's and great grandfather's Lucinda and Henry Armer's ranch.

In 1964 I was completing my undergraduate degree at Northern AZ University, Flagstaff AZ, and interviewed many Armers (Birchetts and Chilsons---also related through 'my' branch of the Armer family.) It was great fun. The paper was lousy but the process was enjoyable.

If I can supply more information please let me know.

I have (or had) some interesting information about Lucinda Armer. I'm not certain I can put my hands on it at this time. However, her family arrived in this country many generations prior to her birth. She was 20 some years younger then Henry. I have always heard Henry was a mean ole so and so. Of course we have to remember the times and he was alone in this world, as far as anyone knows. At the time I was researching I came up with the idea he might of picked up the name on his way west. He could not read or write his name and signed his name with an X. Lucinda was educated and took care of the financial end of their lives. When Lucinda died, she not want to buried next to him. He reportedly 'ran off' most of his children before they were very old. My Dad had a 'vague' memory of him. My Dad spoke of his dad, James "Bud" Armer as a kind and gentle man. My Dad was the same. I've not heard many good things about ole Henry. But my Dad loved his Grandmother, Lucinda. According to him she was fun, interested in every-thing and loved to visit his childhood home in the winter in Phoenix after 1913, My Dad said she could eat anything and would join them in pickles and onions as a late night snack. My dad loved her dearly.

I did not read the community guidelines. I hope this will be useful.

Peace.
MaryCay Armer

Discussion-William Nelson Armer

I'd like to see some discussion about the wife/wives of William Nelson Armer.

I've seen several postings of trees, etc., that list a first wife for William Nelson ARMER as being Bertha Miller. Most of these also attribute oldest daughter Amie (b. 1901) to this "first" marriage.

I don't believe that this marriage ever existed. I offer as "proof" the following:

1900 census reports for:
1. Prairie, Carroll, Arkansas lists William "Armor" with wife Bertha, and mother in law Amanda. Married 2 years.
2. 1900 - Plumlee, Newton, Arkansas lists also William "Armor", living with wife Margaret O., married one year.

The Family Bible record of William Nelson Armer and Margaret O Petree. This record reports their marriage as having taken place in 1899, and daughter Amie being born in 1901.

A son in law of William Nelson Armer and wife Margaret, stated without reservation, that William Nelson Armer was never married to anyone other than Margaret Petree.

Does anyone have proof that would contradict this information or documents?

Hello... I have been doing research on my family.

First off to make sure we are talking about the same family, its John Henry Armer and Margaret Adelaide Griffin? (Johns partets, from what I understand are Henry John Armer and Lucinda).

If I am correct John and Margaret children were, Frank, Ben, Alvin and Walter?

The reason I think this, is that Frank would of been my grandpa.

They were huge ranchers in Globe, AZ?

Let me know if we are talking about the same family here?
