I didn't realize that this didn't see tabs, so I redo it.
I haven't gotten a reply from Susan yet. Still hoping.
Now for my Armes line, I have been told that I descend from one of three illegitimate son's borne by Bletcher's daughter Turp Armes. She had two sons by two Patterson brother's ( ?Jim and ?Bill) and one by a Wallace. I can find no reference to a Turp Armes anywhere. The date of my great- grandfather's birth, 1856, tells me that only Mary (1832) or Elizabeth (1839) could possibly be his mother. I guess that Elizabeth was the Nancy E that married William H. Daugherty buried in Beech Grove Cemetery (Tioga).
I believe that Mary was his mother and her middle name was Turpin. This would explain much. When I found a listing in the index of Civil War Pension Applications for Polly T. Armes widow of Beecher Armes, I further guessed that her middle name was Turpin, possibly taken from her mother's maiden name.
This is of course a lot of assumptions, and as you know, assumptions make an ass of you and me.
