I note your message was posted in 2008 hope your still on line. My G father was Archie Armes, his father David, and his father David born in 1822 in Indiana. I am looking for verification that his father was indeed Reuban born in 1793 in Canada or England. On the 1900 census it is noted that his father was from Canada or England and his mother from Kentucky. Would you have any further information on Ruebens father. Any would be great. You can email me at dee1951@live.com

Armes family - Surrey UK

I have another query listed trying to locate information on Alice Armes. This query relates to her son Stanley William Armes his brother Peter and sister Elizabeth. I'm trying to match information I have that Stanley William Armes at some point after arriving in Australia changed his name to James Patrick Foley. His marriage certficiate in 1960 lists Alice Louise Armes mother Surrey UK and his birth as 28 August 1928 born in Fulham. In particular a photo of Stanley Armes would be helpful to confirm that he and James Foley are one in the same person. Many thanks for any help that can be offered.

Jefferson Davis Armes, Sally Ann Hamby

There seems to be some confusion regarding Jefferson Davis Armes, first wife, Sally Ann Hamby and their daughter, Lizzie Lucille Armes. So I will try to clear it up.

Jefferson Davis Armes b) 25 Aug 1901 d) 30 Mar 1985 Rockwood, Roane County, TN. Jeff, married Sally Ann Hamby, 16 Jan 1921 in Morgan County, Tn, they were married by Rev. Daugherty. Their daughter, was Lizzie Lucille Armes, b) July 27, 1922, and died 13 Mar 1996 Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. Sally Ann, was the daughter, of Elizabeth Patterson and Samuel Miller Hamby. Sally Ann, divorced Jeff in Morgan County, TN on 23 Oct 1924.

Lizzie Lucille Armes married Edward William Stevens in Clinton , Anderson County, TN . Their Children were: i) Male Stevens, ii) Male Stevens, iii) Female Stevens, iv) Female Stevens, v) Female Stevens.

Lizzie Lucille Armes, 2) husband was Thomas Howard Burnett, they married in Ohio. Their Children were: i) Female Burnett, ii) Male Burnett.

My mother, met her grandfather, Jeff Armes, one time at her aunts house when she was 12 years old, he tried to get her to come to his house and spend the night, but she decided to stay with her grandmother, Sally Ann. Jeff, worked at a coal mine, my grandmother, Lizzie, told me how she would go to the company store and use Jeff's script to get school books and clothes. She said he wanted her to come visit him as a child, but that she would go to his house, and get so homesick for her mom, and her grandmother's house, that she would head out for home before it turned dark outside.Lizzie, was the only daughter, Jeff had, and she loved her father; however; when he died she was not notified, so she didn't attend his funeral. My grandmother, Lizzie, was one of the sweetest, kindest persons I have ever known, and she was a Christian woman. She had four half-brothers. My great-grandmother, Sally Ann married 2) Pless Seiber.

Thank you, Scott Addis

Our family comes from Bletcher Armes who settled in Tennessee about 1820 in an area called Armes Gap--still there today. He had several brothers, but no one knows what happened to them. He had ten sons and a daughter, most of whom stayed in Tennessee, but one son, Jonathan, came to Texas. His son was Bird Lee, and that's the line my husband's family comes from here in west Texas.
Let me know if there's anyway I can help.
Judy

I have an Isaac Albert McGilvrey, born Feb. 1871 in Indiana. I've kinda thought it was in Parke Co., from various research. He sometimes used the name of "Albert." I don't know his parents yet. Found him that way on a census. He had some kind of connection with Buckley, Washington, don't know what.....lived there awhile. He was dead by 1905, & died Newton Co. Mo. He married Ora Ellen, born March 1871, Iowa. She died after 1949, Mo. She had married 2nd: Henry Thurman by 1920 census in Newton Co. Mo. I have 4 known children: Clifford, Ray (Evers?); James W. & Opal. The one I am searching for my friend is James., who was born 1902 in Boulder Co. Colo. & married an Alice, later divorced. Is this "Albert" the same one you are searching? Hope to correspond.
