Dearest Sam,
I have found you, lost you, and now I have found you again. My only excuse is that I am a novice at research. I am
trying to find out the names of all of George's children. You
have given me one more, I think, which is Mary. I need all
of the names to be able to find my son's Armistead ancestors.
My late husband died when our son was 21 and they had
not gotten around to tracing the Armisteads. When we moved to Alaska, in 1977, Bill found a book in the LDS
Library, but because of the many Williams and Peter Fon-
taines, he could not trace a direct line from George. Mabon
Armistead of Fort Stockton, Texas, had done most of the genealogy but we never got to see his information before he
died, so here I am, stuck with three names in one gene-
ration and nowhere to go. I do have Christopher Hughes
Armistead, Mary, and Elizabeth, to whom the Star Spangled
Banner was given. Now I need the names of the other
children, before I can continue to connect our son with
George and the Armistead line in England. Any assistance
from you would be sincerely appreciated.
Last summer, our son, William Leslie, went to Washington,
D.C. and was shown the Armistead flag finally being repaired
on a loom.
