Hi from Australia - have spent the past 2 days doing some research into her Armitage family (her brick wall that has just crashed down big time) not 10 minutes ago I found a family tree via google - under the heading There are many links with the Young and Armitage families - if you have a look at it and scroll down to Francis Armitage Jr & Elizabeth Powell that is the line where my friend comes in - her relation is Giles b c 1836.

Have not got his arrival in Australia - need her to obtain some bdm certificates to give us a bit more information before I head down that track.

I am certain that you will hear all the way over the otherside of the world when I give her my research.

Anyway just wanted to let you know that some of the family made it over to Australia.

Lynette

I too have traced my ARMITAGE back to Horbury, Yorkshire England.

Elizabeth ARMITAGE, born about 1792, married John LEE and had the following children born in Hunslet, Leeds, West Yorkshire England:

William LEE, born about 1815
Emma LEE, born about 1818, married Robert SMALLEY in 1840 in St. Petersburg, Russia, then widow Emma remarried John WHITTAKER in 1854 in Rothwell, Leeds, England
Elizabeth LEE, born about 1820

Elizabeth ARMITAGE also had other siblings including Ann ARMITAGE who we believe never married, and Mary ARMITAGE who married a David RUDDOCK.

They had many children including Samuel RUDDOCK who was a noted sculptor and stone carver.

Would be great to connect to anyone also researching this family.

Marina
Canada

Hi, I realize that this is a VERY old post and you may not even be doing the ARMITAGES any more, but, I was wondering if I could get your information. My father died when I was quite young and I am very interested in finding out about my background. They were from both Quebec and Ontario and were from Ireland.
I would be very thankful for any information that you could send my way.
Sharon
My maiden name was also "Armitage"
As near as I can find out, the line comes from Ireland and splits, some to Ontario, some to Quebec, where my grandfather, John James Armitage born 1888 married an Ellen Maria Fields who was Pennsylvannia Dutch. John pasted away in 1969 in Quyon, Quebec, where he and Ellen lived on a farm. John's father was Richard who was married to an Ellen, Richards father was Richard John who was married to a Mary McMurtry from Ireland. His father is said to be Francis "Big Ben" Armitage, son of "Old" William Armitage from Newtown Mills, Youghalarra, Tipperary, Ireland
If there is any information that I may have that I could help you out with I wouldn't mind at all.
Sharon

I really do not have much information on the Armitage family. I will ask my mother to see if she has any.
My great great grandmother was Lucy Kathryn Russell, her sister was Lydia Russell. Lucy married Albert Sweetapple.
I am not sure if I have any pictures of James and Lydia. There maybe but a lot of the picture are not labeled. I create an album called "unknown" and added them there. I believe most of the photos in there are from the Armitage side because they came from an album that had a lot of Armitage family photos in it.

Hi Arlene,
I am still looking for my GGrandfather Ben Armitage born 1846 in Austonley (Holmfirth) West Yorkshire. He went to Bradford and became a 'Carding Overlooker'in the wool trade. He was in Bradford in the 1881 census but missing the 1891. It is said he "went to America", presumably in the 1880s. I have not been able to trace him at all.
Does he appear in any of your researches?
Thanks
Jack

Just to update. I have since proven that Benjamin Franklin Armitage and Mary L. Perryman are the parents of my great grandfather, William Marvin Armitage, born in Texas.

B.F.'s parents were Uriah Armitage and Araminta Jane Jenkins. The can be found in Delta County, TX in the 1880 census. I cannot find a record of Uriah's death, so that is my next step.
