Hello Janelle. I was born in San Francisco, California to Warnell Armstead (RIP 7/11/2009) son of Willie J. Armstead. I believe that Sarah is my cousin too (Uncle Roy's youngest daughter - RIP). You have made my day!!! Yes, the Alfred and Elizabeth that you have listed ARE my great-great-great grandparents!! I have never been able to find out what Elizabeth's last name was, and you broke THAT brick wall for me....thank you!!

Alfred and Elizabeth's son Richard was born on October 12, 1879 in Armley, Leeds. He became ill when he was older, and wanted to live long enough to be here when I was born. I was born July 1965, and he died in Yonkers, NY on Oct. 6th, 1965. He and Eva May were married in England, on Sept. 2, 1899 at St. Bartholomew's in Leeds. I am VERY fortunate to have my grandmother (Richard and Eva's grand-daughter) still alive. My granparents just had their 68th wedding anniversary, and she is a deep well of information regarding her relatives, although dates are becoming a little fuzzy. She has Richard and Eva's marriage certificate, which is why I am sure of the location and date.

Richard and Eva had 5 children, although you have listed only 4. I have the little baby book that Richard and Eva keep for my great-grandmother, May Armistead. SHe is one of the people that you listed as "private", so please contact me if you would like further information. I would love to have you ok it, so that I can see what information that you have. The other person that you listed as private must be her sister Elsie Armistead, who was born on 11/12/1904 in Leeds.

Alfred Armistead (Jr.) was born on May 5th, 1902 in Leeds. My grandmother does not know what he died from, just that he was very young.

His brother David Armistead was born on 7/18/1903 in Leeds also. According to your notes, he died at 3 months of age, which would put him around mid-October. These are the birthdates that Eva wrote in the baby book, so that is what I have always gone by.

The had another child, George William Armistead. George was born on 10/16/1915 in Yonkers, NY and died there on 10/10/1947.

Richard and Eva came to the states together, but were divorced pre-1930. According to my grandmother, Eva didnt want to be around her children anymore. I know that the 1920 census STATES they were together still, but I am not sure. Eva ended up marrying a man named James McDonald. I have family pictures of Richard and Eva, and Eva and James. James died in 1949, and Eva died in at home in Yonkers, NY on 6/5/1953.

According to my grandmother, Richard was despondent, and called Eva's sister Sarah Elizabeth and asked her if she could come and help with the children. Sarah's husband WILLIE(?) had passed away, so she came to the states to help care for the children. Richard ended up marrying Sarah. Grandma remembers her fondly, and said they called her "Aunt Lizzie".

Not easiest to access - go to general search and type Alfred Armistead in search term - he is the one born Wortley 1848

Although I think they all originated from western Yorkshire Dales (Giggleswick (Settle), Clapham, Gargrave, Arncliff), there were several families in Leeds by 17th or 18th century. I need to spend more time trying to tie them up and look for other sources but I have to travel there to do so.

I have the same date for the marriage of Josiah and Barbara Helmick. Do you know anything about Dianna Henderson or Josiah's parents. I have most of the information about the people that I am directly descended from. That means my Aunts, Uncles and cousins. What do you need? Are you in WV. I still own the house I was raised in in Clarksburg, WV. My mother corresponded with an Armistead from the southern part of WV. I know she knew about a reunion around Charleston but never had a chance to go. I would like to know more about why some have the i as I do verses the i left out. I look forward to your answer.

Hello,
I am DellaSue Armistead Sheline. My father was Harmon Louis Armistead; his father Harmon Louis Armistead; his father John J. Armistead; his father Josiah W Armistead; and his father John Armistead. Josiah was born in Cumberland Co, VA in 1807. He married Diana Henderson Sept. 11, 1838. They sound like the same family you wrote about 2 Jul, 2008. He was a welder for 59 years and a member of welders union local 798. He was a member of the Doctor Creek Community Church.

He was preceded in death by father, Roy Ray Armstead Sr.; mother, Hallie White Kennedy; wife of 57 years, Mary Lou Plants Armstead; and sisters, Phyliss Jean Bailey and Wanda May Browning Beighle.

Wanda May (Kennedy) Beighle, 71, of Clendenin, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 14th, 2009 at CAMC General Division in Charleston after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul Rex Browning, William Paul Beighle, parents, Clarence Worth and Hallie Gae (White) Kennedy, and sister, Phyllis Bailey.

Survivors include her son, Richard Allen Browning, daughters, Deborah Lynne Bragg, Karyn Sue Ely, brothers, Ray Armstead, Chuck Kennedy, Ronnie Kennedy, sisters, Mildred Lyons, Carol Snow, 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 at Matics Funeral Home in Clendenin with Rev. Clarence Deel officiating. A private burial will be at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens in Cecilia, KY. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.

Researching Hattie Armstead (born abt 1885 in Connecticut). Found another Armstead family - Father Samuel, Mother Mate? with children Hattie, Walter, Curtis, Flora, Nellie, Mattie, Matt & Jessie. All those names are found in later generations of my Hattie - so there must be some connection. Samuel's eldest daughter Hattie is 20 years older than my Hattie. I figure my Hattie must be the daughter of one of those children -but I can't find a link!

I met them when they came in and visited cemeteries in Roae County, WV one year. My mother and Freda used to exchange letters all the time. I believe I have a couple of them in the huge container I have of family tree documents I started gathering when I was 17. That was a very long time ago. I'm finally using a program to try to get it all organized, but it is going to take a while since I work and am in a quilting circle. There is just so much misinformation in books and on the internet that I want to be sure I have anything I put out there correct. Wasn't Lundy Armstead thru Thomas J. Armstead's line too? He was married to my Great Aunt Gladys Patton Armstead. I talk to a young woman from Arkansas who is distantly related to me on my Dad's side. NaLisa Brown - thru the Moye family. Are there anymore names on the lease you have? My mother use to receive mineral right payments from this. Her name was Opal Keeling---her mother Cora Anderson---Cora mother ws Daimy Armstead Aderson. My great grandmother Daimy was Thomas Jefferson Armstead daughter.
