Minnie ARMSTRONG, Delaware Indian Elopes with Murderer 1912 OK

...from the archives of Oklahoma City, OK:

The Daily Oklahoman
Saturday
06-15-1912
p.1/12

MURDERER ELOPES WITH INDIAN GIRL

But Authorities Interfere and He Is Taken to McAlester

Bartlesville, Okla., June 14 -(Special)-

Arch Stewart, who was convicted of the murder of Lewis Woodard
in the district court here last January, was taken to the state
penitentiary at McAlester this week to serve a term of three
and one-half years. Following his conviction, Stewart was
released from the county jail here when Arthur and Henry Armstrong,
two wealthy Indians, put up an appeal bond of $5,000.

A week ago Stewart jumped his bond and eloped with Minnie Armstrong,
the pretty 19 year old daughter of Henry Armstrong, and the couple
was found in a Claremore hotel. Armstrong was highly enraged at
the elopement of his daughter, immediately withdrawing the bond he
had put up for Stewart's freedom.

Miss Armstrong, who is infatuated with the convicted murderer, says
she intends to visit him at the state penitentiary, but her parents
are keeping a close watch on her. She is a Delaware Indian and the
owner of valuable oil lands.

***posted for genealogical purposes only; no relation***
Jesse James Armstrong from Illinois

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me. My grandfather went by the name Jesse James and James Jesse Armstrong. He always said he was born 21 Mar 1886 in Arcola, Ilinois, but there is no record at the Courthouse. He had a falling out with his family while he was away fighting in WW I. His story was that his sister died (maybe of the flu?) and her husband inherited the family farm. He was so angry he left and never spoke of them again. He went to Arkansas, married Helen Nickles, and raised 4 daughters. We have no idea of his sister's or her husband's name. His brother MAY have been named Homer Armstrong and MAY have lived in Arkansas, but I am not sure. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? I can not believe how many Jesse Armstrongs there are!

Thanks,
Judy

I am looking for any information regarding my Grandfather Johnie Armstrong. He was born July 24, 1884 d. April 23, 1968. He was married to Donna Hancock. Johnie is the 3rd in line my dad being the 4th. I have been told my grandfather was born in Dublin Ireland and immigrated to Texas with his parents Johnie Armstrong 2nd and Mother Bell Wright. They worked a cattle ranch in Texas owned by Johnie Armstrong 1st his father apparently already living in Texas. Johnie 2nd and Bell died of small pox during a cattle drive. My grandfather was raised by his grandfather. My grandfather had 3 brothers supposedly all texas rangers. I do not know their names. Also my Grandfather had a previous marriage to Donna Hancock. My Grandfather died in Oklahoma city. And was nicknamed "Jack" the all american boy. We believe the ranch to be either in Austin or San Antonio, TX. Please any help or where to search next would be greatly appreciated.

Searching for John Armstrong b. 31 August 1905

I am looking for info on my great grandfather, John Armstrong. I believe he also went by Johnnie on legal records. He was born in Missouri 8-31-1905 and died in Redondo Beach Ca 01 January 1966. He is buried in the Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach. He divorced my great-grandmother, Norah Jones (DeLaittre) and served in WWII and then married a woman named Florence from England. He was a meat cutter by trade. They returned to the US and lived in California until his death.

I cannot find any information about his parents except that his mother's maiden name is Allen. He had 2 children, my grandma, Norma, and her half-brother, John B., both of whom are still living. My grandmother doesn't really remember much of her father because they were astranged, and John I have never spoken to.

Any info would be great!

I am descended from Thomas Armstrong b.1840/1 who was son of this couple. He had a brother James b.1839 who served and died during the Civil War.

I have very little information on either of these parties. I would love to move William back further with parentage but am at a loss.

Anyone have any info on either of these would be greatly appreciated...even James' unit and circumstances.

MY GREAT-GRAND MOTHER,MARGARET FAHEY REMARRIED IN NOV.1914. SO MY GGFATHER WILLIAM DIED AFTER THE 1910 CENSUS AND BEFORE NOV,1914. IF ANYONE KNOWS THE DATE AND YEAR,SHIP HE WAS ON OR WHAT PART OF SWEDEN HE LIVED IN OR IF HE HAD ANY SIBLINGS,AUNTS,UNCLES,COUSINS IN SWEDEN.
fNeed help finding relatives around Knox & Peoira Co., IL

Fellow researchers;
It was called to my attention by a very nice woman who lives in Elmore and whom I met through my daughter's & mine sheep escapades., took us over Sunday afternoon to a cemetery which I believe to be the destroyed or who the Knox Co Genealogical Society in the early years--- meaning the 1970's ---called the Greep ~ Anderson Cemetery. Although all the stones we found in this cemetery belong to just one family and there may have been more as there was a deed to this cemetery. But a farmer is driving over it with his big machinery & time is of an essence to put a stop to this on account of he is destroying what little bit of dignity I feel these people have left. Laurie was very upset and said she has watched it be plowed down and run over and didn't know what to do until she met me. Then she couldn't find the cemetery and then she did, and took me to it. The only name of people buried there we found are Armstrong and seems to be the family of a William Armstrong with several wives, two at least by the names of Lucy A. & Lydia. There is also a son who died at the young age of 18 years in the civil war he is not buried there but a stone is placed in this family plot to remember him by; which now you couldn't tell that. Why anyone who knew about this & would let this continue is beyond me. ~~Shame Shame~~ The bean s are going to have to be picked here very soon and I would like to be able to have him go around the stones for now so they are not completely destroyed. Please help me and the ones who are buried there if you have any information or might be descended from any of them please email me. Thanks.
You can find the photos I took on Sunday and then again when I returned yesterday on my Knox Site
http://www.usgennet.org/usa/il/county/knox/index.html
Click on above link then go to cemeteries then down to Truro twp., and Greep ~ Anderson Cemetery. I made two pages out of the photos I took and if you have a slow internet connection it takes about 8 minutes to download the second page. The link to it is at the bottom of the first page. The first page might take up to 5 minutes on a slow internet connection. But please help. Why anyone would not do anything if they knew the conditions and what is happening here is beyond me. I'm working on this as fast as I can to see what I can do. Other Farmers have been sued for this kind of treatment of and old cemetery even in an abandoned state. I know of several this has happened to. Thanks for your time & in reading this. I hope to hear from somebody out there.

You can also see the cemetery by going to my Illinois saving Graves web site
http://www.usgennet.org/usa/il/state2/index.htm

and clicking on endangered cemeteries and then down to the Armstrong Cemetery. It is what Laurie called it being's all the stones have the Armstrong surname on it.
Thanks
Foxie Hagerty
1635 Sherwood Road
Dahinda, IL 61428
Phone: 309-337-5530
Vice-Pres Knox Co Genealogical Society
Warren Co.
John Thomas ARMSTRONG 1862 - ? Master Butcher: Wigan UK to Illinois to Wigan UK

My Great Grandfather John Thomas Armstrong was born in Illinois in 1862. His parents Michael Armstrong & Jane Rhoden had left Wigan, Lancashire, England a couple of years previously. Michael and his family returned to Wigan soon after, without Jane (could she have died in Illinois?). John Thomas married Mary Jane Powell in 1882 in Wigan and had 2 daughters, Ann & Alice. He was listed as being a butcher on all the certificates. Unfortunately he does not appear on any census reports with his family after marriage. Mary Jane always lists herself as 'Married' and not 'Widow', even her death certificate in 1934 states 'wife of John Thomas Armstrong, Master Butcher'. I have been unable to trace the death of John Thomas, or his whereabouts after 1885. Can anyone help please?

She married John L. Keltner, son of Absalom and Margaret (Horn) Keltner in Lawrence, Douglass County, KS around 1863-1865. I am descended through her daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Keltner) Brown (1864-1942), her granddaughter, Bertha (Brown Richards (1897-1985), and her great-granddaughter, Nelda Mae (Richards) Lutz (1925-2002).

Mary Armstrong married Simon S. Abernethy/Abernathy around 1850; they lived in NC: Lincoln and Gaston counties. The couple had many children including two sets of twin girls, Mary & Rebecca, and Nancy & Rachel. I found the family in the census reports for 1860, 1870 & 1880. Simon passed away prior to 1870. I would like to hear from anyone who has information about this family, especially after 1880.

Bruce

Elias Armstrong m. Patience Badger, 1753. There are records of the births of two daughters, Ruth and Susannah. However, a letter at the Greene Co (NY) Historical SOciety from a Mildred Dvaies (ca. 1979) states that she is a descendant of Elias and Patience through their son, Benjamin Greene Armstrong. Does anyone have anything connecting Benjamin to Elias?

Happy to share whatever I've got

James Armstrong, Delaware

James ARMSTRONG, son of William ARMSTRONG and Ann BEATY, m. Elizabeth HIGGINS, about 1780 in Delaware. They were parents of two children: John Higgins ARMSTRONG, b. 1783, and Susannah ARMSTRONG, b. 1785. Tradition says that James and Elizabeth died when the children were young, and that they were raised by relatives -- possibly members of the HIGGINS family. I found a possible date of 1789 for the death of James, but no source for the date.

I'm searching for the following information: dates of death and place of death for James and Elizabeth Armstrong. I would also appreciate information about John and Susannah in their early years.

Thanks.

Jean Gilmore

Edwin served in the 33rd NY Infantry and died in 1868 at age 29. Records show Edwin's middle name as Jeffrey and his mother's maiden name as Strickland. Although I am not a member of the Armstrong family, I am interested in learning more about Edwin.
I'm trying to put together a family tree and I hit a road block. My great-great-grandfather was Thomas Moore Armstrong. He was born in 1876 in New Brunswick Canada. His father's name was Thomas Armstrong and his mother's name was Jane Buchanan. I can't get any further back than that. I think his father Thomas was born in 1823 in either Ireland or Scotland. His mother was born in New Brunswick. Thomas Moore Armstrong was married to Alice ??? The moved to Massachusetts some time after 1900. My great-grandmother (their daughter) was born in Danvers, Mass. in 1913 her name was Dorothy Elizabeth Armstrong. If you have any information on this family please, please let me know. Thank You. They had 2 children - Michael and David.

I am also looking on information on her - Her father was John H. Armstrong and her mother was Ida Pearl (not sure of her maiden name). They had 4 children including my Grandmother (Nonnie, Tramble O, and Brenson - who goes by Neil). I can only find one record for a Tramble Armstrong, but I'm not sure it is him - It's a military record from Louisiana - but their family lived in Brewton, Al. Any information would be GREATLY appreciated.

Sophia Armstrong (b. 1866) PA

Looking for information on Sophia Armstrong born December 10, 1866 (probably in PA). According and the 1870 census she was living in Bedford, Snake Spring Township, Bedford County, PA with her parents John and Susan Armstrong. I believe Susan's maiden name was Evans (she might have been married to a Miller before marring John Armstrong). Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Armstrong in Durham, England

I would be interested to hear from anyone with connections to the descendants of Henry Armstrong, b Chester-le-Street, Durham, c1816, and his wife, Elizabeth Thompson, b. Escombe, Durham, c1819. I am particularly interested in their daughter, Jane, b.Sunderland, c1850, who married James Flack, but information on her siblings would be very helpful as well. Thanks
