Hi My name is Michael Hackler and my mother had an older brother named Einer and his last name would have been Arneson. Because of the way Scandinavian family names were adopted in the United States and the traditional Scandiavian way of naming. We need to compare some notes to make sure we are talking about the same family.

Einer's parents were Carl Arneson Meldalen and Ann Amelia Berg. I have learned that in Norway the farm the peron was born on and his family lived on became part of his last name for purposes of searching ancesters in Norway. Thats why Meldalen was used to identify Carl. Here Meldalen was dropped. Einer was the Carl and Anna's oldest child and he was born in Sweden in 1910. Karl had immigrated to the United States in 1909 and Anna and Einer followed in 1912 going to Lead City, South Dakota to meet Carl (Karl). This does leave open the possibility that Karl was not Einers birth father. But Anna could have been pregnant when Carl left and that is why she didn't go with him. Carl went to eastern North Dakota to work as a farm labor and later moved to Lead, SD to work for Homestake. Art, Einers next younger brother was born in Terryville in 1914, his brother Charles(Chuck) was born in Terryville in 1918. My mother Olga was born in Roscommon, Michigan where the family had moved because Carl was under the impression that he had bought a farm in Michigan. Mother said that the farm was bogus and Einer and his father went to work in the auto industry according to 1930 Federal Census and the Census said Art was in Panama. The family sometimes in the early 1930 moved back to Lead and Carl went back to work for Homestake and he died in Lead in 1945 of work related illnesses. Anna had died in 1935 from lye poisoning. The story I heard from both Mom (Olga) and my Uncle Charles was that they came home from the Army for Carl's funeral and then left town and they never heard from them again.

Can you compare what you know about where your Einer was during his life and if any of the family names or places match.

Carl's full name was Carl Julius Arneson son of Arne Edvardsen. I don't have a middle name for Einer. Art's full name was Arthur Conrad Arneson, Charles' full name was

Charles Ingsvald ( might be misspelled), and Olga's full name was Olga Margretta Arneson.
