I am member of the Arnet family of Tofino.
I am a grandson of Jacob Henrik Arnet, who came here from Norway
around 1894. We still have relatives in Norway,and many family
members in B.C.

Dear Canadians,

I saw this discussion by accident. If anybody are interested I have collected vast information on the Arnet family and have a family tree on www.myheritage.com going back to the 15th century. It is all free to search for those who want to know more about this distinguished norwegian family. You will also find biographies and photos and photos of family portraits etc. I am in the process of having the family coat of arms dating from the Peter Arnets arms in the 18th c painted by the Royal Herold of Denmark (who serves the danish royal family), if anybody are interested in a photocopy. Please note, this is the real thing, not the cheap, nasty and ridiculous "surname arms" that you get by mail order in USA and England.

I'm looking for info of Sally Arnet who married Robert L. Strange before 1900. I found Sally in the 1900 Polk Co. FL Census and lists her as married to Robert. She was born abt 1878 in NC according to the 1900 Census. She died shortly after they were married and left a small son. Robert also died shortly after and they put the boy in the orphanage there. Sure would like to find her parents. Robert was born in Grayson Co. VA. But haven't found a married cert yet for this couple...any help would sure be appreciated very much...

Just found a posting on this site. I have the geneology via my mother and am currently working on updating the Arnet family courtesy of the reserach my mother Astrid Arnet Furrie did. It should be complete within the next 6 months or so before I am ready to go to print. My Grandfather Martin Arnet was one of the Arnet brothers to come from Norway and settle in Tofino. He first sent for my Mother , Hildebjorg Johanna Arnet from Trondheim, Norway then a few years later brought Arvid and Johan. We also were at the reunion in 1994 and left a lot of family information with Rolly who was going to put together a family tree.I have heard from Rick Hansen(my nephew) that there is now a family tree for the Arnets!! Please let me know as I am very interested to have all the bits and pieces of that side of the family together. If I can help I do have names and dates etc. Taak. Gunhild (Hansen-Arnet) McKay

Hello to all Arnets out there too. Astrid Arnet was born in 1923, in Norway, and came to Tofino when she was 6 years old. Her father was Christian August Arnet, mother Ida Pauline. 2 other siblings, Thelma, and Christian. My mother went to great lengths to put together the Arnet family tree, along with my uncle, who have both since passed away. All the information went to my sister who lives in California, and she was going to put it together. I will try and contact her, and see if she could forward the information if she hasn't completed the work.

I am interested in anything that you may have on Fredrick Gerald Tibbs. I am compiling a history of BCs eccentrics, and characters. I believe that Fred may have been in this colorful group. Any help you could provide illuminating the past and retaining part of history would be greatly appreciated.

Hello to all Arnet' out there. My gradfather was August Arnet. His brothers were Sofus and (Jacob?)but I don't remeber a Martin. I was at the 100 year Family Reunion. My dad was the youngest of three children of August and Ida Paline, Astrid (Furrie)born 1926, Thelma (Thomas) born 1929, & Christian born 1931. I found documents that show that August originally arrived in Canada via Ellis Iland via Bergen, around 1911. My Mom has the family diary of either August or his dad , I read it once but forget the exact dates. My cousin has all the research that Aunt Astrid did, but I would have to contact her to see if she wants her info posted.

Am looking for anyone with a connection to Ruth ARNET who married George HINTON Aug 07, 1824 in Licking Co, OH. I don't know Ruth's maiden name or her first husband's given name. By 1850 George was living in Boone Co, IL with his daughter, Melinda, and her husband, Thomas Parks. I don't know if Ruth died or if George and Ruth got a divorce. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We were at that reunuion! Unfortunately I wasn't into researching the family history then. I was out in Tofino 2 weeks ago and made a visit at the cemetery and got some dates. I thought there would be more though. Earl's grandparents are in that cemetery but their headstones can't be read. There is only 2 of Sofus' children left. But we don't know so much about Sofus' siblings. Any info would be great.

My husband's grandfather was Sophus's brother Martin Arnet. There was a runion of the Arnet family, descendants of all the brothers, held in Tofino 10 years ago. There were family trees tracing all the descendants of each brother. I am not sure if the information is still available, but may be able to put you in touch with someone who may know.

My husband's mother is the daughter of Sofus Arnet. I do not have many dates for the Arnet family. I would like to know more. I have a poor photocopy of Martin Arnet's obituary. It would be great to have any information you have on the Arnet family. Let me know if you need something about Sofus' family. Marlene

I'm a descendant of those Arnets. My great grandfather, Martin Arnet came to Tofino from Norway and after settling, sent for three of his children, Arvid, Hildeberg, and my grandfather, Johan. Aside from family history, I have access to some limited-print books on the history of Tofino families. What do you want to know? Linda, I have been searching for a James Arnett who is supposed to have left Monongalia County, (West) Virginia before the 1850 census at least for Highland County, OH. Since this James H. Arnett's children underage, he might be too young for the James Arnett I am searching. My James was born by 1820 or earlier and was the son of James and Elizabeth (Barker) Arnett. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
