Re: Daniel Arnette

My name is James Daniel Arnett Jr. (Danny)

I have a little bit of information that may be of interest to you. My father was James Daniel Arnett, my grandfather was James Dewey Arnett. My grandfather Dewey died in Blakely, Early County, GA, 1952 at the age of 42 from complications from hernia surgery. I have the following information taken from his obituary: He was survived by 3 brothers, W.I., Jack, and Elbert Jr., all of Broadway, NC. 4 Sisters, Mrs. Arthur Strickland of Eufala, AL, Mrs. Carlos Benefield of Ozark AL, Mrs. Emmett Edgars of Broadway, NC, and Mrs. Nodie Bass of Ft. Meade, FL. According to information I found Mrs. Carlos Benefield is Dessie/Destie Arnett.

From the 1910 Census of Coffee County, AL, Daniel and Della Arnett had the following children as of 1910:
Walter, born about 1900
Noah, born about 1902
Isaac, born about 1904
Collier, born about 1906
Lura, born about 1907
Dewey, born 1/18/10
Sarah Arnett was living with them, she was 81 and blind. I think she was Dewey's grandmother, she had been married to William Arnett.

Dewey Arnett built furniture and sold it in Union Springs, AL, and later Blakely, GA. A relative I have communicated with interviewed his grandfather and said that Daniel and possibly his parents graves were in Rocky Head Cemetery in Coffee County, and that Dewey's brother Noah Arnett lived in Tabernacle, AL, south of the cemetery.

I don't have any records of the Arnetts after that. i apologize for the long post, but I am really excited to find this website and thread.

I would appreciate any information you have. I have been looking off and on for information for years, and found very little until today. I haven't joined ancestry.com, but it looks like I will need to! My email is tracker270@yahoo.com, please email me with any information you have.

Thanks
Danny

Re: CORRECTIONS

Remember
"1807 Edward, son of Edward, dec'd"

At any rate at least one is descd in 1807 and it is probably Catherine Querns husband because there is another will in Abbeville also for another Edward in 1783 (prob. Ann Arnett's husband) and 1783 would have given time for all six of those named in John Querns will to be born, considering that Mary Arnett. my relative was born 1761 to 1771 time period. Edward and Samuel of Abbeville are the sons of unknown Arnett, or Edward is the son of the 1767 Samuel Arnett (named in plat).
http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/onlinearchives/Thumbnails.as...

Ann Spears, sister to John Spears and therefore probably half sister to John Querns as well, making her children his nephews and nieces. John Speer was probably not having any children at that time. I believe Ann Arnett the mother of the children was married to Edward Arnett whose will was probated in Abbeville 1783 (I have not seen it.). But an Edward also had land in Spartanburg, There was also another William Arnett born near Abbeville ca 1777 who married Sarah Henderson and there was a Samuel Arnett "immigrant" given land in 1767 in Abbeville. May have been just chance. But "immigrant" can mean he came from another state. From say Maryland to the Carolinas. This Samuel was a generation or 2 older than the neices and nephews of John Quern, so I would say he was brother or father to Edward Arnett who died in 1783. The Speers family also lived in Abbeville.

Edward Arnett and Samuel Arnett (1767 plat in Granville (Abbeville SC) next to Frazier Creek in Long Cane and James Lockridge who died in Abbeville. See plat.

Either John Spiers father was married to John Querns mother as a 2nd or 3rd wife and she was on her 2nd or 3rd marriage too, or some other concoction I did not think off LOL. . Which one is she? or has she been left out all together.

There is no reason why Catherine Querns would be the sister of John Querns. More likely she is a niece because she is a generation later. John Querns was born ca 1730/40 (no proof). His nephews were
William who married Sarah Glaze
Edward who married Catherine Querns (somehow related to John Querns..but 20 years younger)
Samuel who married unknown and Ann Catchings Ashmore b 9 Oct 1779
Margaret who married Charles Anderson (brother William was born b: 8 JAN 1763)
Nancy who married Martin Anderson
Mary b ca 1765 who married John Stephens b 1761.. she states John Querns is her uncle in court records.
Susan

Hi, I saw an e-mail from my sister Debbie Arnette Adams and my cousin, Donna Clemons collins. I am also interested in any information you may have concerning my grandfather Wentz Earthman Arnette and Hazel Harris Arnette, his wife. I am also interested in any native american history. I understand that the Arnette family is of French Huguenot descent.
Thank you, Darlene Arnette

Hi
John Querns/Quearns is buried at Smyrna Meeting House (methodist) and his nephews were Edward who married Catherine Quearns (maybe a niece or younger sister of John Querns), William who married Sarah Glaze, and Samuel who married Ann Spears and Ann Catchings Ashmore, widow of William Ashmore. The Arnett boys sisters were nancy who married Anderson, Margaret who married Anderson, and prob. Mary who married John Stephens. edward Arnett had also lived in SC but by the time his uncle died, he was living in WIlkes as well on John Querns land. I think John Querns may have brought them all up and acted as a father. He was from Maryland originally and was in Wrightsboro by 1773. Maybe his sister married the father of the boys (Edward, Samuel and William) but no one knows the parents names. We can guess that their mother was a Quearns or a Spears. John Quearns mother married both men and John Spears is his half brother. John Spears appears in Spartanburg property next to an Edward Arnett, probably his nephew. Both John Spears and John Querns were from Maryland according to old Wilkes records. a 1774 trip may be tied to the ceeded Lands and the Wrightsboro (WIlkes Co GA) community which received land at that time. John Querns was recorded in 1773 there, unmarried. I di not think he ever had children himself.
Susan

John Quearns Querns of Maryland and his Arnett nephews in Wilkes GA

Catherine Quearns could have been the neice of John Quearns, as she was young enough to be the wife of his nephew Edward Aenett. Edward, Samuel, and William were brothers and all nephews of John Quearns. Edward married Catherine Quearns and had 4 children-John, Felix, Martha Ann and Kitty -the last 3 being minors when he died. His brother Samuel married Ann Spears and in 1819 Ann Ashmore, a widow of William Ashmore, and brother William b abt 1785 married Sarah Glaze.

Nancy and Margaret were also neices and they both married Anderson brothers, sons of Gideon. Mary was a Quearns or an Arnett and also his neice and she married John Stephens. All is substantiated in court records. Margaret Murphy was probably a Spears or Quearns sister as she gets more than the other girls. John Spears was John Quearns half brother. but I do not know if he was older or younger and therefore do not know which man his mother married first. John Quearns was probably never married and brought up his nephews and neices which is why his nephews were living on his land. See my blogger: http://ransom-middleton-meadows.blogspot.com/2007/03/nancy-p...
1814 Wilkes Co., GA
[WILKES COUNTY, GEORGIA] WILL BOOK "H H"--1810-1816 John Quearns to be buried at Smyrna Meeting House. To Margaret, wife of John Murphy, $300 John Wingfield, Thomas Lesley, Thomas Talbot, exe. Probated Jan. 8, 1816, Nathaniel Twining, Matthew Talbot, D. Creswell, Test.

The Anderson boys married Arnetts. Mary was given the same amount of money, but Margaret Murphy was given 6 times as much, so she may have been his full sister. Whoever Daniel was, he must have died. Daniel Arnett narried Sally Montgomery 14 Nov 1799 in Wilkes The Smyrna Methodist Church was first known as the Piney Woods Meeting House and may have been originally Quaker or founded by Quakers who had been kicked out of the Meeting for participating in war activities.. It has the distinction of being the second Methodist Church to be organized in Georgia. Services were held in a brush arbor prior to the construction of a building in 1790. The church was rebuilt in 1800 and 1878. John Querns was recorded as being from Maryland. So was John Spears.

His nephew Edward Arnett´s will was filed in both Abbeville SC and Wilkes County GA. Abbeville was part of the Old 96th District. I think it is possible that his father was the Edward ARnett living in Spartanburg but I have not seen the refernced property where John Spears and Esward Arnett ave adjacent property in Spartanburg. In 1790
I read that Catherine Quearns filed in Abbeville and that is closer to Union I believe.
Jhon Speer Spartenburgh, SC 1790
John Spiers Union, SC 1790
Robt Pollard Abbeville, SC 1790 (Pollards lived in Wilkes)
Jno Quce (John Quern?)Abbeville, SC 1790
Burwell Stephens Abbeville, SC 1790 are they related to Moses? an early settler of Wilkes
Cage Stephens Abbeville, SC 1790

Abbeville was not far from Augusta GA where they could cross the river and get over to Wilkes Co.

William Arnetts brother Samuel had a daughter Nancy who married William H.
I am looking for descendents of Maggie Florence Arnette Thompson, born Apr. 4, 1908, daughter of Neill and Fannie Dalrymple Arnette. She was born in the area of Jonesboro, N.C. She married J.C. Thompson between 1930-1935. His age at marriage is not known. She may have taught school in Robeson Co., St. Paul, N.C. for a few years. They had at least one daughter, born between 1930-1935, judging by the child's age, about 8 years old at the time of the mother's death. Maggie died Sept. 20, 1940 at Duke Hospital, Durham, N.C. and was buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery, St. Paul, N.C. She had Hodgkins's disease. The husband is known to have remarried after that. Older family members still living don't remember the name of the daughter.
If you have any information on descendents, it would be greatly appreciated.
Interesting that you mentioned both Arnette and Thompson on your query.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Achata

Carlie Arnette ( born 1892) married Pearlie Butler (born 1900) and had at least 5 sons and a daughter. Pearl's great-grandfather is my 3xgreat grandfather. Interested in finding out names of Pearl's children born after 1930 . Pearl's mother Julia's obit in 1949 says there were 11 grandchildren and, as far as we know, Pearl was an only child.... so I am missing the names of 5 children.
I have Albert, Clarence, Clyde, Gentry, Floyd, and Beatrice; born to Pearl and Carlie Arnette between 1918 and 1928. Any further info on this family?
