which Arnoult is your line descended from?? I believe that Rosedale burned after it had been turned into a restuarant.
I did find that the original homeplace Tchoupitoulas was located at where the Colonial Country Club is. Some of the old
trees that lined the drive were still there!

My great Uncle Henry Arnoult lived in Rosedale until the early 1970s. The house was moved there in back of his former residence which was at 402 Arnoult Road. In fact, my mom lived in 402 Arnoult Road as girl. As I child, I remember going to 402, but remember Rosedale much better as I was much older when my mother's uncle and his wife lived there. Henry Arnoult sold his Arnoult property to the Jefferson Parish Waterworks and Rosedale was moved to river batture and was to be remodelled and turn into a restaurant.
Unfotunately, that never occured. I was burned on the batture. I guess someone was sleeping there at night and smoking. I have a write up about in Historic Jefferson Parish by Betsy Swanson and can send you a copy if you would like.
Jack Schott

I am also a direct decendent. My parents moved to Washington DC shortly after WW II. My brothers and I are aware of the Family and the stores about Rosedale its general location and the extent of the original land grant. We along with other family members still pay taxes on some remaing portion of the property. We know that Rosedale was in use at least to the mid 60's. But that is about all. We often wonder if there are any picture of the house its contents or actual ancestors.""

I am also a direct descendant of Jean Eleanor Arnoult, his son Pierre Gervais Arnoult, his son Joseph Jules Zenon Arnoult, his son Louis Edgar Arnoult, his son Charles Sidney Francis Arnoult (my maternal grandfather), his daughter Nellie May Arnoult (my mother). You mentioned Rosedale Plantation. My great uncle Henry Arnoult move Rosedale from one site on the property to an area in back of a house at 402 Arnoult Road where my mother and her family lived. I am not sure of when he moved Rosedale but I am guessing it was sometimes during the mid 1960s. He used Rosedale as his main residence. In the late 1960s to early 1970s he sold the portion of his property to the Jefferson Parish waterworks. Richard Arnoult a cousin moved the house to the river batture and it was to be converted into a restaurant, but it burned. I guess vagrants were living in it. Rosedale is mentioned in the book "Historic Jefferson Parish" by Betsy Swanson. It is only a short write up of the history of Rosedale.

The Church is St. Arnaux. You can find a picture of the cathedral on Wikepedia as well as mention of St. Arnaux. There is also an Arnoult Park in France.

I am an direct Arnoult Descendant: Jean Baptiste Arnoult, Jean Arnout, Pierre Arnoult, Louise Arnoult, Gervaise Arnoult, Joseph Francois Arnoult & Anna Bourgeois, Marguerite Arnoult & James Acosta (My mother and father)Our ancestors fought in the war of 1812, the Civil War - the Napoleon Light Brigade in Kentucky, WW1 and WW2.

The plaque in honor of the Arnoult family and the Tchoupitoulas Plantation in on the median of Jefferson Highway in front of the Colonial Golf Coast.

There is a book on the History of Jefferson Parish that list the Arnoult history and two plantations that were in the family (there was actually three)Rosedale and Tchoupitoulas (painting suppose to be in the LSU Museum in Baton Rouge) (pictures in the book). It explains the family's misfortune in losing the plantations and land after the Civil War. The land was sold off in blocks due to the in ability to work the land profitably after the war.

I hope this helps and I wish I had more info. I am diligently trying to find out as much as I can for my sons heritage.

Caroline - look up the French family name Ärnauld de Andilly" I believe that is the origin of the name..I did find an obituary for a Judge Louis Arnould in New Orleans and the obit stated that the family descended from this ancient french lineage..The illustration was he spitting image of my grandfather Louis DeLille Arnoult, Jr. as often that it happens - there were different spellings of the name - Arnoult/Arnould; Arnault/Arnauld, here in New Orleans. The Young-Sanders center for Civil war study in LA has an index of all Confederate soldiers from LA in alphabetic order..Booths'Records , if you're interested..Keith Bernard

My parents remembered when there was a historical marker sign in the main highway infront. However, it was no longer there when we went. We toured the next plantation house past Col.Country Club. I wondered as I walked through it if
the Arnoult ancestors had visited there too. It was the home of the Fortier family I think. My great grandmother had
a copy of a family tree for the Arnoults. One of the things
that it said on it was that there was a "Saint Arnoult" that
lived in france in I think the 1400's that was part of the
family. I tried to look up a St.Arnoult. I did find a church
by that name in France, but so far, no info. on a person.
Have you ever known anything about it?
Thanks!
Caroline

I'm glad you got to see it...there's been local talk about tearing it down and building condos but that (for now) has been put off..I think that Colonial owed taxes or something, and certain people jumped on the opportunity..Quite a piece of land..I knew an older gentleman who remembered seeing an elderly Arnoult lady sitting on the porch when he was much younger..he recently died..I wanted to ask him more but he was too feeble. - keith

Thanks for sharing the info!!!!! I really do appreciate it!
I went to the place where the original Arnoult immigrant Jean E. Arnoult lived in the 1780's. It was Colonial Country
Club at that time. The house was gone. The old trees lining
the drive were still there. It had been called Tchoupitoulas
when he lived there. I haven't been back since Katrina.

I just bought a beautiful home there that has that name embedded in the stone walkway at the front of the house. The house is approx. 140 years old.
Thank you~ Hopefully, someone will know something!
Good Luck on all your searches~

I would love to hear about your line of the family!!! My email is gildent@msn.com . After several trips searching to New Orleans I finally found the original location of Tchoupituolas. It is currently a golf course. Some of the old trees that lined the drive are still there. Christian Arnoult moved to Memphis Tn. He was a cotton classer on front street. His daughter Camille was my great grandmother. She was a loving and family oriented person that hosted many events for friends and family at her home until she passed away in the 1970's. She was married to Memphis first electrical inspector. I would love to trade more info. with you !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arnoult family from France to New Orleans

Jean E.Arnoult (1736-1789) migrated from France to New Orleans. He married Marie Delille Dupart. Their son Pierre Gervais Arnoult (1799-1839) married Catherine DeLivaudais. This couple lived in New Orleans also. Their son Jean Baptiste Gervaise Arnoult was born in New Orleans in 1815. Jean Baptiste married Leontine Commagere. They had several children. One was my g-g-grandfather Christian F.Arnoult (1856-1921) he married Katherine Connell in New Orleans. The Arnoult Family home was called Tchoupitoulas in New Orleans. Does any of this fit with anyone elses Arnoult family out there??? Thanks
