I've been working on this line for over 20 years. The Arps that descend from Abednego Earp,Sr. most likely descend from a Thomas Earpe 1610 Nottinghamshire,ENG that died ca.1720 in Maryland,USA. There is some evidence that the name may have originated as Von or Van Earpe. The Earps were well established in Fairfax,VA, operating a famous tavern Earp's Corner,in the 1700s during the Revolution. It is landmark status and there is much written on the family.Several Earps after that time began migration to Wilkes,North Carolina. This is where the Abednego Earp, lived. His son Abednego Earp, Jr.along with related families of Gray and Grayson (among others) moved to the newly opened Indian lands in Monroe Co.,TN. in the mid 1820s. It was at this time that Abednego Earp, Jr. changed his name. It may have been for legal purposes but he also changed his first name to Benjamin from Abednego. I don't believe Abednego Sr. knew that his son's name was changed because his will written in 1843 mentions son Abednego. Many of the Arps that lived in Monroe Co.,TN migrated to Northern Ga, Fannin,Union and Gilmer Counties in the mid 1800s,as well as Polk Co.,TN and Cherokee Co.,NC. I have also found a line of Arp that came to the USA during the late 1800s early 1900s from Germany. These Arps settled mainly in Iowa and spread from there. They are not related to the Thomas/ Abednego Earp/Arp line. They are the only other line of Arps other than the ones from Abednego Earp,Jr./Benjamin Arp that I have located in the USA.
