Arp changed from Earp in Texas

My family says that our family name "Arp" was originally "Earp" and that one of my great grandparents changed it.... to correct the pronounciation of it as well as to escape the "celebrity" of the name. I am told that we are descendants of one of Wyatt Earp's brothers but my family tree is rough. Most of the family historians have passed and papers have been lost. I am trying to create a family tree for my son and would love any information regarding "Arp vs. Earp in Texas".
