Unfortunately, the above Arp family (Claus & Greta Arp & children, including daughter Augusta) emmigrated from Germany (Schweig-Holstein) in the 1880s, more than 20 years AFTER your James Reuben Arp in Armstrong Co, PA. Per the 1880 Census, the parents of James Arp were born in PA, as was James himself (he was born about 1818 in PA). Do you know where your Arps originated? Were they from Schweig-Holstein?

I see you've met my Aunt Louise. Yes my dad was Frederick Hermann..

I've sent Eveni's query to my dad's brothers and sisters so that one of them can get ahold of my grandfather, who's in the States somewhere on a very extended 'holiday'. I'll let you know what I find out.

A few years ago, one of my aunts sent me a package full of pedigree and family group chart things. I couldn't find any information about the Harder line (nothing past Maria and Ben, sorry) but if you have any other questions about this line, I'll have a look to see what else is in there.

All the best with the rest of your research.

Ma le faaaloalo lava

Lillian

Hi there

Just wondering if you're still looking for this information. Mumu was my great grandfather...and his son (my grandfather) speaks a lot about the Chinese workers he grew up around.

Your mother was born a year after my grandfather was born. It's likely that they knew each other.

If you're still keen, please reply to this and I'll contact my grandfather (and other family members) for more information.

Cheers

Arp: Village of Steine, Germany to Tama County, Iowa

I am a great granddaughter of a lady named Anna Arp. She immigrated in 1887 to the United States from the Village of Steine, near Kiel or Rosendorf, Germany, at the age of 12 and settled in Dysart, Iowa. Her parents, Henrick and Bertha (Schoel) Arp, immigrated in 1893 to Tama County, Iowa. Henrick and Bertha had a large family of 11 children.
I have quite a bit of info. about this family after they settled in Iowa but not too much on when they lived in Germany.
Also am trying to find a connection to a Mr. and Mrs. Chris Wendorf (believe the wife is Bertha Schoel's sister) and trying to prove that Henrick's brothers' name was Christian Arp (Christian's wife: Lena).
Anna Marie Arp married an August Juergen Ketelsen from Schleiswig-Holstein, Germany.

If interested in comparing notes, please contact me. Thanks!
Hi, I only have one lady named Bertha Schoel in my genealogy research. She was my gr-gr grandmother. I know she came from Schleswig-Holstein, Germany and married Henrick Arp. That's all I know, can't find anything else after looking for years.
Bertha may have had a sister who married a Chris Wendorf or Wellendorf....but that, too, is speculation. My gr-grandmother, Anna, (Bertha's daughter) immigrated to US at 12 years of age with her uncle and aunt, the Wendorf's. I'm thinking this Mrs. Wendorf could be Bertha's sister but then she also could have been Henrick's sister...so no conclusion.
Thanks for replying...D. Badker

There were Arps on a Qualla Boundary census I came across. However that means they had land there and could have been either Cherokee or squatters.

There is Creek blood in the Presley side of family. A few of them were rejected from Cherokee rolls for being Creek Indian.

Hi, Just came across your post. I am one of the Arp's from Tennessee. I've heard that Arp/Earp story myself, but so far have yet to find the Earp connection when tracing my family tree. My grandfather is George Washington Arp (Washie) buried at Kitchens Cemetary. Few people seem to know he was married twice and seems only descendants of his 2nd marriage are known to family historians.

Would like to talk with any of the Arp's of TN. Would also like to know if its true what I always was told growing up" "If you've seen one Arp man, you've seen them all." Anyone else heard that one?

Hi Matt,

I've have been told some sketchy info that our family was descended from a Hans Arp from Kiel and Strasburg. Correct me if I am wrong, but Strasburg originally was a part of Germany and later became part of France. (Hence why the family sometimes claims French heritage when truly we are German Jews.) A friend helped me locate a passenger list of 125 Arp's that escaped the Nazis and fled to America.

Write me!

Looking for information, especially the burial site, on Benjamin Arp, who served in Co. I, 81st Pa. Vol. Inf. during the Civil War. Story has it that he was captured by the Confederates, agreed to join their army, and first chance he had he left back to Union lines. Researching the men of the 81st Pa. Any type of help would be very appreciated.

Janice,

I am relatively new to this myself. However,
I do know that my father's name is Alonzo Arp
and this is the only Alonzo Arp I have been able
to find. I have tracked him from Joshua Earp
(1706-1771) to Alonzo Arp (1911- ?). He was
married to Rada Elizabeth Ross in 1930 and she
died in 1931. Timewise that fits with when my
mother met Alonzo Arp in Tuscumbia, Alabama
in 1936/1937. The following names are what
I have found.

Hi Deb,

I know how frustrating it is. I struggled for several years until I lucked upon a gentleman, Brian Lord, in the correct leg of the Arp family who had accomplished a lot already. Taking what he had done and going from there, I have found my Arp link --- and a new sister.

However, my Arp link actually was adapted from the name Earp. Somewhere around 1800 my ancestor dropped the "e" and made the name Arp. But, from that I have found that I am a distant cousin of the lawman, Wyatt Earp. Genealogy is interesting.

I wish you the best of luck --- and lots of fun in the searching. I have recently found a free software download for a great Genealogy Famiy Tree building software package. I have started using it to put all my info into one place in a more organized manner. The URL for that download page is:
http://aft.ancestry.com/aftexec?htx=install&r=&rsn=1

Once again, good luck.

God bless, have a wonderful day,

Bill Gray
billdory@pacbell.net

Hans Arp

I'm looking for any information about Hans Arp. He is my great great grandfather. I know he had a daughter named Emma Arp who married Gilbert Milton Fisher (my great grandparents). I know the family lived in Wheatland, IA around 1883 as according to her newspaper obit, Emma Arp was born in Wheatland, IA March 3, 1883 and was educated in the Wheatland schools. The newspaper article states she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Arp. According to the 1915 US Federal Census he was living in Wilton Junction otherwise known as Wilton which is located in Muscatine Co., IA. At that point he was retired, widowed. It states he was born in Germany and so were his parents and his religion was German Lutheran. His daughter Emma also lived there with her husband and family before moving to Estherville, IA. When the next census took place around 1930, he was no longer listed. I'm speculating he died, as was 74 years of age at the 1915 census. Hans also arrived in the US around 1866 and he was born abt 1841. I would greatly appreciate any help, on finding information about him such as who his wife was, his parents were, and any other children.
