I am researching the Arpin family and discovered that my gggrandfather THOMAS JOHN ARPIN, came to South Africa in 1833 aboard the ship the BRITANNIA. He was sent here by the "FRIENDS OF THE CHILDREN SOCIETY" which was formed by the British Government in the early 1800's, supposedly to give the poor a better chance in life, he was a boy of 13. I have discovered that he claims to have been born in Guildford Street, London, but there is no mention of a Mother or Father or any Siblings.
Should anyone have any information on him or the Society, I would appreciate your help. Thank You.
