I get a better sense now of where you fit in. thanks. Our branches split off quite a ways back. I checked the info that I have and unfortunatley I don't even have your Antoine Arpin listed. I generally don't go much further than the first, and possibly the second generation (children and grandchildren) of my non-direct lines. I think that your Antoine ends up in the third generation. when I have the time I can try combing through my physical files in case the info is there but jsut that I didn't take note of it becasue of the generatinal distance.

Sorry I couldn't help you more. Have you tried looking for a death listing for Antoine under the name Poitevin or Poitvin, the dit name? The other possibility might be that as he was probably baptized with several first names (as was the tradition in the French-Canadian Roman-Catholic church, his death record may not appear unde the name Antoine. You might have to confirm his identity thru his wife's name, and in her case I believe that Lariviere is the dit name (Chapdelaine can also be spelt Chappedelaine, with the final "ai" sometimes replace with "ei" as it hase the same sound when pronounced in French. there are also plenty of variations on the spelling: Chapdelaon, Chapedelaine, Chapdelene, Chapoleleine, Chapdeleine,Chapedeleine, Chadelaigne, Chapdeleigne, Capdelaine or Chapdelaine) Besides the St-Ours records, I'd also check records for Contrecoeur and Sorel (at some point in Time Sorel becomes affiliated and amalgamated with a neighboring town called Tracy.)

I had trouble locating and identifying exactly who his father is in my notes because for that generation I have 4 possible brothers that it could be as all 5 have Rene in their given names:

Rene Philippe, b. March 23 1766 in St-Ours, QC, m. 1786 Sorel, QC Marie Angelique Belette (Blet / Blette / Blais / Bellet)

Antoine Rene, b. Oct 27 1756 contrecoeur, QC, m. Oct 5 1778 Vercheres, QC Marie Louise Hudon dit Beaulieu

Joseph (this one probably also has additinal given names that I don't know of), b. July 10, 1749 Contrecoeur, QC, m. Oct 14 1771 Contrecoeur Marie Marguerite Perron

Rene, b. March 29, 1741 Contrecoeur, QC, d. May 2, 1741 St-Ours, QC
