Edward Arrell

Edward Arrell was my great great grandfather. Prior to his marriage to my Great great grandmother, Nancy Arrell, his surname was Happer. Why he changed his last name to Arrell is something I know nothing about.

Edward Arrell is the father of my great grandfather, Samuel Happer Arrell. Samuel Happer Arrell and his wife Mary Eva Arrell were the parents of my grandfather, James Lee Arrell, who along with Annie Marie Holderman were the parents of my father, Samuel D. Arrell, who passed away in Abilene, Texas on December 25,2009.

I would enjoy hearing from anyone who might have additional family information, especially why my great grandfather changed his surname from Happer to Arrell.

Samuel R, Arrell

Glendale, Colorado 80247

Re: Arrell or Reisch

Reisch Arrell was the brother to my great-grandfather Samuel Happer Arrell and his wife Mary Eva (Egge) Arrell. His Brothers were Dell B. Arrell and James Lee Arrell, who was my grandfather. I don't really know anything at all about Reisch. I know his brother Dell B. Arrell was in the navy, was married to a french woman and had a daughter and that Dell was in the navy and died during world war 1. Prior to that I know Dell was a mail carrier around the turn of the century in Moline, Illinois.

My grandfather was James Lee Arrell. I know he went to stanford university and was on the rugby team. I know that he was an oil well driller and spent a good portion of his life traveling as I have aunts and uncles born in wyoming, montana and my father, Samuel D. Arrell, was born in Craig, Colorado on July 10, 1928. My great-grandfather, Samuel Happer Arrell, died and was buried in Craig Colorado on December 29,1928. His wife, Mary Eva Arrell, died during childbirth and was buried along with her infant daughter in Guthrie Oklahoma sometime in 1903.

I realize you asked for information about reisch arrell, but I really don't know anything about him. I hope this information will help you in your search and if you do find out anything about him, I would enjoy hearing the information.

Hello, Jim McIntyre
My name is Joe L Smith. My mother was a Arrell.

I found a Edward Arrell and William Arrell that came to North America in 1774. They traveled from Londonderry (Derry) Ireland to Pennsylvania U. S. A.

All records indicate that they were borne in Londonderry (Derry) Northern Ireland.

Edward Arrell wife named Sarah

I found out that Edward was in the American Revolution.

Regards
Joe L Smith
hummingbird102jan@att.net

These names seem so close to my family, that I wonder if we are talking about the same one.

My father is Alexander Davidson, b 1917 in New Jersey, USA, his father was William James Davidson, b 1879 in Tamlaghtduff, Bellaghy, Londonderry. William James' father and mother were (per birth certificate) William Davidson and Elizabeth, formerly McQuillan. Present at birth was Matilda McQuillan. This family later moved to Glasgow, Scotland where they were in the 1901 census. Based on the census, Elizabeth McQuillan Davidson was born about 1857 in Ireland. All of William and Elizabeth's children were born in Ireland, so that would be thru about 1894.

Sorry that's all I have on him but was interested in him since he was a witness to my ancestors wedding.

Yes, I know what you mean about erros. I have been corresponding with two second cousins re the Arrells and one of them contacted Dr. Rob Arrol who edited the book. He still has a couple of copies and we are ordering two. There is another book which I have requestion on InterLibrary Loan called the Earls and Arrells in Ireland and the United States. Haven't received it yet, so don't know if it's as full of errors.

I've had the same questions about children being born between 1853 and 1864. I think I probably have the same info you have, but thanks.

if you would like to give me your name and email address, i can send you a "downline" which i have contracted information from the "arroll" book. this book is so full of errors (especially on our "arrell" line which came to canada) i can't begin to tell you!!!! the author is dead and i contacted someone in australia who is supposed to be in charge of this book but she is not interested in any updates or corrections....... our arrells do come from county derry originally as well. i have our john arrell b. 1805 back to cabragh or castledawson. they have conveniently left off your john duncan arrell (earl) completely .....parents married in 1853 he is born in 1859 and the first child they name is born 1861 ... i am sure there might have been a few more between your john duncan and martha b. 1861. in any case, send me your email ... i am barbara.parkinson@rogers.com in mississauga (suburb of toronto) ontario. blessings, barbara

Laura,
I just found your post and am wondering if we might be Arrell relations. My gg-uncle was John Duncan Arrell, son of Henry Arrell and Matilda MacQuillan of the Castledawson area. John D. Arrell (Earle in US) came to the US in 1874 and settled in South Dakota. He married Elizabeth Chesney of Bellaghy, Co. Derry, in 1887. Would love to know if we might be connected.

Barb Walker

Hi George,

You are correct that we have been in touch, and as of yet I'm still no further in my quest for the Arrells of Rocktown Castledawson. Mum Isobel Arrell (94) has not been to well since christmas so my avenue there has been closed as she is very tired but her mind still active. I did contact my cousin in Castledawson Margaret Greer and her daughter Barbara. Mums Brother Robert passed away early this year he emigrated to America and lived somewere in Wyhoming. We are still looking forward to popping over to trace the roots but while Mum is fragile we have put things on hold.

thank you for your concieration once again.

Kindest Regards Bill Harrison.

Hello Kelly?

Matilda Arrell was the daughter of John Arrell and Jane Campbell of Rocktown, County Derry. James McQuillan was the son of John McQuillan, a weaver from Bellaghy, Derry. Matilda and James married on June 8, 1853 at the Curran Presbyterian Church in Derry. Matilda's brother Henry married a Matilda McQuillan a few months later at the Castledawson Presbyterian Church.

I am doing a fair bit of research into the families of this part of Derry.

John Duncan Arrell was born on June 22, 1859 in County Derry, N. Ireland. He came to the US and married my great aunt, Elizabeth Agnes Chesney, (born April 10, 1868, in Bellaghy, Co. Derry, N. Ireland) in Milton, Rock Co., Wisconsin on Mar. 19, 1887. When he came to the US he changed his last name to Earl. His father was Henry Arrell (b. 1819) and mother was Matilda McQuillan (b. 1834), both born in Ireland. I recently came across a book called "The Arrol, Arroll, and Arrell families" by John Arrol. It was published in 1994. I would like to obtain a copy of this book or more information about the Arrells born in the area of Bellaghy, Co. Derry, N. Ireland. Thank you!

Neely, Marton, Godwin, Wolfe, Parrish, Arrell

I’m looking for information on Neely’s in Texas.
I have a David Philip Neely and I think he died in northern Texas – possibly in the Grayson County area sometime after 1909.
He married Mary Marton probably before 1901.
Their children were:
*Charles Wesley Thomas Neely, b. 5/6/1901, Snow Hill, Collin County, TX; d. 6/19/1977, Sweet Home, Linn County, OR
*Clara Neely Wolfe, b. after 1903. Believe she lived in Lubbock TX on Sixth St. and Baylor St.
*David C. Neely, b. after 1905. He married Alta Unknown. Their children were: Perry Neely, Roy Glen Neely
*Hazel Neely Parrish, b. aft 1906.
*Goldie Neely, b. aft 1908.

After David Philip Neely died Mary Marton Neely married Unknown Godwin.
Their children were:
*Clint Godwin, b. after 1910.
*Cleo Godwin, b. after 1912.

All children were raised by Godwin so I’m assuming David Philip Neely died.

Charles Wesley Thomas Neely married Jessie Whitworth 5/1/1920. Their children were:
*Roy Thomas Neely, b. 2/9/1921, Dennison, Grayson County, TX.
*David Hiram Neely, b. 7/25/23, Alba, Wood County, TX.
*Sybil Nadine Neely Arrell, b. 7/29/1926, Alba, Wood County, TX. Married Virgil Arrell, born in Coos County, OR (father was Emmitt Arrell).
*Lena Mavis Neely, b. 4/7/1929, d. 1933.
*Patsy Guerlane Neely McKinney, b. 6/12/1931, Plainview, Hale County, TX.
*Lila Charlene Neely Wolgamott, b. 2/23/1934, Alba, Wood County, TX.
*Broderick NMN Neely, b. 7/14/1941, El Paso, TX.

I’m desperate for information on the Neely side of the family. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Jessie
The Earl and Arrell Families from Ireland to North America by James S. Hannum, M.D. traces Edward Arrell and his wife Sarah Breading (in the DAR Library in Washington D.C.) I am descended from his brother David Arrell who was a Revolutionary War Hero (but not the David Arrell from Alexandria, Va.who was in George Washington's Masonic Lodge). He had 8 children - No. 5 Margaret married Samuel Caldwell who is my grandmother's great grandfather. I am still looking for his wife.

Arrells

Hi - my name is Jim McIntyre from Londonderry, (Derry). My wifes' late grandfather was Thomas Arrell who resided at Rowansgift House, Drumlamph, Castledawson, Co.Londonderry N Ireland. This address is on the back road between Castledawson and Knockloughrin which ties in with the areas you mentioned. Please note that the County of the Derry was renamed County Londonderry in the late 19th Century. My wifes' father was called Allen Arrell and he several brothers who stayed on in Castledawson, David & Tommy were the only two I ever met and unfortunately both are now deceased.
However their sister, Bella Arrell, is still alive and I know she never married and still lives in Castledawson. I don't know her address but it is a very small town half way between where I live and Belfast, which I'm sure you have heard of. Most of the Arrells are buried in the Church of Ireland Cemetery beside the Church in Castledawson, including my wifes' father.
There is a genealogy office in Armagh who carry out searches for relatives for a small fee, unless you visit them yourself and do the research. It is very important to have parents names, any known dates of birth and believe it or not, what job they did, e.g. minister, clerk, blacksmith, etc., I will try to get the email address of genealogy office in Armagh or at least their website, if they have one, or the postal address. Please give me a few days.

Regards

Jim McIntyre

YES! I'm VERY interested in any information relating to the Arrell name. My uncle lives in Lover, PA (close to Charleroi). His house was built in the 1740's (?) by Edward Arrell. I know that his wife's name was Sarah and they had a few children. They are both burried in the Mingo Creek cemetary about 10 miles from my uncle's home. My family and I took a trip up there last summer and saw the gravesite. The house is unbelievable! (and slightly haunted). We got to see the quarry where the HUGE stones came from to build this house. My uncle, while doing some remodelling, found the original deed for the property inside one of the walls along with some VERY old books!
We know from records that Edward came from County Derry, Ireland and we now know that the adress was Cabragh, Knockcloughrin, Castledawson. I have a few more Arrell names from the 1840 in Ireland and I would love to know if there is a relation: Alexander, Henry, James, John and William, allin Castledawson.
Any information you have would be fantastic!!!!

Hi, my wife Shirleys' maiden name is Arrell and her father Allen Arrell was from just outside Castledawson, Co Derry. He moved from there to Belfast during WW11 to work in the shipyard, (where they built the Titanic!). There are still Arrells in and around Castledawson.

You can contact me if you want any further information.
