Detail correction, and a question.

1. Photo of grave marker at findagrave dot com shows it gives his rank as "Pvt" (not Cpl). See below.

2. Does anyone know how the family pronounced and/or pronounces the given name "Rice" and its origin? E.g., did or does it sound like "Reese" or like the grain? Thanks.

Rice Arrendale
Birth: unknown
Death: unknown

Georgia Pvt. Co. D 1 Regt. Ga. Inf.
Rice Arrendale is my Great Great Grandfather. I visited his grave today. It is in a small family cemetery in Dahlonega GA (Arrendale Family Cemetery.) He was a Private in Company D in the 1st Regiment GA Infantry in the Confederate States Army. His son August M. Arrendale is also buried there along with approximately 11 other graves (unmarked.) The cemetary is in the Auraria community in Dahlonega off Carlton Seitz road.
Michele F. Seay (05seays@gmail.com)

Thank you!

Brittany
Re: Arrendale Family

The Arendales in Pickens County, Alabama are all from Spartansburg SC if they were not born in Pickens County. John L. Arendale was born in SC in 1810. I do not have his death date or burial. He did have lots of farm land in Pickens County near the other Arendales. He did marry Ophelia Branch, my ggrand aunt. When John died, Ophelia married Nathan B. Arendale who was John's uncle (I believe). Richard A. Arendale 177-1839 was Nathan's father. Mary Polly Blackwell 1795-1855 was Nathan's mother. Nathan and Ophelia had a daughter, Sinthia Elizabeth Arendale who married Ophelia's younger brother, Thomas Benjamin Branch, my gggrandfather.

John L. and many of the Arendales migrated from Spartansburg, SC to Chickasaw County, MS and show there in the 1850 census. They moved to Pickens County between 1853 and 1856.

Nathan was the administrator of John L.'s will. If you would like further information email me at drbabs@starstream.net

Barbara Branch

I am researching a John Arendale born in SC and died in Pickens CO. AL. There is a Richard Arendale buried in Pickens Co. Al. He was born 1777 and died 1836. He was married to Mary Blackwell. There is also a Nathan Arendale buried in the same cemetary. He married Ophelia Branch in 1865. I had always assumed the Arendales came from Spartanburg Co. SC. I would appreciate any information about John Arendale you would share with me. Thanks.
Patricia Hicks

There are a number of arrendales around clarksville that are your relatives. They just had an arrendale reunion on 10 June, and have it each year. You might contact a Joan Arrendale Peck in Green Cove Springs, Fla. I have a long list of arrendale names, but don't have them linked yet. I live in corpus christi and just started on the family tree. I can tell you Thomas Arrendale came into the clarksville area in about 1730. He would probably be Franks grandfather. Good luck

Your message is so old and I don't know why I had not
seen before now. Stella Bell Arrendale was born in
Hiawassee, Georgia. Her father was William Arrendale and
her mother was MaryAnn Henson. Her sister name which
is listed in the 1900 Census was Elza. Stella married a
Benefield and Elza married a Wood. William Arrendale was
my GGGrandfather and Stella had many Half-brothers and
sisters, my grandfather Rufus being one. These girls never
knew their father as he was quite old when he married Mary
Ann. He died in 1900. Yes they lived in Habersham Co.
Georgia, Batesville Township and 1930 Census they a #48
Sheet #3B. Please contact me if you receive this.
Belinda

I too have a slight connection to the family found in Rabun County, Ga. Melberry Arrendale/Arnold married a Jacob Gable according to Rabun C. Marriage records. The Arrendale name was spelled in so many various ways! I am told that Melberry was the only sister to Rice, and his two brothers. Can someone perhaps confirm this? We find Melberry and Jacob Gable in the census records of Rabun County. They had several Gable offsprings, and am trying to see if anyone else may have info on these Gable children. I am certain that some of the Gable and Arrendales also married later. Happy to share what I have.
Judy
Hello...I am the 25 year old Grandson of Charles Arrendale who died in Jan. 1976- Although he passed before I was born, I vaguely recall (at the age of 2 or 3) meeting a woman who was known as "Grandma Goose" was this Stella Arrendale who died in May of 1982? If this is the same woman, I believe she is my G-grandmother. However, I don't have any information on her husband....is this Grady? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!

Rufus was
married twice. His first wife was Louisa and his 2nd wife was
Anna. My mother had many Half brothers and sisters, and
many brothers and sisters. I think if any would be related to
your father it would be the first family. Several of the
children migrated to the Akron-Canton area in the 30's and 40's for work in the tire companies etc. If you think I could
be of help, please contact me.

I have information on a Joel Arrendale possibly born in
the Spartansburg District of South Carolina in1825. His
Father was Thomas Arrendale born same in1791. His mother
was Margaret Peggy LeFever (or Sarah) born same about
1805 or 1817. I have conflicting info on her. They migrated
to the Tallulah District (Rabun Co.), Georgia around 1825.
That is the first record of the family in Georgia. His brothers
were John born1817-died1823, Rice born 1820, William born
1830 and others I have info. Joel, Rice, William were in the
California Gold Rush. Could this be your Joel
