I am writing this in English so that everyone out there can understand it.
As a reply to Nelson Arroyo attempting to verify the jewish ancestry of the name Arroyo, well...it's true.
My father is Hector Arroyo, from Ponce, Puerto Rico. Although I've found it next to impossible to trace his family tree outside of the island, clearly they are of jewish (sephardic) descent. Apart from the so-called "jewish look", which according to my jewish friend both I and my father have, one must take into account that during the time of the inquisition back in Spain, most jewish converts chose either the names of localities (i.e. Toledano), geographical names (i.e. Arroyo), or the names of saints, upon conversion.
My uncle is the Director of EU archives for the spanish goverment (my mother is Spanish) and both our attempts at finding the roots of my father's family tree came to naught. Clearly, birth of jews are not the kind of records that local parishes kept, and more than likely the documents kept by the jews were destroyed in the late 1400's.
