so exciting to hear from you so quickly. Sorry you had to wait 30 years to hear from this side of the family! I look forward to learning about my family. Archie was quite the character and had many interesting skills that he passed along through his genes. I will alert my cousin Dave Burton (Cynthia's son) to this. You may hear from him also. Grandpa Archie lived with his family for a few years in his older years. Last year a few of us got together to share stories and artistic gifts we had from him (paintings, engravings, inlaid woodworking etc. ) He made me a doll house when I was 4 yo (now 65 yo) that was patterned after their home and made all the furniture also. My son who is a wood worker has it now. Many thanks.

I am so glad to hear from someone from my grandmother's side. I have two water colors that your grandfather gave to his sister, my grandmother Melina Marie Arsenault. If you go on the cassidy family tree you will see a portrait of Joseph J.G. Arsenault. The oil portrait started to fade so my mother enhanced it by painting over it.Not the thing to do.) this is my grandfather, Arsen aka Archie or Archibald and grandmother Mimi (Gaudet) Arsenault. My dad was Raymond Arsenault b. 6/25/14 in Springfield Ma, d. 7/17/77 Rochester NY. He had 3 children, all living, and we all had 3 children. His sister Cynthia had 4 children, 2 deceased. I am looking for help obtaining some additional info if possible regarding my maternal great-great grandmother specifically. I have really come to a wall at this point.

The name of my great-great grandmother - Mary/Marie Blanche Bernard (1871(PEI?)-1950(? - New Brunswick)).

Her parents, father = Joseph Bernard (Born PEI - parents Rufin Bernard & Suzanne - this is what I have been told by family) & her mother = Marie Arsenault (no other info).

She married Wilfred LeBlanc on Aug 18, 1889 in St. Paul de Kent. Wilfred's info: born 1868 New Brunswick, died 1956 New Brunswick & his parents are Thadee LeBlanc & Domithilde Johnson).

Wilfred & Blanche had my great grandmother Azelia (aka Zelia LeBlanc - 1897 St. Marie de Kent - 1975 Moncton New Brunswick).

There has been an ongoing family discussion Blanche or her mother was a full blooded indian. Unsure on this information.

Any help with this would be VERY appreciated :)

If it helps, I have and I can email a picture of Blanche and Wilfred. Also, a copy of a eulogy supposedly of Blanche's father I believe (Joseph Bernard). I cannot read it for it is all in French, but I can connect the dots of the mentioned names.

No Arsenaults that lived in PEI changed their name from Arsenault to Arnold. But some who emigrated to the USA did change. In some cases it was imposed on them. For some, it was voluntary to better intergrate in the anglophone society and easier to find a job.

Does anyone know why this is each their 2nd Marrage? I have been wondering about that. I would think it would have been somewhat scandalous for the time, that is unless someone passes away or something.

The marriage certificate (which could be incorrect) lists his birthplace in New Brunswick. It lists John's parents as - Moses Aresenault & Seraphie Gallant. Are these the right folks?

If you can shed some light on this. I would appreciate it :)

Need Help Understanding a Number of Name Changes

There is one thing puzzling me.

In the 1900's my Great Grandparents changed their names from Arsenault to Arnold then back to Arsenault.

In the 1930's My Grandmother changed the names of herself, my dad and my aunt from Arsenault to Arnold back to Arsenault.

In the 1950's my Grandfather Legally Changed his and his 2nd wifes name from Arsenault to Arnold. They kept it at Arnold.

Would anyone happen to know why all the name changes back and forth???

He married (1) Geneviève Léger 22 Jan 1856 in Bouctouche, NB. She was born 10 May 1836 in Bouctouche, NB, and died 30 Jun 1915 in Sainte-Marie de Kent, NB. She was the daughter of Raphaël Léger and Appollonie Jaillet.

2. Pierre Bastarache, born 04 Oct 1795 in Bouctouche, NB; died 31 Mar 1879 in Sainte-Marie de Kent, NB. He was the son of Joseph Bastarache and Marie-Madeleine Girouard. Antoine and Louise married at the Magdalen Islands, Québec, 1780, NOT Restigouche! (as Denis Savard has it). This couple were nowhere near Restigouche or the Baie des-Chaleurs. Reasons for that: Antoine left Miquelon on a sloop with relatives in October 1767 (after the census there) going first to Cocagne, New Brunswick, then on to Île St-Jean. Joseph & Marguerite Boudrot, Louise's parents, went to Île St-Jean first, then were at the Islands by at least 1776, where their oldest daughter Marie married her second cousin François Boudrot, son of François & Jeanne Landry (proved by marriage dispensations). So this branch of the Boudrot family was ALREADY at the Magdalens by that time. Louise had to thus be married there as well, which to me makes more sense, after studying these families for over 25 years. Regards, Denis Boudreau.
