from page 7, newspaper, "Scranton Republican" : "Charles Art, one of the oldest residents of this side, died at his home on Birch Street yesterday morning. The deceased was a man of many good qualities and was respected by all who knew him. He was born in Prussia, Germany, in 1820, leaving him 74 years of age. He left his home and came to this country in 1840, and settled in Scranton, or Slocum Hollow, as it was then known. Mr. Art is survived by a wife and six children. They are: Mrs. John Hoffman, Mrs. Peter P. Neuls, Misses Lena and Yetta, and Peter and Henry of New York. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows Rebbecca Lodge. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon. Interment will be made in the Pittston Avenue Cemetery."
