Darlene, hopefully, this email in response to the message that you posted three years ago concerning Dr. Daniel D. ARTER, his wives, and the family Bible, will still reach you.
1) I have photo copies of the original ARTER Bible, now on display in the Cairo Library. They were taken and emailed me by another Daniel ARTER descendent, i.e., someone descended from Laura ARTER RITTENHOUSE, one of Daniel and Millie ARTER's daughters. I also have a copy of the ARTER Bible transcription printed in the 1988 issue of the SAGA.
2) Daniel was divorced from his first wife Mary JARRETT--not from his second wife, Milly MOYER--after he moved west (i.e., to Illinois) and Mary remained in PA. I believe the statement in the SAGA is an error in the transcription of the ARTER Bible entry.
3) Although Milly had already given birth to three of their children, Daniel's divorce from Mary was not final until October 1837, not long before he and Millie were legally married, according to the IL Archives Marriage Data Base and to the ARTER Bible entry. (I have a photocopy of the original 1837 Daniel and Mary ARTER divorce degree that I ordered from the Union County, IL, Recorder.)
Although I have seen NO documentation of proof, I have read that Millie ARTER died after many years of marriage to Daniel; subsequently, Daniel married Millie's sister, Mary.
