I, too, have wondered about the national origin of the "Arterburn" name ever since "Arterburn Cousins" was first published. I've done some local research (Monroe County, Ky) on Elzia and Elizabeth Douglass Arterburn--my great great grandparents, but have never tackled the big "ultimate origins question."

Too bad we don't have an Arterburn DNA Project going, whereby we could compare Y-chromosomes with the Scottish Otterburns, the Austrian Arthabers, etc.
