Who was looking for . . .?

About 3-4 years ago, someone was looking for Roy Wesley Arthur. None of the e-mail addresses given were valid and there were a couple of different names used. However, if that person will contact me at threeguineas@aim.com with a valid e-mail address, and their actual name and WHY they want information about Roy (one of the postings stated that "she" was searching for her boyfriend's father), I have some information for them.

I am looking for the descendents of William (Peake) Arthur - born Nov 25 1880 in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, UK. He married a Nan Rose, daughter of Dr Frederick Rose of Formby, UK. I believe she married a James Oliver Pease.

Her daughters were called Olivia & Debbie & two of her grandchildren (Will's gt.grand-daughters)were Hopey Crolius and Susannah.
William's first wife, Nan, passed away and Will eventually married again to a lady named Katrine Perkins.

I am currently looking at a copy of William Arthur's book "Fore & Aft"

Can anyone relate to my William? He was the youngest of 12 children - all born in Wisbech. My husband's gt.gt grandfather, Thomas William, was William's eldest brother.

James Arthur

I am looking for Information on James Arthur born either July 16, 1854 In Way Burg, England or July 18, 1855 In Wade Bridge, England We have no Information going back beond him. No mention of any Family. He married Merry Elen Casto of Glendell Montana. He never gave anyone the same information on where he was born. We don't even know if James Arthur was his real name, and we have no knowledge of a middle name. We think he traveled through Cannada and down to Montana then to Fort Bridger, Wyoming. He was a VERY good story teller. It's a big family mistery about his past.

I just signed up for Ancestry, finally. Posted my gedcom family tree file. Just thought I'd pop a note out here in case it triggered anything from anyone. I am researching the Arthur Family from the Reading, Pa area (also, Muncy, Lycoming County) and any connections I can find. Other names in the tree are Darlington, Petri (Petree, Peterick, Petry), Dahinden and Moyer.
I'd like ot send you a link to my tree, but I am not sure how to do that right now. Thanks.
steve

Rev. War ARTHURS, How Many are there???

I am curious as to how many documented John Arthur soldiers there were in the Rev. War? There would seem to have been quite a few named as Rev. War soldiers according to many postings. I have found only two, one in Bedford Va. and one in Pa.that I can find actual certificates and copies of the pension requests. Will anyone with known John Arthur REV WAR ancestors please post this information? Names and DATES would be very nice information to have posted.Thanks.

Arthur Graves

I am going to go about this a different way. I have been going and photographing cemeteries in hopes of finding Arthurs. I am going to list names and dates that I got from the arthurs that I found, in hopes that someone will be able to match them up with their relatives.

Timber Ridge Cemetery - Webster Co., Mo.

1. Charles R. Arthur 9-20-1874 12-8-1956
Wran L. Arthur 3-7-1878 8-2-1953
(Wran was Charles wife)
2. Barbara Arthur 2-26-1935
(daughter of Ruth & Gene Arthur)
3. ? Arthur
(infant son of W.B. & A.B.)

I was told that alot of "my" Arthur family was buried there. These are all that I found that were readable, there were quite a few unmarked (stones). I contacted the church and they have no record of the graves, so Im at a stand still on this cemetery. ( I photographed the whole cemetery and have all names that I could make out.)

Greenlawn North Cemetery - Springfield, Greene Co., Mo.

1.William Franklin Arthur d) 3-29-42
2. William Arthur d) 12-17-1936 age 26
3. Ada C. Arthur d) 9-27-1975
(Ada was W. F. Arthurs wife)- I am assuming that the William buried there was also related.
4. Vinie Arthur d) 1-9-1972
(Vinie was Ollies wife)
5. Ollie Arthur d) 12-12-1998
6. Wm. C. Arthur d) 1-25-1949
7. Marquete Arthur d) 4-24-1935
8. Laura L. Arthur (Rench) d) 9-9-1975
9. Oscar Arthur d) 6-25-1967
10. Myrtle Pearl Arthur d) 3-11-1979
11. Loyd Arthur d) 4-18-1989
12. John Wm. Arthur d) 7-24-1986
13. Hubert Franklin Arthur d)
14. Maude A. Arthur d) 9-18-1977
15. Sally Arthur d) 4-12-1994
16. Howard Lee Arthur d) 3-16-1998
17. Everett Lee Arthur d)
18. Alta M. Arthur d) 9-27-1975

I have a friend that works at the cemetery and he looked these up for me - I still have to go photograph the stones. These are all past on, but some didnt get death dates. I think I probably have them, as this is all "my" family. I also have map of where they are all buried, they are all fairly close to each other.

Mount Olive Cemetery - Douglas Co., Mo.

1. Henry Ryan 1841? - 18??
2. George F. Ryan 1812/72 - 18??
3. ? Twyman 7-16-1885 7-18-1885
(infant son of H.A. & M.J. Twyman)
4. Johnie Twyman d) 9-19-1892 on new stone marker
( John son of Morgan & N.J. Twyman) on old stone

I list these because these people were related by marriages to the Arthurs. I do not have a complete listing of this cemetery, I still need to go back.

I am hoping that someone can make a connection.

Vondie
Callie Louise (Arthur) Froeming, 23Dec1974-13Nov2007

Callie Louise (Arthur) Froeming, 32, of Alturas, CA and Bell, FL, passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 13, 2007, while at North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville, FL. Mrs. Froeming was hospitalized due to complications from a hereditary kidney disease. She was awaiting a kidney transplant before the end of this year.

Born Callie Louise Arthur on December 23, 1974, in Cleveland, Ohio, she graduated with the class of 1994 from North Olmsted High School in North Olmsted, a suburb of Cleveland. She met Tyler Froeming in 1993 and the two were married in Cleveland, OH on March 18, 1995.

In 1998, they moved to Moreno Valley, CA for Tyler's position with CHP. While living in Moreno Valley, Callie was a Girl Scout leader for her daughter's troop and enjoyed participating in school functions. Tyler transferred to Alturas in May of 2007 and Callie and their two children joined him in June.

Callie lived in Alturas briefly until her illness required more medical resources than the area had. For the past several months, she stayed with her parents in Florida where she was undergoing medical treatments, and awaiting her kidney transplant, until she was able to return to her new home in Alturas.

Callie was good at creating arts and crafts projects and she enjoyed creating photo albums as well as knitting and crocheting hats and scarves. She enjoyed gardening and traveling, but her family gave her the most enjoyment in life.

Callie is survived by her husband Tyler Froeming of Alturas, CA; children Matthew, 13 and Valerie, 11, Froeming of Alturas, CA; her parents Noel and Joann Arthur of Bell, FL; sister Thea Salerno of Cleveland, OH, parents-in-law Dennis Froeming, Bozeman, MT; Denise and the Rev. Peter Robison of Prescott, AZ; several aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held in Prescott, AZ in March 2008. Services were also held Nov. 19 in Chiefland, FLorida. In her memory the family suggests planting a tree, as Callie loved and appreciated trees wherever she traveled and lived.

Mary E. Arthur Family Bible, 1883.

I found this Bible at a York County, Pennsylvania antique auction.

This large ornate bible is engraved on the front with the name Mary E. Arthur. The inside cover notes it was gifted to her from Jacob B. Ocker in Marietta (Lancaster County, Pennsylvania) on May 24, 1883. Of course this is written in fountain pen!

The marriage and birth record does have information recorded. Apparently, Mary had a set of twins and then another single child later. She was married on Christmas Day!

The binding has separated from the spine and at least two dozen pages at the start of the book are loose. Typical with age, the pages are brittle and darkening. There is breakage on the edges and corners.

Incredible art in this Bible!! There are full color lithographs as well as hundreds of black and white steel print illustrations! There are maps, botanical pages and coin identifications plus much more.

A great, rare collectible! I did purchase this Bible at a auction so if anybody is interseted in buying it please contact me and I will e-mail you pictures.

Jane Arthur was chr 11 Jan 1857 in Gwinear, Cornwall, England. Parents were: Henry and Sarah Arthur.
This must be Henry Arthur chr 15 March 1829 in Gwinear to
Thomas Arthur and Jane Pollard.
There is a burial of a Henry Arthur, age 32, of Denner Crop, Crowan, Cornwall, England for the 1 Dec 1860 in Gwinear.
Assume this is the above Henry Arthur son of Thomas and Jane.
The 1871 census has a Jane Arthur age 15 Camborne in the home
of Sarah Pascoe as a servant.
Thomas Arthur of Michigan

I am looking for more information on my 4G grandfather. His name was Thomas Arthur, his wife's name was Emaline (she was born in Michigan in 1836). Thomas was born in June 1825 in Ireland, and eventually settled in Clinton County Michigan. Thomas and Emaline had ten children, including my 3G grandmother Estella, who married Charles Holley. I have more information about the 10 kids if anyone wants that.

According to the 1880 census Thomas's parents were both born in Ireland, but that's all I know about them. If anyone has any more information about Thomas's siblings or parents, or for that matter about Emaline's family I would greatly appreciate it!

Bertha E. Arthur, b. 1892, m. Hatfield, and Rexroat, Minnie Jane Arthur, b. 1894, m. Sam Dixon, Effie Susan Arthur, b. 1895, m. Another Arthur, Samuel Arthur, b. 1897, d. 1898, Flora Ethel Arthur, b. 1899, m. Christian, Alpha Edwin, b. 1900, m. Ray and Dixon, Herbert Albert Arthur, b. 1903, Hadley Beecher Arthur, b. 1910, m. Kellenbeck, Ollie Ann Arthur, b. 1907. I am interested only in this Ollie. I have her death certificate from Medford, Jackson Co. OR, she d. 1982, and her son Eugene H. Burnett gave the information for the certificate. She was listed as divorced, and her name on the certificate was Ollie Arthur DeBelling. Obviously she was married to a Mr. Burnett, and had at least one son. She was either divorced or widowed, and married someone named DeBelling. She may have divorced him too, or left him a widower, however if that were the case, likely he would have been the one to give the death certificate information. I think I have found a brother to Eugene also, a John L. Burnett, b. 1928, OR, to a woman who's maiden name was Arthur, and who d. in Contra Costa Co. CA, in 1995. Eugene Burnett was b. 1930, and d. 1996 in Jackson Co. OR. Rootsweb says that Alpha Edwin Arthur, and Herbert Albert Arthur also died in Jackson Co. OR.

Is his name really ABNER ARTHUR b. abt. 1802 in Virginia

This is another thought of mine about this missing Arthur.

I only find him in 2 US census. Both Missouri 1850 & 1860.
in the 1850 census it lists him as just married within the year to Nancy. That of course means that there was another wife before 1850. Cant find any record of him before this.

My thinking (Im grasping here) is that maybe Abner is not his first name (possibly middle??)
I have found John A., Thomas A. , etc......

His son John J. lists him as being born in Mo. But Abner himself states that he is born in Virginia. So, Im am assuming that his son was mistaken.

His son stated that his mother is from Missouri also. (which would be a clue to go looking for IF I could link this Abner with ANYONE other than Nancy)

I dont know which way to look for his parents - because in those census' they did not ask parentage - lucky me.

This is the lineage I have thus far:

1 Abner Arthur b.)abt. 1802-1803 VA. (according to 2 census)
children:
2 John J. b.)1831 MO
2 William b.)1837 MO
2 Polly b.)1841 MO
2 Mary b.)1845 MO
2 Elizabeth b.) 1847 MO
2 Sarah Jane b.)1849 MO M.) Daniel Boone Pinegar
2 Catherine b.)1850 MO

married:
1 Nancy abt. 1850

2 John J. Arthur
m. Susan Malone

Children
3 William F. Arthur b.) 1861
3 Thomas b.) 1870
3 Charles b.) 1874
3 Oliver b.) 1879

3 William F. Arthur
married
3 Ada Charles b.) 1863
children
4 Harry
4 William
4 Oliver
4 Oscar b.)1888
4 Everett
4 Lula
4 Inez
4 Emma

4 Oscar Arthur
married
4 Myrtle Twyman
children
5 Alta
5 Beatrice
5 Hubert
5 Jim
5 Johnny
5 Lloyd
5 Luanna
5 Mildred
5 Eugene b.)1912

If anyone knows anything about these people I would really appresiate some help. I dont know what other information to list in this - but any questions I will answer. I just cant think of anything else to look for. I am just hoping that someone - somewhere can link him as a child of one of these Arthur males from VA.
(My nowadays Arthur clan are notorious for going by nicknames or middle names because there are so many juniors, etc.....)

Any other ideas would be most welcome.

Vondie Arthur
vondiearthur@sbcglobal.net

I think she may have been the Ann Arthur who was born in 1783 in Bodmin and was the daughter of John Arthur and Mary Pearce. Michael Williams was the manager of the Cornish Bank in Falmouth and was a Quaker. They both died in about 1822. Does anyone have information on this family?

I know that this is probably nothing new to anyone - but - I was looking over some of the records that I have and I noticed something new (I hadnt noticed before).
The 1850 census, Dallas Co., Mo. lists Abner Arthur married to Nancy Arthur (Buckley?) - BUT it says that these two had gotten married within the year. SO- has anyone found who he was married to before?
It says that there were 5 children living with them:
John (Jr.) Arthur - 18 yrs.
William - 14
Polly - 8
Elizabeth - 6
Sarah J. - 1
It seems to me that all the children couldnt have been from their marriage.
You have to excuse me - I lost all of my prior records and I am starting over. Just wondering if this is something that I am just not remembering.
Any info anyone???
Thanks

The Lost Colony DNA Project & Symposium

From the Administrator of the Project:

Is your family part of the Roanoke Lost Colony? It could be! My name is Roberta Estes and I’m the Director for DNA Research for the Lost Colony Center for Science and Research. (www.lost-colony.com) Our goal is to discover the fate of the Roanoke Lost Colonists.

For those of you who don’t know about the mystery of the Lost Colony, here’s a primer. In 1587, Sir Walter Raleigh financed a venture in which 116 men, women and children were planning to establish the first permanent colony in the New World. Their goal was to raise tobacco and other supplies that colonists were unable to obtain in England, and to search for precious minerals, like gold.

In the fall of 1587, the colonists finally arrived on Roanoke Island in present day North Carolina, after a very difficult journey in which their food supplies were ruined. They sent John White, whom they had elected governor, back to England to obtain food and supplies and expected his return in the spring of 1588. However, the Spanish attached England and England, having no Navy, impressed all of her fishing vessels and private merchant ships into Naval service. Finally, in 1590, three years after leaving the colonists which included his daughter, son-in-law and infant granddaughter, he returned to Roanoke Island to find it deserted, but not destroyed. It appeared as if the colonists had simply moved. A single word, a clue, Croatan, was carved on a tree. The Croatan were the friendly Indians living nearby. Before John’s departure, he had instructed the colonists to carve crosses if they had to leave in distress. There were no crosses.

John White would spend the rest of his life searching for the Lost Colonists. Many hints and clues indicate that at least some of the Colonists survived and were assimilated into the native tribes. The question is, did they, and if so, who are they today?

In 1993, the original site of the Croatan village was located. Subsequent archaeological and genealogical research suggests that the colonists did survive, and that when the land was granted to settlers, it was granted to some of those survivors who were by that time considered to be Indians. With recent advances in DNA for genealogy, we finally have, today, the ability to solve the mystery. We have created a plan that combines history, genealogy and DNA to solve the mystery. However, we can’t do this alone. We need the help of the families who have been identified as “families of interest”, being either roster members of the Lost Colony of those who obtained land grants on the original Croatan village site. Many of those names are the same.

In order to educate people and work closely with people who are interested, we are sponsoring the Lost Colony Symposium for DNA and Recent Research Sept. 7-9, 2007 at the Lost Colony Center in Williamston, NC. The symposium will be held between the Center and the Holiday Inn, as noted on the flyer at http://www.lost-colony.com/DNAsymflyer.html.

Given that your surname is one of those on our “Names of Interest” list, I hope that people on the list will join with us in our research. I am hoping from this mailing, aside from encouraging people to attend the Symposium, to achieve the following:

1. To identify a primary research person or persons for your particular surname who would serve as a contact/coordinator for future postings, requests and research.

2. To identify a family archival website(s) if one exists.
3. To identify if there are any families of that surname that are from NC (or early coastal SC or VA), have oral histories of Indian or "mixed" heritage, are involved with any of the tri-racial isolate groups (Melungeons, Red Bones, etc.) and/or have any oral history of the Lost Colonies.

4. To determine if the family group is involved already with DNA testing, and if so, who coordinates that effort.
5. To determine if there is any research occurring or that has occurred for your surname in Great Britain, and if not, if anyone is interested in pursuing that avenue.

To become involved with the Lost Colony project, or to support the project, please attend our Symposium. Our project plan will be announced at the Symposium, and we have a long list of wonderfully educational speakers. Bring your pedigree charts and your genealogy as the right people will be present to help you with your testing plan.

If you can’t attend the conference, you can still join the project. Information will be posted shortly about how to do that on the Lost Colony website.
John Arthur, 1758-1850,REV WAR Pensioner

In a letter dated Jan. 26, 1933, as part of the pension papers packet, Reference is made to John Arthur,b. 1758 Va. died 1850 and enlisted as a soldier in the Revolution. His wife is named as Elizabeth, daughter of John Adams and Sarah and her birth date is given as Sept.28,1769.
The Pension application papers are very interesting reading for anyone who loves history much less descending from that individual. My question is: I am always reading John's wife given as Rebecca Elizabeth "Betsy" Adams. I also read that there is actually no proof that Elizabeth or Betsy was an Adams. Could some of those postings be confusing John m.Elizabeth of the Rev. War individual with John 1709 m.
Rebecca? Or have I got it all wrong? I would love to have someone put this straight. Thanks. C. Jones

Lewis and Nancy Hartsfield Arthur

I strongly believe that Lewis Arthur and Nancy Hartsfield Arthur had a daughter, Elizabeth, born 1820, who married George W. Verner and lived in Gwinnett County, Georgia. (Gwinnett County and Clark County, where Lewis and Nancy lived, are adjacent.) George and Elizabeth were married by the time of the 1850 census. Five of their children appear to be named after Lewis, Nancy and their children. Some children have names which appear to be from the Hartsfield family. Need Proof!

ARTHUR Males VA-NC --> KY --> IN

To All Arthur Relatives,

Sharon Knapp, Betty Ralph and I (along w/a few others) have put together a comprehensive roster of the male descendants of two Arthur brothers (John and Samuel) from VA-NC --> KY --> IN. We are about to go public with it, and it will eventually be posted on a website.

This is our prototype -- a work-in-progress, and we want your feedback. Be sure to get back to us with any corrections/additions you may have -- including any typos!

All three of us are open to changing any part of this list with adequate documentation. And we'll be happy to provide our own reasoning and documentation. Some sections, though are based solely on logic and deduction.

This list contains only the Arthur men and currently prints out at twelve pages. It is in M/S WORD (PC). For those of you who want this list and have MACs, ask a friend with a PC to e-mail me, and I'll be happy to send it to him/her to be printed out for you.

E-mail me at amaranthb@earthlink.net for your copy. It'll come to you as an attachment. I can guarantee you it will be virus-free when it leaves here.

Best, BarBara Fricke
Margaret Pinkerton was helpful in finding my fathers parents in the 1910 census from Marmet, Wv. She found my grandparents George and Eliza Jane (Cummins) Arthur living next door to her relative Jeremiah Arthur. The census shows that at the time they had 8 living children, and that a son George, was 3 years old at the time. My father, Frank Arthur was not born until 1921, but this is his parents as he was born much later in their life. If anyone is related to any of these, or would like more of the info she found, please contact me at my email address dandlk@hotmail.com
I am anxious to find cousins and other relatives. Thanks, Lora
