Abraham Artman b: abt 1833 Armstrong or Westmoreland Co., PA

I am at a loss on this Abraham Artman and his parents. Abraham married Delila Riggle daughter of Jacob Riggle and Maria [Mary] Klingensmith. Both Jacob & Mary were born in Westmoreland Co., PA. Jacob Riggle was married twice. 1st. wife was Mary Klingensmith, 2nd. wife was Susanna Shall.

I came across this while searching the message boards for the Erdman/Atman Ancestors and related families. I am the great granddaughter of Anna Mary Klingensmith Artman who married Daniel Kepple. My grandmother was Abbie Annetta Kepple Walter and my mother was Martha Isabel Walter Morten.
My niece Michelle Shuttleworth, my brother Alan Wesley Morten Jr.'s daughter, wrote you earlier. I have received very little information from her, thus am left in the dark while trying to work on my DAR papers. I would appreciate any information you might provide. things including Katherine's last name. It is Ulrich.
I also believe Lorenz came from the part of Germany
that is close to the now Luxembourg or in the Baverian
Alp area.

---Malinda MORRISON, one of 13 children, was born in
Belden, Indiana, October 20, 1866, and departed this
life August 26, 1949, at her home in Lincoln, Kansas.
She came to Kansas with her parents, the Rev. and Mrs.
John MORRISON in 1887 and for several years the family
lived in Smith County. The father was an early-day
circuit rider of the United Brethren church. Times
were hard and often the family was deprived of the
necessities of life.
On February 10, 1889, she was united in marriage to
Henry W. ROATH. To this union were born four children,
two of whom died in infancy. On June 19, 1909, her
husband preceded her in death in Denver, Colorado,
where they then resided. With her two daughters she
came to Lincoln, Kansas, to make their home in 1911.
On May 11, 1912, she was united in marriage to Arthur
ARTMAN, who preceded her in death on November 8, 1946.
Mrs. ARTMAN was a devout christian and as long as her
health permitted she was a faithful worker in the
Methodist church of which she was a member. She leaves
to mourn her departure, two daughters, Meda F. VOSS,
Vancouver, Washington; Mrs. Flossie A. SCHROEDER,
Beverly, Kansas; four grandchildren, four great
grandchildren: one sister, Mrs. Mary SMALL, Denver,
Colorado; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of
friends.
The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon,
August 27, from the Lincoln Methodist church,
conducted by the minister, the Rev. B. A. Lovelady.
Internment was made in Lincoln cemetery.

Lincoln Sentinel Beacon May 7, 1931.
...Justus Arminus ARTMAN was born in Hunter, New York,
Sept. 5, 1849. Died at his home in Lincoln, Kansas,
April 27, 1931, age 81 yrs., 6 mo., 22 days. In 1869,
he was married to Miss Aspocia McCOON, near Hunter,
New York,, to which union were born, one son and three
daughter, all of whom survive him. Mr. ARTMAN was born
on almost the same spot as was the birth place of his
father, this farm having been given his father by the
government, as a soldier of the Revolutionary war and
which is still in the hands of the family.
He came to Lincoln County, Kans., in 1879, settling on
a farm north of Lincoln. In 1881, he moved to town,
having received an appointment to the office of
Probate Judge. This appointment having experied he was
elected to a second term to the same office. He then
spent many years working in the mill and buying wheat
until an accident unfitted him for further service
there. Then for several years he was Custodian of the
Central school building, faithfully performing his
services throughout these years. Early in life he
became a member of the Methodist church, but later
transferred to the Christian church where for some 20
years, he remained a member.
He leaves to mourn his departure his companion, Mrs.
Aspocia ARTMAN, his son Arthur, of Lincoln, Ks., and 3
daughters, Mrs. Ada FLETCHER, of Seattle, Washington;
Mrs. Harriet RYAN, of Lincoln, Kansas; and Mrs. Nell
SCHROEDER, of Paseo Robles, California. Also one
sister, Miss Caroline ARTMAN of Hunter, New York; six
grand children and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from the Hall Funeral
Parolors, with Rev. Roy D. PLOTT in charge. Burial in
Lincoln cemetery.

---Arthur ARTMAN was born in Hunter, New York,
December 13, 1870, and departed this life November 8,
1946 at St. John's Hospital, Salina, Kansas. He came
to Kansas with is parents in 1879 and lived near or in
Lincoln the rest of his life. He was married to Minnie
ADAMSON on May 27, 1895. She preceded in death on
April 18, 1911.
Beginning in 1894 Mr. ARTMAN taught school for eleven
years in various districts over the county. In 1902 he
was elected to the office of Probate Judge of Lincoln
County, holding this office for forty consecutive
years. On May 11, 1912, he was united in marriage to
Malinda ROATH of Denver, Colorado. Mr. ARTMAN'S daily
life was proof of his belief and knowledge that only
through Jesus Christ can we enter the Kingdom of
Heaven.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his beloved wife,
Malinda ARTMAN; two daughter, Mrs. Meda E. VOSS,

That would be nice. I am sorry I don't have much info to tell so that you might determine whether or not we're related. I only know that my fathers name was George Blaine Artman, his brother's name is Richard Artman (they called him "Dickie" and that I have a half brother named Jeffery. I could find out more from my mother maybe.

My name is Richard Artman...probably not the Artman you're looking to find though.

I am interested in putting together a family tree myself, but little is known about my father's-father's origin. Maybe we're connected somewhere.

My father's-father's wife was named Eleanor Hackethorn. Together they had somewhere around 12-14 siblings. Sound like anyone you've uncovered in the family tree?

I am looking for info on the Artman family. John Artman born 1820 in Ohio, married Sarah Peterson Anthony from Geneva,PA. They had atleast 3 children. Charles Artman Burrows, Lillian Belle Artman, and Sarah(Sadie) Artman. Sarah Peterson Anthony Artman was born in 1848 and married an Anthony in 1865 in Meadville,PA. (2 Anthony children) Somehow Sarah Peterson Anthony Artman ended up in Ohio(County not know). Her 3 Artman children(above) were born in Ohio. Rumor has it that it was a cow town called Hampton, Ohio. Then the family ended back in PA. John and Sarah must have divorced because Sarah P A Artman marries a Charles Burrows around 1885. I belive you missed a generation. Abraham Artman born 1839 died ca 1913 did go to Kansas but he did not have a son named Leo. His son Byron however did. Your family comes into my cline line and I'm working on revising my published Cline history. PLease contact me if you would like to add your family's information.

I am sorry I am not sure this is the same family line. We do have Abraham but I did not find a Leo or a Mary Shellhammer. Our group came from Germany, settled in Western Pa and parts of Ohio. If you come up with any other names I will be glad to check for you.

I have a news clipping of the Huber Family Reunion, titled "Ohio Family of Ten Children, Oldest 83"

When the ten children of the late John M. and Sara Huber get together to talk over old times, they can go back over a good number of years in their recollections. For the oldest of the Hubers is 83 and the youngest 57. The family had a reunion here recently and lined up for this picture.

All of the children were born in the family home on N. Main Street here.

I would be glad to copy, as best I can, and fforward to famly members. It is very dark so not sure how well it will come out. Was in a scrapbook pasted down in a group of items dated in the 1940s.

I'm sorry It's been so long to reply. I have Abraham Erdman/Artman born 27 Jan 1762 to Andreas or Andrew Erdman and Anna Maria Frederick/Fridrich Erdman. He was one of 11 children the couple raised although the oldest two were from a first marriage to Anna Dorothea. The family lived in Upper Saucon Twp and Hilltown Twp, Lehigh County PA (just north of Philly). Andreas/Andrew was the son of John (perhaps Johannes Justus) and Anna Catherine Erdman

In my notes Abraham is listed as having moved to Westmoreland County as well as the oldest sibling, Catherine born 14 Feb 1748 and married to Jacob Barnhart.If this helps and you would like more info, please contact me at Scribe0002@aol.com Kate

ARTMAN in Mercer County, PA

Looking for any help in finding my Artman line. Charles Paul Artman I (married Della Snyder) to Charles Paul Artman II (married Rosana Rhoades). Charles & Della had 9 children (Leroy, Clair, Benjamin, Floyd, Howard, Lawrence, Luke, Charles II, and Robert). I know no further ancestors or descendants besides my direct line. Any and all help would be so very much appreciated!

Artman Family Cemetery, Allegheny, Westmoreland, PA

According to the PAGenWeb cemetery page for Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, there is an Artman Family Cemetery in Allegheny Township. Does anyone have any info on who is buried here?

I have Benjamin ARTMAN (b. 1762, d. 1814) and wife Margaret GANGAWARE, lived in Westmoreland Co. Also George SOBERS (b. 1755, d. 1849) and wife Anna Margaretha ARTMAN (b. 1758, d. 1847). And possibly Jacob BARNHART and wife Catherine ARTMAN (b. 1748) may have lived in Westmoreland as well.

Any info on any of these people, or if they are buried at the above cemetery, would be appreciated.

Curious if any of this sounds familiar to anyone else.

Okay, immigrant Johannes Yost ERDMAN had a son named Andreas ERDMAN who married 1. Anna SIEGFRIED and 2. Anna FREDERICK. Andreas d. in Lehigh County in 1790.

With 2nd wife, had a son Andrew ERDMAN/ARTMAN b. 1757 Lehigh County, m. Susanna BITZ. Andrew d. 1843 in Bucks County. 4 children: Solomon, Enos, Maria, Hannah.

I believe Enos is same as my Enos ERDMAN/ARTMAN, who I also find as Enosh. Enos had sister named Maria Heilig.

Enos b. ca 1795 Bucks County, m. Margaret REIVER/REESER. 6 children I know of: Edward, b. ca 1824; Willoughby R., b. Aug 1825 Lehigh County; Hannah, b. ca 1831; Mahlon, b. 1 Apr 1833 Bucks County; Aaron R., b. Aug 1834; Major Enos R., b. ca 1838.

Also have children of Willoughby, Mahlon and Aaron.

I am trying to make the connection solid between Enos and Andrew.
