Hello,
Arvello or Arvelo in old Latin from Arve (land) and ello (small) translating into "little field" or small lot. In other words a farmers surname.
For the longest time I was told by relatives that all Arvelo (Spanish), Arvello (Italian), and Arveleau (French) are all related. According to relatives, our ancestry is from Italy from one common family with migrations to Spain, Portugal, France, and northern Europe. The only mark that remains in Italy that is anything Arvello is two small former towns in Italy now called "Frazioni" or fractions. The Frazioni of Arvello and Costa di Arvello are now are apart of the Comune of Foligno or Città di Foligno.
On my Arvello/Arvelo side of the family left Italy (at the time when the name was spelled Arvello) migrated to Spain (where at some point the "LL" was dropped to a single "L" to maintain the pronunciation of the name). At some point during colonial times my family migrated to both the what is now the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, USA.
I am planing a project to obtain birth, marriage, and death certificates in four countries. I will go as far back as I can in history. Unfortunately my family has lost their history that I know very little about. Hopefully this journey will take me all the way back to the beginnings of our family. Our story. I am Puerto Rican born. Once I have complied all the research, I will display all of the names in my incomplete family tree.
I want to thank those that took the time to read this :)
