Hello Angelo :) I have to apologize for not seeing this before now. That is very interesting :) Since I last posted here I have met some distant cousins through these geneology forums. And we were able to fill in the family tree alittle better. And after talking to one of my great Aunts I was also able to learn more about my family. My great great grandmother and grandfather immigrated to the US from Naples, Italy. I found the Asaro surname on the Sicilian Surname registry. I also found a map which showed that the highest concentration of Asaro's in the world is still in Sicily. My Aunt told me that I have ancestry in Naples and Sicily as my ancestors tended to bounce back and forth between the two. She also directed me to another cousin who had done some research on his own and found some other meanings. One from the baptismal name Azzo which means "noble" so Asaro could mean "descendant of the noble one" , or "Azaro" derived from "Acciaio" that means "steel" meaning that the original bearer was a foundry worker. Or the word "Azza" that means "battle-axe" that would mean the first bearer could have been a warrior. Another thing my Aunt also told me after I first posted her was that the name was originally "Azaro" but my grandparents changed the "z" to an "s" when they came here, why?? I have no earthly idea and I haven't found out anything else about that really. Now, none of this I have posted is to say in anyway that what you have been told is any less valid or interesting(which it is very interesting). Lets just say I think I've finally begun to unravel (sp?) some of my own family history :) ;)
