I've found out that this Asay/Metz story is not true.
The true story is Michael Asay married Johannes Konrad Metz's daughter Elizabeth.
From the Writing of Almira Alice Asay:
"Johannes Konrad Metz was one of the many Kassel, Hesse soldiers that came from Germany and served to help the British in the Revolutionary War and lived until after that war and changed his loyalities and remained in America. And since my great grandfather Jacob Asay's brother, my great grand uncle Michael Asay, born 1773 in Wrightstown, Burlington, New Jersey, married Johannes Konrad Metz's daughter Elizabeth Metz in 1799 in Burlington County, New Jersey, later in life for my great grandfather Jacob Asay it was a notable honor for him to add Metz as a middle name to his name and be known as Jacob Metz Asay."
The many Writings by Almira Alice Asay McNamara are in the possession of the family of Clarence Linden "Buster" Crabbe.
