A six page history signed by J. Lambert Asay, San Jose, Calif., December 1, 1914, states that Joseph Elwell ASAY, MD of Rock Island Illinois, great grandfather was Michael ASAY.
Michael ASAY married (1)Berthana, (2) Jemina, and (3) Elizabeth (widow of Johannes Konrad Metz or in English John Conrad Metz; Dutch spelling may be Metze).
Elizabeth and John Metz's son Jacob was age three when his father sickned on the voyage at sea and died. Elizabeth, son Jacob and another infant son continued their journey, arriving at port, they crossed the river into New Jersey and settled in Burlington Co near a place called Vincetown (about 1790). After a period of widowhood, Elizabeth married Michael Asay.
The "Metz boys" under this new semi-parentage dropped their true and rightful family name, and in its stead adopted the step-father's name ASAY. They were afterwards always referred to as the "Asay boys."

I do not think my Asay line ties into this family.
I need the Ancestors for Isaac ASAY (born 27 May 1797, Springfield, Burlington, NJ); son of Joseph ASAY (born 27 May 1771, NJ; no birth record found), and mother Phebe BUTCHER (born 11 Apr 1760, Trenton, Mercer, NJ).
If you would like a copy of the six pages, let me know and I will send them to you.
Sincerely, Lynn Asay
