William & Joseph Asbell/ So. Georgia

Hello to all Asbells and connecting lines,
My name Is Kenneth Asbell. I've just recently started tracking my Family lines and I'm surprised how much I've learned in such a short time. But I still have lots of questions.
My great grandfather was Christopher Columbus Asbell. His parents William Asbell and Sarah ann Garrett. Thats where I got stuck. No parents for William. I read some other messages here that stated he had a brother named Joseph and another Ivan. What source is there to make that connection? Christophers wife, if I'm correct, was Fannie Allen Baker. I can't find much on her either.
My grandfather was Vernon Columbus Asbell, and My father
William Rudolph Asbell. I understand that Dad was known as Rudy in his youth.
So, if anybody can help me, please respond. And if I can help anyone, please ask.

Ken Asbell

Daniel Asbell of MS and TN

I am seeking information about Daniel Asbell/Asbille (b. c1844 MS; d.5 Aug 1920 Hardin Co., TN). He is listed on 1850 and 1860 Census for Tishomingo Co., MS in household of his mother, Nancy with his sisters Louisa, Arminda, and Mary J. He is listed as head of household on 1870 Census for Prentiss Co., MS with wife, Elizabeth (Stringfellow) and children, Robert M. and Gillie. Listed in 1920 Census for Hardin Co., TN, as a widower living in the household of one of his daughters and her husband.

I'm trying to determine who Daniel's father was, and also his mother's maiden name. There was a Thomas J. Asbel listed in the 1840 Census for Tishomingo Co., MS; also a John Asbel. Based on ages of family members (unnamed in Census information that I have), Thomas would be a better fit - but it could be someone else entirely.

Census records vary, but list the birthplace of Daniel's mother, Nancy, as either South Carolina or Alabama. Father's birthplace sometimes listed as Alabama. Not sure whether either of these is correct.

Daniel's son, Robert Monroe Asbille (1868-1909) married Mary Addie Howard (1872-1892) in Hardin Co., TN on 8 Aug 1891. (Robert later remarried and died in Bordwell, KY.) Their daughter was Lillie Asbell (1891-1956), raised by her maternal grandparents. Lillie and her husband, Ezra Bowen (1886-1977) were my grandparents.

I would love to communicate with anyone researching this line, and will gladly share information I have. Thanks!
Tyree Asbell married Emma Jane (Vanderpool) (Ballard) Thomas 09OCT1881 in Dade Co., Mo.
Thomas Richard Asbell, the son of Tyree Asbell and his second wife Malinda Webb, married Fannie Ballard the daughter of Emma Jane. I cannot locate any information on Emma Jane or Fannie prior to the marriage of Emma to Tyree.
ASBILL Surname *Y*D*N*A* Group Update # 2

We now have a total of seven participants: two have just recently returned kits and are waiting for lab processing on 12 marker tests; one existing 12-marker result is currently being upgraded to the 25 marker level.

HAPLOGROUPS
We have four unique 12-marker haplotypes. One of these Y-D*N*A* marker groupings (Y haplogroups) includes three testees. The haplotypes are classified into Y Haplogroups in similar manner as is used for plant and animal classification.

NEW CONNECTIONS
We have received confirmation of a 33 of 37 marker match linking two families with over 75% probability of connection occurring within the past 300 years. This appears to be a solid connection due to the number of markers tested and the same Asbill (+variant) names.
They were unaware of each other prior to the testing

PARTICIPANTS.
We have participants thus far from Georgia, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Pennsylvania.

At this point we have three ASBILLs, two ASBELLs, one ASBEL and one ASBYLL - we would like to have many more join this interesting project. I have to admit that thus far we are finding a lot less near-term relatedness than what I anticipated!

Please remember, your contacts with and encouragement of prospective ASBILL participants is our STRONGEST recruiting tool. Please use this tool diligently and often!

You may track the test results progress from the public group website provided by F*T*D*N*A* by clicking on :

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Asbill/

The FamilyTree*D*N*A* web page provides a thorough review of the *Y*D*N*A* project procedures and the science and the value of Genetic Genealogy to your research.

Please contact either Delmar Asbill or myself with any questions you may have about your individual results/situation or about things in general. We will make every attempt to provide answers.

Bill Harvey
wlh@foothill.net
ASBILL Surname Group Co-adminstrator

I am at my wit's end on where to find the parents of Jesse Asbell/Asbill estimated birth around 1800-1810. He was m. to Esther Mariah Winslow on Jan 02,1826 Perquimans, NC. There is another date showing that they were married Jan 03 1826 in Twiggs Co, GA.

Can anyone please tell me how to get more information? Earlier censuses do not list all names of household so I am at a standstill.

I was told that James Asbill m. to Sarah Byrum on 1/19/1802 are his parents, but I have no documentation to back that up. I can not find a list of their household. Jesse did have a son named James.

Obviously, I do not want to research the wrong people. I'd really appreciate some tips from those with more experience.

Pierce Asbell, Tyre Asbell, KY, MO

I have finally gotten past a brick wall that has plagued me for several years in tracing my Asbell line when I received a copy of my great grandfather's obituary, death certificate, and land patent file. This was when I also found out that the name we've always known him by wasn't the name he was born with. He was Carl Jerome/Carroll/Carroll R/Jerome Carroll Asbell born 11 Apr 1877 in Dade Co, MO married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Fisher, died 15 Aug 1948 in Clayton, Union Co, NM. His parents were Tyre Asbell and Melinda Webb, and his grandfather was Pierce Asbell, but I have received conflicting information on whether his grandmother was Nancy Nellie Still or Mariah Bryson. Can anyone help me with this? Also, does anyone have information and/or pictures that they would be willing to share on this line? I have some information on Carroll Asbell and his sister Katherine/Kate Asbell if anyone is interested.
Cindy
c_e_abbott@hotmail.com

THANKS send to rkin caid@sprynet.com(take space out, using to foil address gatherers)
ALSO, the treasure hunt of my life is the identity of parents of Mariel Asbell (sp. on tombstone; Merel Asbel in Civil War records) b. 4/10/1835 in Knox Co., KY, d. 6/15/1883 in Pope Co. IL. Married Sarah Potts. William Asbell enlisted same day, same place, possible brother, born in Madison Co. KY. And I absolutely concur that George Bennett's book is full of inaccuracies and just plain bunk. His own daughter thought so. FYI, she donated all her father's and her own extensive research and correspondence to a special collections library in Missouri.

I have two dates of marriage for James Asbell/Asbill m. to Sarah Elisabeth Boyce: 9-15-1858 Twiggs Co, GA (familysearch.org) and 9-13-1858 Chowan Co, NC (familysearch.org)

James' parents Jesse Asbell/Asbill m. to Esther Mariah Winslow also shows a similiar occurrence: m. Jan 2, 1826 Perquimans, NC (near Chowan) and Jan 03, 1826 Twiggs Co, GA

I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out why this is? I know some of their children were either born in Chowan or Twiggs Co. It looks like they moved back and forth, but why would they need to get married again? John Asbell, Jr. born in 1832 in Martin County Indiana. His parents names were John Sr. and Rebecca Bennett, and his spouse was Mary Ann Benefield. No Asbells were in the county for the 1830 census so they appear to have relocated just before his birth. Benefields were there in 1830 but not 1820. Any information on the Asbells or Benefields would be appreciated. Thanks!

Henry Washington Asbell/Azbell ABT 1877

I've reached a dead end in my research! I find Henry in the 1910 Ohio census in Sand Run, OH, but am unable to find him before that. Does he sound familiar? I have a tentative birthdate (he was 28 on my grandmother's birth certificate) of 1877. His nickname was "Pete".
