Burk Asbery

Looking for information on Burk Asbery, born in 1873. I'm not sure who his parents are, but he appears on the 1880 census in the household of Ouncebelle Slusher and Soleas(e) Allen. On the relationship line there's a word squished in before son, and since his last name is different from the rest of the family, I'm wondering if he is a blood relative or an adopted son. If anyone has any info, please pass it on, thanks!

Hi Eldona,
I don't have a match in my line for you thus far. My Jennie was Margaret Jane born in 1881 in TN.

There were several Asbury/Asberry/Asbery lines that came out of the same family in Tazewell, Virginia that ended up in Tennessee. We are all related, but I don't have a lot of information about that particular family in my line.

Be sure and post your inquiry to the Asbury board as well because the name spellings were often interchangeable depending on who could read and write at the time.

Also check the "Settlers from Tennessee to Texas" board:
http://boards.ancestry.com/topics.migration.tn2tx/mb.ashx
(copy and paste into your browser's address bar)
You may find information there.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Monica

I have a Jennie Asbury that was raise by an Uncle Birdie or Burney...she had 3 brothers one was a Randolph Born 1875, Daniel Turner born 1881 and Jennie Sharp Asbury born in 1877..We think they had a younger brother based on a photo we have. Their father was David Franklin Asbury and mother was Elizabeth Gibson..the mother died when the kids were young therefore raised by an Uncle. Jennie grew up in Texas and Oklahoma area, but was born in Tenn. Could this fit into any of your family. We can't find them anywhere on the 1880 census...We have all info for 1900 and forward.

Thank you for your time. Eldona

Roger, I don't have a whole lot of information on the Asbery side of my family, but my ggrandfather, Byrd Cook Asbery lived in TX & OK throughout his adult life. Seems my grandmother said something about two sisters, but apparently her dad had brothers that he didn't talk to. He died in the '50's in Lawton, OK, and was born in TN. I know one sister's name was Jenny. Email me if this seems like one of your line.
