Hey,
Glad to hear from you. No, he was not approved. A whole group of them applied (descendants of Nar ne) and all were denied. Doesn't mean they weren't Cherokee, just that they didn't meet the qualifications set down by the U.S. government.
James Ross Asbill is not my direct line. I descend from William Asbill and his wife Nar-ne and from three of their children: Mary, William and Joseph. I also descend from John Asbell (brother of the William who married Nar-ne). That gives me four Asbill lines that converge again and again.
