Application for Enrollment [to the Cherokee Nation]
... The undersigned, your petitioner, for and behalf of himself and his children this day make application to you for the purpose of being placed on the revised rolls[?] of the Cherokee Indians, and of those who are entitled to share in the lands, funds and allotments of lands in the Cherokee Nation, by virtue of their Cherokee blood. The ground upon which he claims his right to citizenship are as follows:
Petitioner says his name is Ross Asbill; that his age is 38. That he is an admixture of white & Cherokee and is at least one-fourth Cherokee by blood. That he derives his Cherokee blood from his father, the late John Asbill, who was a son of the late Ross Asbill who was born in the old Cherokee nation, now Alabama, and who was a Cherokee Indian, and a member of the Cherokee tribe of Indian Affiant further states that he intermarried Catherine Hurst, and by said marriage there was born, and are now living, the following named children: Martha Asbill, age 15, Johnnie Asbill, age 14, Ross Asbill, Jr. age 9, Alice Asbill, 6, Nettie, age 5.
And petitioner respectfully awaits the time and place where his application shall be tried.
