Hello,

The furthest I have been able to go back is Adam Asbridge that was born in either 1699 or 1700. He married Sarah Pierson in 1729 and then Mary Coleman in 1765. He died in 1765 and had at least 9 kids with Sarah (they are John, George, Joseph, Thomas, Benjamin, William, Jonathan, Elizabeth and Ann). He lived in Caldbeck in Cumbria.

If this is a match for anyone and you have managed to go further back I would love to hear from you.

Liam.

Re: Burial Place for Joseph Asbridge

If you're still looking, from what I have pieced together, sons Joseph K. and Martin K. moved to Caldwell, County, KY prior to 1840. Joseph K. later purchased land and moved to Lyon, County, KY. Best I can figure, Martin K. (my gggGrandfather) remained in Caldwell, County. It's possible they took their father Joseph or their father took them from North Carolina to Kentucky or they moved as a family group. Best guess I would start in Caldwell, Co around Princeton unless you know the exact location of the Graveyard. There are quite a few Asbridge's in KY that may be decended from the same family.

Let me know if your search is fruitful, haven't made it up there as yet.

Do you have a location on the cemetary you mentioned?

I'm suspicious that someone may have gotten the son & father confused and Joseph & Sarah remained in North Carolina.

Good Luck and Good Hunting.

Hi Gary

Thank you for getting back to me. Thomas Ashbridge born in 1835 was also my Great Great Grandad. My Great Grandad was William Ashbridge (1883) who was married to Martha Carr (1886). Who is your Great Grandad in this line as I have the list of Thomas's children. I am not sure what else I can tell you as I havent actually managed to get much further than this I am afraid. Although I would be really interested to hear about what you have found out. Have you visited Caldbeck before? I used to go quite a lot when I was younger as I had some relatives that still lived there altough not sure if we do now.

looking forward to hearing from you.
karen
Hello Andrea and Michael

The name As(h)bridge is thought to have originated in the small village of Caldbeck, Cumbria, UK. Records show that the name was spelt Asbrigg in the middle 1500s. The name means ash tree by a bridge. Between 1600 and 1750 the As(h)bridge family were numerous and prosperous in many towns and villages in the north of the then Cumberland (changed 1974 to Cumbria, when county boundaries were changed). From the mid 1700s many members of the family were know to migrate to other districts and counties. One branch of the family is known to have emigrated to Provo, Utah, their descendants spreading throughout the USA.
A George Ashbridge, said to have been born in Yorkshire, UK is known to have fathered a dynasty throughout the USA and Canada, where there is a Ashbridge house restored to it's original. Many Ashbridge's meet there each year.
If you wish I could send you my Ashbridge tree by Gedcon file, off list.
Yours
Mike Evans

Dear Jason,
The Burleigh Co., North Dakota -- ASBRIDGE's -- are written up in a county history book by Bismarck-Mandan Genealogical and Historical Society. Part of is said:
"Thomas William Asbridge IV came to Burleigh county in 1881. He was born in Wisconsin in 1857 to Thomas ASBRIDGE III and his wife, the former Elizabeth PARROTT. ..... A sea captain by trade, Thomas ASBRIDGE III was lost at sea never seeing the son his wife gave birth to. An interesting bit of history on his grandfather Thomas ASBRIDGE I, who was a seafaring man and lived in Maryport, England, was that at the time of his death in 1840 at the age of 80, he was eulogized as having commanded the first vessel ever built at that place. Being the oldest seafarer in Maryport, many owed their lives to his expertise on the high seas. Having never tasted intoxication liquor frrom cradle to grave he was aptly termed the "Father of Teetotalism." There is no information available on his son, Thomas ASBRIDGE II.
After 6 years of widowhood, Elizabeth married Patrick SMALL, ....."

My husband is related to you on the PARROTT and SMALL family lines. Do you know what happened to Emma ASBRIDGE, the sister of Thomas William ASBRIDGE IV? I would also like to find more information on Thomas W. ASBRIDGE III. What other information are you looking for?
Sincerely, Darlyene Martyn

Dear Laurence,
I am searching for information on Thomas William ASBRIDGE III. He was a Sea Captain from Maryport, Cumberland, England. He was lost at sea without seeing his son, Thomas William ASBRIDGE IV, who was born 18 JAN 1857 in Wisconsin, USA and died 04 JUN 1919 in South Dakota, USA. Thomas William ASBRIDGE III was married about 1850 to Elizabeth PARROTT a daughter of Henry and Susan PARROTT. They had three children, Emma, Louisa Jane and Thomas William. Elizabeth later married Patrick SMALL. My husband is related on both the SMALL and PARROTT lines through Elizabeth PARROTT's brother Charles PARROTT.

I have traced my family tree back to 1590 to Caldbeck in England. It is now a vast tree. It contains many Asbridge's as the name was often changed to Ashbridge. Iam a desendent of William Asbrigg, so you can see how the name keeps changing. You say you are from a line of U.K. Asbridge's which interests me as I may be able to link you to my tree. If you could let me know the details of you oldest Asbridge ancestor we may be able to help each other.
Gary Ashbridge of Chelmsford, Essex, England

I'm searching for information about my ggrandfather, Duly Asbridge. His daughter, Flausea (Flossie) Evelyn, was my grandmother and was married to Verlan Leo Horne. All I really know about Duly was that he had several brothers, was from a place called Flat River, Missouri, and that he and his wife died in a murder/suicide in Los Angeles, California in about 1930. I have a newspaper clipping of the event, but I have no history on this family. He and his brothers were apparently quite a rowdy sort and seemed to find trouble at every turn. Can anyone head me in the right direction? Thanks!

Hi Gary My name is Janice and I have just started family research in August so have only just seen your message on the Asbridge/Ashbridge board. My Grt Grt grandfather Nicholas Walker married Elizabeth Asbridge at Caldbeck on April 6th 1839. He was a bobbin manufacturer( as were a lot of Walkers from this area). They were married by Banns. After having five children, Elizabeth died in1854 and her husband remarried and had a second family.

Hi Mike I have been given your name by Gary Ashbridge. He said you have done loads of work on the Asbridge/Ashbridge family tree. My grt grt grandmother came from Caldbeck and was called Elizabeth Asbridge. Her father was called John. She married my grt grt grandfather in April 1839.They had at least 5 children if not 6.My grt grt grandfathers name was Nicholas Walker and he was a bobbin manufacturer of Friar Hall Sebergham but I have been told that it was actually in Caldbeck. I have contacted two sisters in Caldbeck called Ashbridge and they have told me these facts. I have just received my grt grt grandparents marriage cert from a relative of mine in London. I have only just started my family research in August and my head is whirring around on my shoulders with all the relatives that are popping up from all over the place. Please get back to me ?best wishes Janice.

I live in Cumbria (Previously Cumberland) England, and have been researching my Ashbridge family tree. It is believed this is where the As(h)bridge name originated.
The earliest that I have traced my tree back to is a Moses Asbridge in 1764, when he married an Elizabeth Hills.
He was a Mariner, as was some of his decendants.
I would be interested to know if anyone has info on any these that may have emigrated to America, in particular -
Thomas & Mary Asbridge, Mariner, some time after 1834?
or his brother John, possibly from Whitehaven, Cumberland.
