I'd love to hear about the Asbury cemetary. I am suppose to be a cousin of the Bishop. Am looking for Revolutionary War ancestor? Any ideas? I have info from the United Methodist Historical society that states that Edward Francis Asbury was born about 1685 in Stafford County England. Bishop Francis Asbury said he was named for this grandfather. Edward Francis Asbury had two sons, Joseph (born 1713 and died 1798) and Thomas (not much is known about this Thomas). Joseph Asbury married Susan Whipple about 1729. She died shortly after their son, Thomas was born. Joseph disowned his son, Thomas who was raised by relatives and went to sea at 15--eventially coming to Fairfax Co. Virginia and married Susannah Jennings in December 1751. In 1742 Joseph remarried--this time to Elizabeth Rogers--they had two children, Sarah (1743) and Francis (1745). ---He would later be the Bishop that brought Methodism to America. He never married. The Bishop did not serve during the Revolutionary War (for either side). When the Bishop died his world possessions were given to Rev. Daniel Asbury--his nearest relative. His grandson would say they were 2nd cousins. But Rev, Daniel Asbury was the issue of another Thomas Asbury who married Martha Jennings in Stafford County, VA, December 1751. Has anyone ever proved the relationship to the Bishop?
