Patty,
Lester Jadwin Asfeld's grandfather was Joseph Jadwin, born in mid-nineteenth century Oberlauterbach (in Alsace Lorraine on the French/German border). I am also descended from this line and would love to exchange more information.

Hi, I am not sure your Peter is the one I am looking for, but who knows. Peter would have had a sister named Anna. She married Heinrich Fuchs. She came to the US from Haarskirchen, Germany. Originally settling in Chicago and later moving to Wisconsin.
All I know is that she had a brother named Peter, I am unaware of any other siblings at this time. Peter did serve in the military, my aunt has a photo of him atop a horse in military dress.
Maybe we can help each other if we have the same line.
lkh928@hotmail.com

I'm seeking any info on the family of Anna Assfeldt. I believe she had a brother named Peter. She married Heinrich Fuchs in 1904 in Haarskirchen, Germany. She was born March 25,1856 in Haarskirchen and died in 1956 in Wisconsin.
I would like more info on her father and mother and any siblings she may have had. On her death cert. it listed her father as Henry Canfield.
It's so interesting that your last name is Fuchs because that's my maiden name!

I'm trying to find out info on the parents of Anna Asfeld(Assfeldt), b. Mar 25, 1876 in Haarskirchen, Germany. Her father is listed as Henry Canfield on her death certificate. She married Heinrich Fuchs in Haaskirchen on Jan 30, 1904 and came to the US in 1905, from Saarbrucken aboard the ship La Touraine. She came with her sister Catherine Asfeld Neibauer(Neubauer) not sure of the spelling. Any help would be appreciated.

Deanna,
I am related to the Asfeld's also. I'm not sure the information you are looking for, but if you attempt to look in the area of Watkins, Minnesota or St. Nicholas, Minnesota in Stearns Co., you may find what you are looking for. I have not researched the Adolph side much, but I do have some additional Asfeld information if you are interested. My Dad did some research in Carver Co. a few years ago and came up with some of the same information that you listed. Although, he never found where in Pennsylvania the Asfelds had come from. I appreciate this information. Let me know if I can help further. It may be interesting to note that there orginally were to other Asfeld children, Maria and Joseph, who died befor Teresia married John. Hope this may help a little.

Asfelds in France

This is where the link is foggy. I know that Peter Asfeld came from France with his wife, Barbara in about 1830. They settled in Pennsylvania. Peter came from France, but at this point it is unclear as to exactly where. His wife, Barbara, posible Grauly or Greulich or Graulich, was born in Baden. This information fits with what you are saying. There is also mention of a Henry Asfeld in some family documents, but I can find no record. He may have come from France also, but I have not uncovered anything yet. Please feel free to respond again. I can give you my email if the information fits. I'm also curious to know which Asfelds you are related to. Jennifer

Peter Asfeld/ Asfeld family

My great-grandmother was named Mary Asfeld/Osfeldt and she was born in Pennsylvania. Her parents were Peter [from France] and Babara [from Baden] Asfeld who farmed in Butler, Pennsylvania and then left for Carver Co. Minnesota. Mary was the youngest of the family but she had an older brother and sister, named Peter and Susan. I think there was another sister as well but I do not know her name. Peter Asfeld Jr. married Thersia Stelke from Holland on Sept 17, 1866 in Benton, Carver Co. Minnesota. They had several children together but Peter was tragically killed in a barn raising accident in 1876. His wife Theseia remarried in 1879 to a man called John Adolph and they moved to Sterans Co. Minnesota where he had purchased a farm. Mr. Adolph then raised the children of Peter Asfeld Jr. The children were Peter, Barbara, George, Elizabeth, and Leonard Asfeld.
By the time they left for Sterans Co, the newly married couple also had another child - Anehass Adolph. I am trying to trace this family in Sterans Co. Thank you

Asfeld Family

Dear Jennifer, Thank you so much for responding to my inquiry. I am very much interested in learning more about the Asfeld family. I do know that they came from Bulter Co. in Pennsylvania. I learned this summer that the wife of Peter Asfeld, Sr. was named Barbara and her maiden name was Gauly. I also learned the Diocese in France where they emigrated. I currently have a friend in Austria whose wife writes French. I emailed a letter to her and she translated it ....and mailed it to that Diocese. She mailed the letter last week so we are still waiting for a reply.
I am VERY interested what happened to John and Theresia Adolf after they left Carver Co. I have several newspaper articles about them before they left Carver. I also know that Mary's older brother Peter was killed in a barn raising accident, hence Thersia married John Adolf. I learned the date and place of Franz Joseph and Mary Asfled Nagel's marriage from the records at the chancery office in St. Paul. On that marriage record, Mary's mother and father are listed, her mother's maiden name and the diocese in France where they came from. BINGO. If you would like to email me outside this venue, the email is turton@abac.com I live in California. I will also send you copies of any documents that you might want to see. I also have a family portrail of FJ and Mary with 13 of their 14 children. Do you know if there were other siblings of Peter, Susan, and Mary Asfeld? It seemed on Peter Junior's obit that he had two brothers-in-law. Neither was FJ Nagel. Therefore I think there might be other siblings.....unless they were his wife's brothers and sisters. ????
Thank you so much for answering. How are you related? ...Deanna

PS........I did know about the two Asfeld children who died before the Adolph's left for Sterans Co. Are you related to one of the Asfeld children from the marriage of Peter and Theresia....before he died of course.
OR are you related to Susan....the middle child of Peter senior and Barbara Asfeld? I do not know what happened to Susan. I can find no marriage record, etc.
I am somewhat related to Jennifer - the lady who responded to you earlier. She is related to George Asfeld = one of the sons of Peter Asfeld and Theresia Stelke Asfeld. However, my great-grandmother was the youngest sister of Peter Asfeld, jr. Her name was Mary. Jennifer K. and I have recently found their other sister = Susan as well.
On the marriage record of my great-grandmother = Mary Asfeld Nagel, it says that her parents [Peter Asfeld, senior and Barbara Grauly Asfeld were from the diocese of Strasburg in France. Does that give you any clues if we are the same Asfelds. My email is turton@abac.com
Deanna Nagel Turton

My direct-line ancestors in the Asfeld family didn't emigrate to America. Catharine Asfeld, born 1793 in Oberlauterbach (northern Alsace), married Jacques Muller of Neewiller and together with their children moved to the industrial city of Mulhouse in the south of Alsace. That would have been in the 1830s or 40s. Their grandson Joseph Schweitzer who was born in 1859 in Mulhouse was my ancestor who emigrated. He left Alsace in 1882 and settled in St. Louis, MO.

Jenifer,
I too have Asfelds in my family tree who lived in France. I'd like to know where in France yours were from. Mine were living in Oberlauterbach in Alsace from at least 1735 but it seems they were from somewhere else before that. One or two generations married women whose families were from Baden, near Rastaat.
