I don't have Theodore Ash listed as a son because he was not listed on the Will. Do you have a land deed or something else that lists him as a son? If so, I'd be interested in finding out about it so I can update my database. The above file is everything I have on Daniel Ash, Sr. including notes provided to me by others.

I don't have all the sources listed for all the descendants, but I can tell you that the majority came from Arvil A Ash http://www.bassett.net/gendata-o/p2448.htm who produced a lot of info on mimeograph, long since faded to nothingness. Fortunately, I extracted it all onto family group sheets before that happened and entered it into my genealogy program. But those were the days prior to the programs being capable of sourcing. But for the most part, I can say that distant-to-me Ash cousins information are from Arvil's newsletters. BTW, I'm Adam > Christian > Jacob > Thomas > Tillman > Eleanor > me.

I have solved this one. Mary Stansberry was Anna Ash's cousin. Mary Stansberry was Mary McAndrew. She was a daughter of Patrick McAndrew and Malissa Ash. Malissa Ash was a sister of George Washington Ash, Anna Ash's father.

This sounds like my Ash family. Allen Ash, son of William and Zilpha West Ash, was born in Ohio, Apr 1835. The Ash, Williams and Zuber families then came by boat to Allegan Co. Michigan. I have all the same sibblings, except Harriet. Could she also be Mariah or Maria that married Charles G. Foster?

Anna Lee Ash was born 5 Oct 1898 ,Fern Creek, Kentucky.
She died 15 Feb 1944 Jefferson Kentucky.
Her parents were George Washington Ash and his second wife Mary Melvia Powell.
In the 1910 Fed Census for Nelson Kentucky, an Anna Ash, 11 years, born Kentucky, is listed in a household with James Stansberry, born about 1870, Kentucky and his Wife Mary, born about 1872, Kentucky. Anna Ash's relationship with the Stansberrys is listed as cousin.
The three children of George Washington Ash and Mary Melvia Powell,George, Melvia and Anna were cared for by other relatives after about 1907 following their deaths. They were mainly cared for by Lula Brentlinger (Ash) and her husband.
Lula was a daughter of George Washington Ash and his first wife Mary Jane Bridges.
If Anna Ash and the Stansberrys were cousins does anyone know how they were related ?

Please say approximately when your grandfather was born, and say if Leslie was older or younger. A location, even if it's just a state, will also help (city or county is even better). That location can be for his birth, death, marriage (or a combination). The more information you can provide, the more likely someone will be able to help.

This might be your grandmother, as she has sons named Charles and Leslie so it stands to reason they would be named after her husband and his brother.

John Ash was born in Cayton by Scarborough, Yorkshire, England 11 Nov 1815. Agnes appears to be about the same age, but her place of birth could be England or Ireland. Does anyone have information about the early oil industry in West Virginia. My Dad had told me my grandfather James Bert Ash son of G.W. Ash and other family members came to the midwest during the old cable tool drilling days following the oil. Is there a connection to Levi Smith? Anyone have any old pictures. I know G.W.'s son's James Bert and Alvin Guy followed the oil, and Charles Elmer Ash son of Vincent Ash made a name in Kansas as the Smith & Ash oil company. Also looking to talk to Mary "Ash" Goff a 2nd cousin, her last posting was in 2001.

James Bert Ash son of George Washington Ash was my grandfather: He was born in Shirley, WV on April 25, 1886. He was an independent Oil & Gas Producer, and died in Wichita, Kansas on March 7, 1965. I found out about a brother Alvin Guy Ash born in Alvy, WV on October 18, 1895 he was also in the oil business and lived in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Guy died on May 8, 1966 in Muskogee OK.

I have been researching Charles Elmer Ash partner in the respected Smith & Ash Oil Company or possibly Ash Drilling, and he was inducted into the Oil Museum at El Dorado, Kansas. My father Wiley Ash Sr. had said we were related somehow.

My grandfather, James Bert married Irlean Newsom, and had 8 children: J.B. Jr (sonny), Margie, Donald, David, Joyce, twins(Will & Wiley-my dad) and Gene. Irlean's mother was Minnie Jane Mahoney, Irlean's brother Melvin Newsom was owner of the Bama Pie Company.

Twins Wiley Roger Earl Ash Sr. and Will Post Asil Ash were born on July 10, 1935. Will Ash died in October 1977 due to an oilfield accident and Wiley Sr. died October 30, 2002. In December 1967, Will and Wiley discovered the Wilson Creek oilfield in Ellsworth Co. Kansas. It was the last large oilfield found in Kansas. After getting on strike, they drilled three oil wells a month for three years with only two dry holes.

I'd like to know more about George Washington Ash and how Charles Elmer Ash was related to my grandfather James Bert.

i know my grandfather is older than his brother leslie they live somewhere in indiana. my grandfather charles is about 80 years old. i found out there father or there grandfathers name is sylvester Ash. my mother can remember my grandmother or great grandmother was a powerful attorney her name was Freda Ash or Anne Ash. I can remember my dad telling me she was John F. Kennedy's lover when they were young. my grandmother took care of Larry Bird's horses at his stable in Indiana. this is all i really know of my family.

Survived by her mother Mrs. S.J. Vandigriff and her daughters Mrs.
Bess High, Mrs. Jane Adams and Mrs. Evelyn Cassity, her siblings John,
C.E. and Miss Maude Vandigriff, Mrs. R.F. Middleton and Mrs. Walter
Francis, her grandchildren Milton Morris, Jane Alvin Adams, Cecil,
Bobby and Jimmy Cassity;

Bessie Mae High, 98, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2004.

She was born April 13, 1905 to Chapman Jarrell and Jessie Mae Ash
Jarrell. A native of Texas, Bess owned and operated Bess High Florist
in the Houston area for over 50 years.

Mrs. High was preceded in death by her husband Buel O. High; son,
Milton Jarrell Morris; and sisters, Annie Jane Wheeler and Evelyn
Cassity.

Bess is survived by her four grandchildren, Gary Michael Morris,
Patrick Jarrell Morris, Timothy A. Morris, and Colleen Rose Dumas; and
great grandchildren, Nicole Lynn Dumas and Shane Waddell Morris.

Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, March 11, 2004 at
Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home where funeral services will be held
at 2:30 PM on Friday, March 12, 2004 in the Chapel of Angels.

Interment will follow in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.

I have since learned that Mary Ann was the daughter of Frances Hayden (c.1811-1883) and her first husband, John Dillon. Frances married William Miller in 1840 and they subsequently had six more children. Mary Ann appears to have adopted her step-father's surname.
